...and also mentions women’s rights again.

The great irony is that with this moral blindness, the Left has allowed insidious practices to threaten equality. For example, it has failed to defend the single-sex spaces that were won by the hard work of women over generations. It has allowed the spread of antisemitism. It has allowed the appalling grooming of young girls for sex by elder men in towns such as Rotherham.

It is very clear that Liz Truss understands the concerns women have been talking about. I’d like to suspect she also understands the danger the government has exposed themselves to in relation to allowing such deep access for lobby groups. Her move to ignore the ‘back room deals’ struck by conversative committee members and these groups certainly highlights this. The crap dealt to her when she did made it rather clear who felt they had control of the policy making.

Is she on the right track to fix the issues? I guess time will tell. I am at least heartened that the portfolio is in her hands rather than someone who is completely in the pockets of the lobby groups.

bettybeans · 27/12/2020 04:53

She seems politely resilient to bullshit but I can't yet be confident that it is actually a fully considered strategy that addresses 'gender' and elevates data priority of sex as category, and not just the actions of a woman trying to dismiss sexism as a thing.

Thanks foe the link OP. Watching this with interest.

MoleSmokes · 27/12/2020 06:54

I agree with you Winesalot - also Labour (all the other parties) have given her an open goal and their only defence will be to witter on about inclusion or lie through their teeth (speaking as a life-long Labour member but thoroughly disgusted with their enthusiasm to destroy women’s hard-earned rights).

I know that there are honourable dissenters in all the other parties but when their official lines are represented by the likes of Lisa (put rapists in prison with women) Nandy, Layla (soul-seer of the sainted trans) Moran and Mhairi (youse women are all Jeremy Hunts) Black then it’s not just Daily Mail readers who will be voting Tory again.

The Government’s cronyism has been extreme and vile this year but Truss’s strong, uncompromising, common-sense stand on education is going to have wide appeal and will dwarf any annoyance with the likes of Dominic Cummins shenanigans.

Put that article alongside the holier-than-thou, elitist, diversity claptrap spouted by the other parties and their decadence and irrelevance to the majority is embarrassingly obvious.

How the hell did we get to a point where a Tory Government stuffed with Old Etonians is more in touch with the majority of people than the Labour Party?? Heaven help us if they capitulate to the wokerati who have weeviled their way into their ranks too.

Perfect synopsis - Can I nab that?

But who for the greens? (Non-men, vote for women sexual abuse victims not to be given the right to choose a female medical examiner - or we will discipline you).

AnyOldPrion · 27/12/2020 09:09

Only inne comments so far, and very supportive. One of them suggests she might be the next PM. Wonder if Murdoch would ever back her.

AnyOldPrion · 27/12/2020 09:09

Nine, not inne...

queenofknives · 27/12/2020 09:18

Yes! What a brilliant article and great defence of our rights and freedoms.

God, never thought I'd be so keen on a Tory, but she definitely seems to get what's at stake here and I really like her defence of diversity against the identity politics of the left. This gives me hope. Go on Liz!

Imnobody4 · 27/12/2020 09:20

I'm agreeing with every word and then she mentions council houses. She seems to have a real grasp on the issues and recognises it's a vote winner.
I don't see how the Labour party can turn their ship around now. Any concessions on the identity front will be met with screams of 'you're a Tory'.

highame · 27/12/2020 09:29

What a great strategy. Labour, superficial, misguided, trendy, disinterested, hypocritical. I assume whilst Labour will be looking for the chinks in Brexit, the Conservatives will be singing about the lunacy of the Left. Labour needs to take great care that this sort of mud doesn't stick, it is politically very, very damaging

queenofknives · 27/12/2020 09:49

Well this sort of 'mud' has been Labour's approach for some years now. They are misguided and trendy and hypocritical. Also misogynist. Also "woke" with all that implies. It would be great if this calling out forced Labour to re-examine their values, but I suspect they will respond by accusing Truss of being a terf and a bigot. They really have nothing to offer anymore.

Totally seem like people you'd call on to have sober debates about appropriate use of public funds, whose bid should win a contract, the ramifications of budget cuts to children's centres and so on.

queenofknives · 27/12/2020 10:55

@ILoveAllRainbowsx

Brilliant. A positive thread about the Conservative party.

They really need to start speaking to women and men who aren't on Mumsnet who don't know what the Left are doing to women's rights. I only know because I am on Mumsnet. I only found out about JKR on Mumnset. I had no idea what was going on because I am not on Twitter.

Wonder if Liz Truss is on MN? I know a few months ago when she cancelled the GRA reforms quite a few of us sent cards and letters in support. I hope she did come on here to the FWR board! And I agree, the tories would do well to figure out the general mood of the people on this stuff. We don't want to lose our rights and freedoms to our new woke overlords.
IfNotNow12 · 27/12/2020 13:18

It's interesting, she's from a very left wing background. I agree with her on a lot of points, maybe not free schools, but definitely about Labours attitude towards inclusion and towards women. And the fucking pink bus! She's good at her job too, and God knows this government could do with a bit of competence.

Lowhum · 27/12/2020 13:21

Based on my knowledge of a local Conservative candidate, some of them are very aware of identity politics and how toxic it is becoming.
Based on my knowledge of our local Labour MP, they are not interested in preserving spaces for young girls in secondary schools and have dismissed any concerns regarding this.

"I've not said this publicly before but I am solo-polyamorous. Meaning I want to maintain independence in my personal life, but I can form multiple intimate relationships."

To me that reads as ' I'll shag anyone that consents but don't expect me to acknowledge you in public or even to remember your name. '

Which is even worse than my reflex on seeing the word 'solo' to immediately think 'wank'.

MichelleofzeResistance · 27/12/2020 14:22

Labour, superficial, misguided, trendy, disinterested, hypocritical.

There's honestly no arguing with any of that.

I would add homophobic, misogynist and absolutely convinced of their own superiority. Evidence available on a daily basis.

Kaliorphic · 27/12/2020 14:36

That's fabulous. What a good article.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 27/12/2020 15:21

I said in discussion the other day, if aparty for the working class was to be set up now, it would be:
anti-woke, patriotic and would promote an individuals ability to work hard to achieve the life they want for thier family.

So...basically the Tory party!
And Liz Truss gets this.

More of the 'working class' are now trades people rather than factory workers. They may drive a white van, and go to the pub after work, but they probably work 10 hour days, 6 days a week, earn more than the teacher they live next door to, care as much about thier kids education as that teacher, and are happy to say biological sex is a real thing.

The Labour party now represent a professional middle class elite, with thier own woke doctrine, and the working class know it, and told it where to go in the last election.
