"Frankie has had many controversies in his career, including making jokes about the Queen and people with disabilities. Frankie says that it’s every comedian’s job, to different degrees, to, “take things that people would normally find offensive and make them funny.”

"Frankie does not have positive words to say about Ricky Gervais as a stand-up comedian. “If you’re a stand-up watching him, you feel like, ‘oh, that’s someone doing a version of what we do,’” he says. “But really, it’s that I saw him doing his routine about trans people and I thought it was very lazy [in a 2018 Netflix special, Gervais did a routine about Caitlyn Jenner and trans identity]. I would like him to have the same respect for trans people as he seems to have for animals. I don’t think that’s a lot to ask.”

If you look at Gervais doing his stuff, he often seems to find delight in what he's doing. You don't that with Boyle.

Notgoingonholiday · 28/12/2020 11:08

Saw Frankie Boyle in stand up quite a few years ago. Stopped even pretending to find it funny when he did a joke about Baby P.

JohnMcClane · 28/12/2020 11:08

Jesus he's an embarrassment isn't he.
It all seems to boil down to "I'm not crass and unfunny, people just can't take a joke"
"You can't fire me, I quit" and since when did he become the arbiter of who is fair game and who is not?

All that time for self absorption but no self awareness.

OxfordwillsaveusbyFebruary · 28/12/2020 11:08

both are misogynist dicks.

ArabellaScott · 28/12/2020 11:15

@Ereshkigalangcleg

wonder if anyone could bear to trawl through all his old material he'd have some transgender 'jokes' in there somewhere?

You wonder correctly. Already been done.

Seriously? Is this another one that was horribly nasty and has since become a fervent TRA?

Weird, though, how it's only the trans issue that has brought out this sudden compassion.

As far as I know, Frankie has never expressed compassion for disabled people, or rape survivors, or any of the other groups of people he's said the most horrible things about (I can't even really see them as 'jokes', they were just shitty things to say blurted out under the cover of supposed humour).

Passmeabottlemrjones · 28/12/2020 11:20

His is a hypocritical, misogynistic bellend.

His jokes about Harvey Price were just unbelievable.

And now he thinks he has some sort of moral high ground?

What. A. Cunt.

Passmeabottlemrjones · 28/12/2020 11:21

Isn't he doing some kind of woke podcast thing or something with Owen Jones?

I haven’t read the article or seen the programme but does Louis Theroux ask him about the hypocrisy of him taking offence at Gervais’s lack of ‘respect’ for trans people when he’s treated disabled children the way he has in his routines?

Signalbox · 28/12/2020 11:27

Seems that Boyle may not have had much respect for trans people in 2013...

www.gaystarnews.com/article/comic-frankie-boyle-tweets-joke-about-aids-and-hmv150113/

Boyle also waded into the debate on columnist Suzanne Moore’s transphobic article about a Brazilian transsexual

"If anything, the emotional, irrational reaction of transsexuals to Suzanne Moore’s article shows once and for all that they are real women", he tweeted on Sunday.

Yes, this.

SophocIestheFox · 28/12/2020 11:29

Can’t abide the man. Berates other people for not being able to take a joke, but is famously thin skinned himself.

He can’t stand mumsnet (one of those bros who are dismissive/suspicious/terrified of women talking amongst ourselves) he’ll be thrilled to have a thread here Grin

LunaNorth · 28/12/2020 11:31

Foul person.

littlbrowndog · 28/12/2020 11:32

Yeah all the wokie men look the same

He is dreadful comedian. So not funny

rabbitwoman · 28/12/2020 11:32

Let's be honest....

Both Frankie and Ricky can be vile. I was disgusted by Frankie's tramadol nights where he depicted jesus as a topless, bearded woman on the cross, for instance, and Ricky's stand up show, Science, was dripping with vitriol for individuals who really were quite inoffensive if vacuous - he did at least ten minutes being disgusting to Amanda Holden. I mean, I am not a fan of hers, but she didn't deserve a whole section of nasty bitterness.....

And both can be hilarious. Pretend for a moment we live in a world without this transgender agenda and this is how we would describe most comedians - its the nature of comedy that the most offensive material divides audiences into those who find it very funny and those who don't....

It's this current atmosphere of the aggressive transgender rights agenda that is worrying me. Its sinister, how some have set themselves up as transgender advocates when it is entirely out of character. In a different political climate, Frankie would be climbing aboard with Ricky, you can bet.

Why is this issue so different? What is the power the transgender lobby have!?

xxyzz · 28/12/2020 11:55

Never found Frankie funny. He falls into the category of rubbish comedians who only ever punch down. Like Jimmy Carr. The type I always turn off.

Ricky is actually quite funny. Not always but often. Good observation.

PlantMam · 28/12/2020 12:09

Frankie has one joke that made me genuinely laugh, likening the bankers crashing the economy to an episode of Columbo.

I’ve not bothered with Ricky’s stand up, but his writing ability has moments of utter brilliance, most often in the characters he doesn’t play.
Afterlife is brilliant, I found Extras too cringey to watch at first, but once you get used to that, the stuff they get the celebs to do is proper inspired.

Passmeabottlemrjones · 28/12/2020 12:12

I wouldn't even put Boyle and Gervais in the same league.

For a start Frankie Boyle has never done anything that even comes close to how good The Office was!

HecatesCats · 28/12/2020 12:13

Frankie Boyle lets us know who the really vulnerable people in society are by going after them with his vitriolic jokes. In many cases they can't answer back, or won't be listened to or taken seriously if they do. His reverence for the trans orthodoxy betrays a fear of being targeted by people/organisations who would have the power to damage his career.

Agreed. It's Boyle's hypocrisy that is so breathtaking. The man who constantly makes cruel jokes at the expense of vulnerable people has the audacity to attack Gervais for making a joke at the expense of trans people. What kind of logic is it that says disabled people or murdered babies are fair game but trans people are off limits? One can only assume that it's fear of the trans mafia.

Mollyollydolly · 28/12/2020 12:56

Jealousy. Ricky has more talent in his little finger. He'll piss himself reading that and wipe away the tears with £50 notes.

ClaireP20 · 28/12/2020 13:01

Oh God no....I quite liked FB when he was offensive...I can't take the wokeness of it all now...

What. A. Cunt. I assume these are his pronouns Passmea Xmas Grin

HecatesCats · 28/12/2020 13:07

You'd have to have overdosed on Kool-aid to truly believe that a white middle class mtf transwoman is more vulnerable than a severely disabled child. He's full of shit.

StellaAndCrow · 28/12/2020 13:08

He's just horrific. From the article that allmywhat links:

'And, since it was 2012 – when little girls across the UK were watching and admiring sporting stars such as Rebecca Adlington, Jessica Ennis and Victoria Pendleton – Boyle’s first instinct was to cram these stellar female athletes back in the sex-fantasy box, and describe himself masturbating about them, raping or otherwise abusing them. Adlington was “a bit of a challenge-wank”; Ennis “I couldn’t go out with Jessica Ennis. Couldn’t go out with someone who wouldn’t feel it when I punched them in the stomach. I’d end up having to pay for an abortion.”; Pendleton: “Victoria Pendleton can lift twice her own body weight. Which is sexy, ’cause it means she still wouldn’t be able to throw me off.” '

'His response to a female heckler was: “I’ll abuse you so badly your gynaecologist will think you’ve been in a fing car crash,” and again: “I reckon your pussy has seen more action than fing Helmand.” '
