Graham Norton “as if there are trans armies coming over the hills”

like Graham Norton, this disappointed me in the Times today. I find it so patronising with regards those who have a stake in the debate on protecting sex based rights, and worryingly he is justifying the TRA aggression on the basis that this is how you get progress???

Shit all over women’s rights I think he means!

WhichOneOfUsIsCaving2 · 10/01/2021 09:47

Utter fuckwit.

WhichOneOfUsIsCaving2 · 10/01/2021 09:48

Not you Rita!

Him.

Sheleg · 10/01/2021 09:50

"an extremist vanguard" for the minority that's managed to access all of the major public and private institutions of this country and align itself with the establishment. Vive la revolution! 🤨

Biscuitsanddoombar · 10/01/2021 09:51

Oh look another gay man without the faintest empathy for women and such little self awareness they didn’t bother to go and find out any actual facts before pontificating🙄

ITS NOT ABOUT TRANS PEOPLE ITS ABOUT WOMENS RIGHTS!!

He’s had JKR on his show recently, I refuse to believe he’s not aware of the shit she’s had thrown at her

Winesalot · 10/01/2021 09:51

‘Will only get there with a vanguard’ ? Of aggressive people, allowing no debate, no studies? Mmmm.

That kind of protection doesn’t work and never has for building lasting results.

But it does allow the rights of women and children and for safeguarding to be stomped on.

gardenbird48 · 10/01/2021 09:53

Oh good grief Graham! I doubt he would be so supportive of ‘a bit of aggression’ if he and the gay community were on the receiving end!!

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 10/01/2021 09:53

Because he has nothing to lose.

GCAcademic · 10/01/2021 09:54

How many “oppressed” people have won their rights (though again, one must ask what rights trans people don’t have that the rest of us do) by using aggression and violence towards other oppressed groups and towards “opponents” who are physically weaker than them? Or by insisting that these groups give up their existing definitions and rights, that they fought for and are enshrined in law?

Norton is yet another in long line of gay men who has no empathy for or understanding of women.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 10/01/2021 09:56

Aw but he’s single? Must be happy that the dating pool is opening up (lest he be cancelled).

Babdoc · 10/01/2021 09:59

I suspect he has ignorantly assumed that the fight for trans rights is exactly equivalent to the fight for gay rights, which he would naturally support.
As a man, he has no skin in the game, and obviously zero grasp of the threat to women’s rights, safety and even language.
Idiot. I wish he would pause for even a moment’s thought to wonder why so many women are objecting to this, when we support gay rights?

Datun · 10/01/2021 09:59

Does he realise he needs to include 'men with breasts and vaginas' in his dating pool or be guilty of transphobia?

It's not confined to 'tiny' anything Graham. It's every sexual orientation and every definition of sex and all women's rights.

It's massive. Not 'tiny'.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/01/2021 10:00

I feel like trans people are a very vulnerable group and a tiny group, tiny. And it’s been conflated into this thing, as if there are trans armies coming over the hills.”

If he believes it's a tiny group that implies he really doesn't buy into the 'stonewall umbrella' - its stonewall who have been doing the conflating which had swelled the numbers.

WhoWants2Know · 10/01/2021 10:00

He's not wrong to say that trans people are a tiny minority of people.

But he's missing the fact that trans rights advocates have somehow gained a disproportionate amount of influence and are making changes that will affect a very large and vulnerable part of the population.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/01/2021 10:02

I think he's from Limerick, isn't he? He should have a look at what's going on in their women's prison.

Doyoumind · 10/01/2021 10:03

He's hugely ill-informed because he has no skin in the game. Nobody is scared of trans people ffs. He hasn't ever given a thought to the actual situation. It's pure ignorance and trivialisation.

BraveBananaBadge · 10/01/2021 10:04

“It’s been conflated into this thing,” it sure has Graham. But not by women. Never mind them though, ey. Disappointing take from someone usually a lot more savvy.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 10/01/2021 10:05

He is just preaching to the converted - is he a guest on the drag show or judging it? Would he date the competitor who was born a female, had a double mastectomy, and now does drag (as a female - so nipples coyly covered)?

WiseOwlRelaxing · 10/01/2021 10:07

So so true. V disappointed in him.

No, Bandon in north cork, which is only a main road drive from Limerick. Anyway, that's besides the point.

I wonder how his wonderfully articulate and broad minded mother would feel about having her single sex ward in hospital shared with male bodies.
I suspect the same lady might be very much of the "put it away and cop on" variety.

He's from Cork i thought. Although maybe his family moved.
nauticant · 10/01/2021 10:08

"an extremist vanguard"

He means people like Yaniv, Bradley, and CursedE. People whose mode of action is to make women feel unsafe, at least.

Looks like he's doing a Pullman. Being studiedly ignorant while covertly supporting the anti-women side.

WiseOwlRelaxing · 10/01/2021 10:08

I also wondered what his mother would make of it!
