"Frankie has had many controversies in his career, including making jokes about the Queen and people with disabilities. Frankie says that it’s every comedian’s job, to different degrees, to, “take things that people would normally find offensive and make them funny.”

"Frankie does not have positive words to say about Ricky Gervais as a stand-up comedian. “If you’re a stand-up watching him, you feel like, ‘oh, that’s someone doing a version of what we do,’” he says. “But really, it’s that I saw him doing his routine about trans people and I thought it was very lazy [in a 2018 Netflix special, Gervais did a routine about Caitlyn Jenner and trans identity]. I would like him to have the same respect for trans people as he seems to have for animals. I don’t think that’s a lot to ask.”

I've never been a fan of Ricky Gervais but it strikes as an extremely hypocritical criticism from Frankie Boyle!

DieHardIsAXmasMovie · 29/12/2020 21:43

Katie Price made a documentary about that joke. It's very much worth a watch.

In it, she asks Boyle several times to meet with Harvey so that Boyle can better understand Harvey's complex needs. Boyle doesn't even respond.

Coward.

queenofknives · 29/12/2020 22:11

He is an absolute dick. I find it insane that he is lauded and loved by people as some kind of woke hero now. Are people just fucking stupid?

Campervan69 · 29/12/2020 22:41

I think woke people are actually pretty judgemental and probably look down on Katie Price. So think she's fair game. There's a woke snobbery. Doubt she's a Guardian reader so wouldn't pass their purity test.

DieHardIsAXmasMovie · 29/12/2020 22:56

It's not about Katie Price though. She's an adult in the public eye, and she's able to verbally defend herself.

Harvey can't defend himself against the joke and never will be able to. He can't even understand the joke.

Boyle is a coward. He wouldn't even defend the joke to Katie's face.

littlbrowndog · 29/12/2020 22:58

True he never makes jokes about male Olympic winners

The man hates women successful women or women in the public eye

I don’t get why a man would hate women so much as to say such dreadful things about us

We are just women.

We don’t rape or murder men. Yet he still hates us 🤷‍♀️

littlbrowndog · 29/12/2020 22:59

Or says such hateful things about our children

FannyCann · 29/12/2020 23:37

@CousinKrispy It was me! So glad you enjoyed it. I need to seek out series one if it is available.
Happened to be late off work and caught it on the radio driving home. A brilliant mix of very funny tales and thoughtful reflection on life and luck and time. I shed a tear towards the end.

"I scroll backwards in time ... and there they all are ... they're laughing and joking ...but it hasn't happened yet ....there is a time code where they're all safe ...there's nothing but possibility.... that moment exists."

AverageContents · 29/12/2020 23:42

Frankie Boyle was on stage telling some pathetic 'joke' about disabled people, and shouted at a couple, asking why they weren't laughing. They said their child had Downs Syndrome, and Boyle replied with "Don't worry, they don't live long".

Give me Ricky Gervais ANY DAY, over Boyle.

I mean, if that is true that is beyond disgusting. Beyond.....

What on earth did the audience do?

ErrolTheDragon · 29/12/2020 23:45

Bloody hell, that's beneath contempt.

AverageContents · 29/12/2020 23:55

Unfortunately everyone laughed.

AverageContents · 29/12/2020 23:56

I wasn't there, but my friend was. She hadn't heard of him before, but went with a group. She was absolutely disgusted, btw.

FannyCann · 30/12/2020 00:01

I hope at least the couple walked out and demanded a refund at a minimum.

Mollyboom · 30/12/2020 00:08

Frankie Boyle hates women because he was an ugly nerdy boy at a comprehensive school where the girls all fancied sporty, tough guys. He now takes his revenge on those girls who scorned him by hating all women. He just has a very public forum to do it and because he spouts a bit of left wing tosh amongst it, the rest of the woke crowd love him. He makes my skin crawl.

littlbrowndog · 30/12/2020 00:35

I really don’t understand why men like Boyle hate us and our children so much

We just get on with our lives

It’s a bizarre thought that he wrote such things about Katie prices son and about women athletes

At what point do you think and sit down and think I will write this stuff about women and children

It’s really baffling

I mean to spend such time thinking such hateful things and then showing your horrible thoughts to the world

POP7777777 · 30/12/2020 00:37

littlbrowndog

Spot on.

rabbitwoman · 30/12/2020 01:03

I was listening to a true crime podcast some time ago and the FBI profiler said there were two kinds of stress - distress, but also the opposite which is eustress

It's where everything is going right. It seems everyone is on your side. It makes you feel invincible, like you could get away with...... Anything. You might act very recklessly, outrageously under the influence of eustress.

He was talking about the case of Stephen Avery from making a murderer - how he'd been released from prison and was getting a huge payout and might have thought everything was going his way - but I nodded sagely and thought, o. That makes a lot of sense.

HecatesCats · 30/12/2020 01:41

*We are just women.

Maybe it's because he hates himself and that's somehow women's fault.
It usually is.

uk.news.yahoo.com/frankie-boyle-slams-ricky-gervais-trans-joke-083005332.html

I haven't heard the original source, but that line makes me suspect that maybe Frankie Boyle wasn't being serious in his criticism of Gervais?

CousinKrispy · 30/12/2020 06:54

Thank you @FannyCann! Yes Sarah Kendall's stuff is amazing. I'm just on to the episode about the hamster who requires expensive vet treatment. "I could buy a suitcase full of hamsters for that! I could buy a suitcase MADE of hamsters!"

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 30/12/2020 07:02

For shock humour comedy - I prefer Anthony Jeselnik. He’s funny, and everyone is fair game.

AnyFucker · 30/12/2020 07:36

I don't think Boyle is saying what he thinks he is saying there Grin

ScreamingBeans · 30/12/2020 09:48

Did FB actually say that about RG self identifying as a stand up comedian?

I thought that was someone having a pop at him.

If he actually said it, it suggests very strongly that he knows fine well that self ID is a huge crock and he's only embraced it as a tactic.

Like so many other misogynists.

But we knew that, didn't we.

Datun · 30/12/2020 10:05

@StellaAndCrow

He's just horrific. From the article that allmywhat links:

'And, since it was 2012 – when little girls across the UK were watching and admiring sporting stars such as Rebecca Adlington, Jessica Ennis and Victoria Pendleton – Boyle’s first instinct was to cram these stellar female athletes back in the sex-fantasy box, and describe himself masturbating about them, raping or otherwise abusing them. Adlington was “a bit of a challenge-wank”; Ennis “I couldn’t go out with Jessica Ennis. Couldn’t go out with someone who wouldn’t feel it when I punched them in the stomach. I’d end up having to pay for an abortion.”; Pendleton: “Victoria Pendleton can lift twice her own body weight. Which is sexy, ’cause it means she still wouldn’t be able to throw me off.” '

'His response to a female heckler was: “I’ll abuse you so badly your gynaecologist will think you’ve been in a fing car crash,” and again: “I reckon your pussy has seen more action than fing Helmand.” '

Dear god. That's difficult to believe.
