Frankie Boyle

"Frankie has had many controversies in his career, including making jokes about the Queen and people with disabilities. Frankie says that it’s every comedian’s job, to different degrees, to, “take things that people would normally find offensive and make them funny.”

"Frankie does not have positive words to say about Ricky Gervais as a stand-up comedian. “If you’re a stand-up watching him, you feel like, ‘oh, that’s someone doing a version of what we do,’” he says. “But really, it’s that I saw him doing his routine about trans people and I thought it was very lazy [in a 2018 Netflix special, Gervais did a routine about Caitlyn Jenner and trans identity]. I would like him to have the same respect for trans people as he seems to have for animals. I don’t think that’s a lot to ask.”

No excuse

HermioneWeasley · 28/12/2020 17:45

He’s a disgusting little man

JohnMcClane · 28/12/2020 17:47

His childhood sounds bleak.

Sick of losers making careers out of their mummy issues.

@Anyfucker I love your n nonsense straight talking, never change Smile

HecatesCats · 28/12/2020 17:49

He was using a disabled child to target his mother with venomous abuse, not to abuse the child or disability per se

I think he managed to do all of the above. Which is nice.

laudemio · 28/12/2020 17:52

Oh sorry I meant 'who he' as in he is a nobody, inconsequential. He is not funny, or even good looking so I don't know why he gets any airtime at all.

But thank you for the answers, they did make me smile 😃

Impatiens · 28/12/2020 17:54

Such a hypocrite, dishes it out but can't take it, pretends to want discussion but won't entertain any opposing view. He probably got all the mileage he can out of making sick jokes about the disabled (eg Harvey Price) so perhaps he's decided to jump on the trans bandwagon?

Either that or he's got some skin in the game but isn't honest enough to say so. Just another beardy bloke waving his male priviledge around.

ArabellaScott · 28/12/2020 17:57

'humour targeted at a child's expense, especially when the child is "as young as eight years old, and has a number of disabilities which are specifically focused on as the target of that intended humour".

The jokes appeared to "directly target and mock the mental and physical disabilities of a known eight-year-old child who had not himself chosen to be in the public eye", it said.

It added: "Frankie Boyle's comments appeared to derive humour by demeaning the physical and mental disabilities of a known eight-year-old child."'

I mean, I would quibble that it was in any way, shape or form humorous or funny to suggest that someone's child would try and rape them because of their disabilities.

I like dark humour, edgy humour, black humour, satire. Even the kind that makes you have a sharp intake of breath, sometimes. This is not it, this is just straightforward vicious abuse aimed at hurting a woman by saying the worst thing he possibly could.

Fully agree with this.

@HecatesCats

It's this current atmosphere of the aggressive transgender rights agenda that is worrying me. Its sinister, how some have set themselves up as transgender advocates when it is entirely out of character.

Frankie Boyle lets us know who the really vulnerable people in society are by going after them with his vitriolic jokes. In many cases they can't answer back, or won't be listened to or taken seriously if they do. His reverence for the trans orthodoxy betrays a fear of being targeted by people/organisations who would have the power to damage his career.

Spot on, both of you.

It is indeed "entirely out of character" for Boyle to be anyone's advocate. But if you look at the end result, his 'advocacy' amounts to attacking women. So maybe - entirely in character? I wonder if people were starting to see through him so he felt he had to mask his bile a bit?

And yes, he clearly prefers to 'punch down' onto the weaker whilst tugging his forelock to those who he fears can damage his career.

Didn't he withdraw from the circuit for a bit, ostensibly to write a book? I wonder if a timeline could be put together, showing whether his hiatus had any correspondence with the few trans jokes he'd made?

ArabellaScott · 28/12/2020 19:09

Well, let's be fair, he's obviously had a hard life and probably struggles with various issues.

As a rich white male, it must be hard to maintain the edginess required to back up his personal brand.

Yes, and he's not the only established misogynist for whom trans right is a brilliant fit.

knows which side his bread is buttered innit?

like the lamentable sarah pascoe. gotta embrace the religion to get the BBC deals these days

Yep.

I was horrified and livid at the time he made those jokes about Harvey Price, and about the 2012 female athletes. I am feeling those emotions all over again now, but this time he has the fucking nerve to slag off another comedian for not being 'kind' enough?

Fuck off Frankie.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 28/12/2020 19:30

The thing is, RG isn't even making jokes about trans people, he's just showing trans on screen. There's a scene in After Life where they go and interview a fat bearded middle aged man who's insisting he's a 13 year old girl... there's an eye roll between the characters iirc but the 'joke' is that this is actually happening, irl.

I always think RG must be OK because he's with Jane Fallon and I luffs her.

@BraveBananaBadge

Also, uses block lists on Twitter to avoid people (women) who have absolutely no interest in him in the first place
One of the things that bugs me the most about him is that he blathers on about right to offend etc, but he's so cowardly on Twitter that he's turned off replies to all his statuses. So you can't comment on them. Probably because he knows half the comments would be his fanboys posting edgy shit and the other half would be people reminding him of the terrible things he's said.
AnyFucker · 28/12/2020 21:09

Brave and boundary pushing people do not block right to reply

Pitiful

The BBC gets the comedians it deserves.
DieHardIsAXmasMovie · 28/12/2020 21:37

Boyle is best pals with Owen Jones these days.

They deserve each other (not a compliment)

In Gervais’s Netflix show he makes general jokes about two things in relation to trans issues. The first part is about he was chastised for making a joke about Caitlyn Jenner’s driving, about how he was accused of being transphobic as a result, and about how he should be allowed to make fun of a person who is trans just as much as anyone else (particularly when they killed someone with their car and everyone seems to have forgotten Hmm).

The second part is with RG doing a sketch imagining how surprised Jenner’s doctor would have been when a former decathlon athlete comes in looking to transition, and because it’s a made up scenario from the past, RG uses Jenner’s “dead name” with RG frequently saying “Bruce, because that’s what she was called then”. The whole sketch (IMO) is to point out the absurdity of not being able to discuss the past without present day woke censorship applying, and RG’s detractors followed the script perfectly.

That a fellow “comedian” like Boyle couldn’t see what the crux of the joke was, and the inherent problem in being censored in such a way shows the gulf in their intellects.

Oh yes, that reminds me, does anyone know how their Penguin evening together went? It was on the 16th of December. LOJ and Boyle don’t seem to have mentioned it much. Maybe the turnout wasn’t as expected...
queenofknives · 28/12/2020 22:03

No surprise him and OJ are besties. Both of them are vile misogynists.

Doyoumind · 28/12/2020 22:10

I'm not RG's greatest fan but I've always thought FB was an odious man. He has always reminded me of my ex with his penchant for offending people and his more recent hypocritical preaching also reminds me of my ex who is himself an odious man.

He's an absolute misogynist and this only emphasises it.

Glad to see twitter see him for what he is though. Pathetic coward.

donquixotedelamancha · 28/12/2020 22:21

Still, you get the speaking engagements with Owen Jones, Frankie, so in a way you're both winners.

Funnier than anything that Franky Boyle has ever written.
