What is "Girl Mode"

A non question for actual women. What is "girl mode"?
To me it's a very youth orientated fetishy definition which feels a bit like My Little Pony.

I stopped calling myself a girl at the point I hit around 20 I think. I dont think of myself as a girl, I think of myself as a woman, especially once I had children.

I think it's odd to describe yourself as a girl if you are a middle aged man. I'm trying to imagine an older woman describing herself as being in "boy mode" and all I can think of is Jimmy Krankee.

I said non question by accident. Although it's a non question as women don't talk about girl modes.

I'm in girl mode. I have my period and I'm stuffing my face with chocolate (Ferrero Rocher) Could I be anymore girly?

But really it's all a load of bollocks isn't it. Woman (or girl) isn't a feeling and I wish men would stop appropriating it and then making themselves out to the most oppressed ever. 🙄

OppsUpsSide · 30/12/2020 11:47

A pile of bollocks

Nighthawker · 30/12/2020 11:49

It appears to be dying your hair rainbow colours and having a female anime character as your profile picture on social media.

despairenting · 30/12/2020 11:50

It's when men get all giggly and enjoy skirts that go spinny and make-up and glitter and such things. It has nothing to do with actual womanhood and they can very much enjoy those things without claiming to be female, if they so wish.

bellinisurge · 30/12/2020 11:50

I'm a couple of years younger than Izzard. My "girl mode" is the menopause. In fact, that's pretty much the norm for actual women in their fifties.

Winesalot · 30/12/2020 12:05

Is it when we go boobily bopping down the stairs to feel our breasts bounce saucily? Is it when we smile croqettishly into the camera for our professional head shots, maybe wearing an off the shoulder or plunging neckline? Or is it having a good old hormonal weepy session and celebrate it online?

I haven’t found my ‘girl mode’ switch that will allow me to strike that pose, mention feeling weepy and be taken seriously in my work. Not that I want to find that switch. There is some potential that it might narrow my vision to just me, myself and, selfie taking, I and I cannot imagine that being very fulfilling.

Don’t mind me, I am having a monster perimenopausal day and can’t leave the house as I need to be handy to the loo. Obviously, in full blown woman mode and that is not so aspirational.

highame · 30/12/2020 12:07

Jimmy Krankee 🤣😂🤣😂😂

partyatthepalace · 30/12/2020 12:08

It’s fetishising femaleness. It doesn’t exist.

A girl is just a description of a female child or very young women. It’s not a behaviour.

LastChanceBalloon · 30/12/2020 12:09

I would cringe to hear an adult female talk about ‘girl mode’, so you can imagine how I feel hearing grown men using the term. Nauseating.

SantasAnus · 30/12/2020 12:09

I think it's when you do the head tilt and put lippy on.

Then you go and have a pillow fight in your silky baby doll nighty.

DrizzleandDamp · 30/12/2020 12:12

What? Is this a thing, men saying “girl mode”?

If so I’d say it is what my 8 and 6 year d do when they occasionally smear lipstick across their face and wear sparkles. A grown man being excited by that is a bit fucked up.

HecatesCats · 30/12/2020 12:13

It's silly, frivolous and flighty. 'Submissive' and 'passive' as has been described by TW on here. It's not like the serious and important menz with all the difficult, heavy duty, significant stuff to deal with. When Eddie's in 'girl mode' he's not being as clever as male stand up comedian Eddie, Jan Morris touched upon this too with her idea of womanhood. Girl mode is an escape, a holiday from the burden of manhood which is a BIG DEAL. It's legitimising reverting to being a child.

heathspeedwell · 30/12/2020 12:14

If he were actually a woman he'd be pushing OAP mode if the pensions age hadn't been changed.

Outwithreason · 30/12/2020 12:16

That question is too hard for my girl brain, I'm afraid.

MadamBatty · 30/12/2020 12:22

Girl mode is whatever Eddie says it is & any of you who disagree are a BIGOT. Pout, flounce, pout.

I’m 52, menopausal, I haven’t been a girl in 34 years.

Whyistheteacold · 30/12/2020 12:26

I've never heard this as a phrase before. It is a bit concerning that a 58 year old sees themselves as a boy or girl 🙄 I don't think I had referred to myself as a girl since I was 19/20

I would really love for someone to just ask this question of Eddie Izzard - not in an unkind, 'bigoted' way, just to simply ask the question 'what do you mean by girl mode' and see what he says?

JupiterMoon · 30/12/2020 12:33

I think it involves talking to other ‘girls’ about serums and contouring or complimenting each other’s eyebrows or ‘switching off’ the news because it’s too depressing and lighting a scented candle and having a bubble bath. Or baking bread and/or cupcakes and flicking flour on your nose and blowing hair out your face in a comedic fashion with a head tilt at the end. And being ‘naughty’ and having a sneaky snaffle of a Cupcake behind the fridge door. And lots of Prosecco or fizzy wine while you gossip and giggle.

I’m surprised all you ‘girls’ on here don’t know this stuff what with you being ‘girls’Confused

JupiterMoon · 30/12/2020 12:34

Fuck I forgot about the glitter Shock

JupiterMoon · 30/12/2020 12:36

... and the pillow fights and the high heels and the lippy and the crying at soppy movies and being good at wrapping presents and writing Christmas cards.

MingeofDeath · 30/12/2020 12:37

Girl mode is having pillow fights when having a "girl's night in".

MingeofDeath · 30/12/2020 12:39

Ha ha, I've just seen the other pillow fight comments.

OldLang · 30/12/2020 12:39

Girl mode? Does not compute. My pink brain resists all critical and intelligent thought.
