Hecates
Labour are indeed down a very stupid rabbit hole

but Liz Truss has long been an advocate for bringing UK employment rights more in line with the USA

  • getting rid of maternity pay
  • getting rid of sick pay
  • all that nasty red tape stuff that holds us back

The Tory party are anti trans because they know it pisses off the woke folks not because they support the rights of women
which leaves a LOT of us politically homeless at the moment

@ArabellaScott

She's just done one today mentioning misogyny, Tomatoes.

[waving] we see you, dear.

Ha ha. If you read the article Charlotte Nichols links to, it states:

POLICE and crime commissioner David Keane is calling on the government to protect women and older people within hate crime law.

Existing hate crime laws do not recognise gender or age as a protected characteristic but the commissioner says there is clear evidence for misogyny and elder abuse to be recognised in law.
He has responded to the Law Commission’s hate crime consultation to set out his views.

He said: “We know that gender discrimination disproportionately affects women. There is evidence of this in the workplace, online and in everyday life. There is also evidence of misogyny leading to other serious crimes such as stalking or harassment.

“I believe that if misogyny was set out in law as a hate crime, this would give women the confidence and faith in reporting harassment or any other behaviour that leaves them feeling intimidated, uncomfortable or threatened."

Hmm

NOTE: Gender, not sex. 'Women' are not defined. I think we all know exactly what kind of 'women' David and Charlotte would want to protect, and who they would use misogyny hate crime legislation to attack.

If you think about it the word 'misogyny ' is really transphobic, as is gynaecologist. Reducing women to their gynae and excluding all the poor lady penii. You'd better come up with new words, Charlotte!

Liz Truss has just been on Times Radio talking to Michael Portillo about her equalities agenda. I don't think she said anything particularly new but I was struck by the number of times she mentioned 'sex' and, as far as I heard, her non-use of 'gender' when discussing the reasons why individuals may or may not have equal opportunities.

That's good to hear. Important distinction and she definitely seems to get it

OhHolyJesus · 08/01/2021 20:31

Ooh thanks jhuizinga I forgot I had that app - will have a listen. Good old Liz, just need the rest of Govt to learn the difference but if you're going to start somewhere the women and equalities office is best.

OhHolyJesus · 09/01/2021 12:20

Just listened - very reassuring responses.

Portilo joked that she should check back in six months to see if unconscious biased training had been removed from the civil service and she said she would.

She also said she was interested in equality of process not equality of outcome and about the competitive nature of 'equality'.

It was good.
