Has announced new pronouns.

Again, apologies if this is being discussed already.

"They're not women's clothes, they're my clothes" seems to have been lost in the mists of time.

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria

Has Eddie ever had a partner? I'm not aware of anyone hovering around the wings making supportive noises?

I have always had a soft spot for Eddie. It has hardened since Eddie started sounding like any middle aged entitled man.

I watched a documentary about EI a few years ago. Think it was about the first marathon runs. It covered early childhood, loss of mum etc.

There was an interview with an ex-girlfriend who described him as something like “difficult to love”. Sorry, can’t remember the exact words but she seemed like she’d had a very hard time being in a relationship with him.

(Started editing out he/him from first paragraph. It makes my words sound unnatural. Can’t be arsed doing the second -
soz)

Eddie Izzard is 58 years old. Any 58 year old woman wearing what he is wearing in this picture is roundly ridiculed and slagged off (there are plenty of memes featuring Shirley from Eastenders for example) but Izzard is seen as 'stunning and brave'.

Also, Eddie's hair is definitely verging on what is now commonly referred to as a 'speak to the manager haircut'. Can you imagine anyone making jokes about that, or referring to him as a 'Karen'? No, that shit is only reserved for actual women, because like always, it's obvious that, for all the rushing to change Wikipedia and chastise others for using the wrong pronoun, in reality everyone does know who the women really are.

By the way, I am not posting this picture to mock Eddie Izzard before anyone reports, he can wear what the hell he likes - I am just using it to illustrate double standards.

@Datun

This is the expansion of language, the invention of new ways of talking about things that were always there but which there were no words for.

You're kidding right? There's always been words for this. Eddie themself has been a self described transvestite for decades.

The concept you're describing is appropriation. The word woman (or girl, as late middle aged Eddie prefers) is already taken. It has a meaning. No other meaning is offered.

Therefore:

appropriate verb

take (something) for one's own use, typically without the owner's permission.

See? The reason you think are 'no words' for what you describe is because any definition you attempt makes no sense. Humans can't change sex. A woman is an adult human female. A girl is a juvenile human female.

You have ' no words', not us. We have loads.

The phrase “girl mode” is him betraying his misogyny and is as sexist as they come. We see you.

BrassicaRabbit · 21/12/2020 11:19

So this thread is being monitored. It is really important for some person to link the actions of Eddie Izzard to the concept of being trans. Despite the fact, in Eddie's own words, Eddie has utter contempt for the vulnerability and boundaries of teenage girls.

This doesn't exactly win hearts and minds does it?

Re having to go through one's posts to alter pronouns, should we be asking for recompense for all the unpaid emotional and digital labour?

waterlego · 21/12/2020 11:28

It will be very interesting if Eddie wants to get on an AWS. E hasn’t claimed that E is a woman, as far as I know. Just that E is in ‘girl mode’ from now on. I wonder if criteria for getting onto an AWS would be expand from ‘anyone who says they are a woman’ to ‘anyone who is in girl-mode’. 🤔

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 21/12/2020 11:30

They marched into the ladies loo though and shows out some teenage girls... so they think they can access women’s spades therefore must claim some degree of womanhood (or girlhood)?

Sexnotgender · 21/12/2020 11:39

More deletions😂 so funny.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 21/12/2020 11:48

Couple of mistakes there.,

TheChampagneGalop · 21/12/2020 11:49

Can us normal ladies also be in girl mode and have it be respected? I'm tired and I don't want to have so many adult responsibilites around Christmas, cooking and cleaning.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 21/12/2020 11:50

I'd like to be in boy mode and play Minecraft all holiday.

pinbinpin · 21/12/2020 11:51

yes and I'd quite like to be able to walk through an airport dressed like that without people calling me "mutton dressed as lamb" and commenting on all my lines and baggy bits.

iguanadonna · 21/12/2020 11:51

Such a tedious dick-haver.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/12/2020 11:52

Can I be in boy mode and eat vast amounts of food and grow several inches up not out?

bellinisurge · 21/12/2020 11:54

What the actual fuck is girl mode?
Like me, Izzard is fifty odd. I'm in woman mode . Even when I am sawing logs, fixing broken fittings and digging in the garden. Because I'm a woman. I haven't been in girl mode since I was under 18. Try the fucking menopause for being a woman in their fifties.
If anyone talked about me being in girl mode , I'd think they were a creep.

merrymouse · 21/12/2020 11:54

I’m gender fluid. I just want to be based in girl mode from now on

I don't understand why trans people don't find this offensive too.

Does he reserve his right to be gender fluid and switch back to 'cis gender male mode' if the right acting part is on offer?

'Gender fluid' is not compatible with 'TWAW'.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 21/12/2020 11:54

I just don’t wanna deletion... strange days indeed.

From my own observation, ‘boy mode’ would be - schlep around in sports clothes, smell like a barn and leave a trail of destruction... man mode, of course, is quite different.

tiktok · 21/12/2020 11:59

I think it’s unlikely that Eddie Izzard has a future in the Labour Party. Media appearances on newsnight and Question Time have revealed a rather lightweight political thinker without the confidence, deftness and charm that can sometimes hide these shortcomings.

More than that, though, I don’t think Eddie has a base of support - not a member or ally of Momentum/the Corbynistas, no evidence of centrist support or support from former Blairites, there’s no union backing, no local party gang rooting for a nomination for a seat - and even if there is grassroots support from the ordinary members, this is not enough to get a serious foothold.

This is a relief. There are certainly TRAs who are aiming to be elected as Labour MPs but so far there’s no one emerged who looks anywhere near skilled or schmoozy enough to get a decent safe seat. Heather Peto - who I have seen in debate - is poor, and has a dodgy back story. I think we have probably seen the last of Lily Madigan’s political career. There are a couple of others who could probably manage to gain a seat on a council, but I don’t see anyone who’s showing talent.

No....Eddie Izzard is going to have to make a living as a performer, I think.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 21/12/2020 12:01

That Thanks

I've said he, he says he on his website.

Why should we walk on eggshells?

BrassicaRabbit · 21/12/2020 12:01

I'm mostly happy to have left girl mode behind. But is it possible for me to appropriate the ability to have several drinks and bounce up unscathed the following morning? Either sex is fine.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/12/2020 12:01

The incident with the girls in the loos was occasioned by Eddie's first foray into public cross-dressing, and wanting to get back into a shared house in male clothes. No thought for anyone else.... the lack of awareness in this account is stunning.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 21/12/2020 12:01

I want to be in man mode and earn more.

pinbinpin · 21/12/2020 12:03

yes I want to be in middle-aged man mode because then I'd be the CEO or CFO earning 4x more

TheChampagneGalop · 21/12/2020 12:04

Just imagine to effect on Christmas celebrations if all mums decided they wanted to spend it in girl, boy or man mode instead.

pinbinpin · 21/12/2020 12:05

And you're right, boy-mode is looking kind of fun at the moment. Everyone in boy-mode in this house is sleeping or playing video games. It's only man-made working and woman-mode spending their AL wrapping presents and baking for the boy-modes.
