Graham Norton “as if there are trans armies coming over the hills”

like Graham Norton, this disappointed me in the Times today. I find it so patronising with regards those who have a stake in the debate on protecting sex based rights, and worryingly he is justifying the TRA aggression on the basis that this is how you get progress???

And what rights of woman are at risk?

highame · 11/01/2021 09:34

Single sex spaces, the obliteration of the word woman and these are both major loses, loss of the right to equalities classification and on and on and on

MichelleofzeResistance · 11/01/2021 09:43

This explains some of the impact on women's sex based rights.

publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201719/cmselect/cmwomeq/1470/147010.htm

Essentially the right of female born people to have a word left in law (or anywhere else) that means them only, the right to be in spaces such as hospital wards, changing rooms, toilets, the right to set up groups specific to the needs of female people etc etc WITHOUT also meaning and including male people. For lesbian to be a mixed sex definition and all groups for lesbians mixed sex with expectation of homosexuality being exclusive and unacceptable towards male born people. For all spaces and groups to be called womens but actually being mixed sex. To adapt safeguarding so that male people can do things they usually would be prevented as a sex class from doing as a risk to safeguarding.

For females to not be able to request a same sex hcp. For there to be no refuges or rape crisis care that is not mixed sex. For pregnancy and maternity care and breast feeding to no longer be protected under sex based rights, because they're mixed sex experiences.

For females to be denied (by males, for the benefit of males) any space or language that is for them alone and referring to their specific experience as a Thing.

I can go on. How much evidence would be helpful?

RozWatching · 11/01/2021 09:47

@Biscuitsanddoombar

I still want to know what human rights trans people don’t have.....
Yes. In the UK. Anyone?

It's the pompous 'equality and progress' line that really boils my piss.
The puberty blockers scandal, rigid 'gender' boxes, men LARPing as lesbians, the hounding of academics...
Progress? What planet is he on?

StrippedFridge · 11/01/2021 10:44

@ThatIsNotMyUsername

And what rights of woman are at risk?
The right to speak the truth. Men are not women. Humans cannot change sex.

The right to reject faith-based controls. Gender identity is a belief system. Nobody should be compelled to pretend to believe it.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 11/01/2021 12:51

(I do know the rights at risk in case anyone thinks I don’t... don’t want anyone thinking I’m a blancmange brain)

Oreservoir · 11/01/2021 12:53

James Dreyfus is my twitter hero.

Yes, but would it be pink blancmange brain? Joke. Wink

What I hear as a subtext sometimes when certain people speak is something like this:

"Look ladies, I'm prepared to lie, most offensively if need be, about what all women are because it makes my brothers happy, and frankly I don't give a shit about any woman in comparison to that aim. You know it's a lie (about you as it happens) and I know it's a lie, obviously, but there's this longstanding social contract drawn up by men that we say what we want and you nod and smile to keep us happy. But your continued dissent right now, ladies, shows me up for a duplicitous fool and makes me look like an obviously lying dickhead, so fall in line right now and help me look like the hero I'm pretending to be."

tobee · 11/01/2021 23:17

@despairenting

I don't want to come across as assuming that all Irish people must know each other or whatever but if *@glinner* DOES know Graham Norton, maybe they could have a chat about the issues at stake here?

Well he was in Father Ted was he not?

yourhairiswinterfire · 11/01/2021 23:25

Well he was in Father Ted was he not?

He was, there was an ep on telly the other night and the main characters appeared to be stuck in a cave with Graham Norton singing. (I was flicking through and caught the end, haven't watched Father Ted before).

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 11/01/2021 23:25

He was indeed.

Jakey056 · 11/01/2021 23:29

Give him a google there and you will see he is from Cork. But tie him into the Limerick prison story sure, whatever that is.

ClaireP20 · 11/01/2021 23:31

@Winesalot

‘Will only get there with a vanguard’ ? Of aggressive people, allowing no debate, no studies? Mmmm.

That kind of protection doesn’t work and never has for building lasting results.

But it does allow the rights of women and children and for safeguarding to be stomped on.

Exactly...
HecatesCats · 11/01/2021 23:52

Barracker 👌

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/01/2021 00:03

But tie him into the Limerick prison story sure, whatever that is.

Perhaps you should find out what it is, because it's probably more important than pedantry. I acknowledged my error.

peanut2017 · 12/01/2021 21:51

Glinner makes his thoughts very clear on what he thinks of this situation with Graham https://www.tiktok.com/@user7132816715377/video/6916535759138835713?senderdevice=pc&senderrwebid=6916565047011722758&issfrom_webapp=v2

Jakey056 · 12/01/2021 23:33

You are fine thanks. No interest in Limerick or its prison. Best of luck.

despairenting · 12/01/2021 23:50

@tobee

So he was! It's been a while...

UppityPuppity · 13/01/2021 08:39

No interest in Limerick or its prison.

Neatly encapsulates the ‘debate’.

MichelleofzeResistance · 13/01/2021 09:54

Live your best life. xx

This vapid babble isn't going to age well, is it? Somewhere between groovy and have a nice day.

WhichOneOfUsIsCaving2 · 13/01/2021 10:26

True.

WhichOneOfUsIsCaving2 · 13/01/2021 10:27

I'd never use it in RL..

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/01/2021 10:37

Neatly encapsulates the ‘debate’.

Doesn't it.
