Has announced new pronouns.

Again, apologies if this is being discussed already.

"They're not women's clothes, they're my clothes" seems to have been lost in the mists of time.

So Eddie went to America and bought into this liberal identity shit - which is driven by a cosmetic surgery culture and Hollywood ideals of beauty - all of which is incredibly sexist. And he decided that everyone else should be sold this shit or be sold down river because he quite liked it. Then he came out with this 'scientific' hocus pocus which is dressed up as progressive. A bit like eugenics was in its day. And he uses this as a stick to beat anyone who goes, "hang on a second, this only really suits the ruling groups and kind of shits on those at the bottom of the social power scale" and blames teenage girls for intimating him in a women's toliet for looking at him the wrong way or something.

Yes. I get it all just fine.

He can bunce along all he likes but hes rather like the Greek studying sculpture at Saint Martin's College.

We all start as human units. We all start as girls. In the foetus. Then some of us get coded boys.

Does someone want to tell EI about his Daddy’s little Y sperm which started him as a boy?

He obviously knew that, but decided to take the fact its xx and xy, not xx and yy as some profound meaning of spectrumyness.

What he said abt biology in that transcript was bollocks. Male & female brain wiring (from an interview) is bollocks, and girl mode is dependent on sexism (though he isn't claiming it makes him a girl), but I found some of the other stuff about how he sees how it's changed over time from action tv etc to what he's saying now interesting. He obviously talks in the same stream of consciousness style that his standup was in.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/01/2021 15:16

Is he quite well?

I mean, I have rambled on in my time - but, he has said far more which is unhinged and far less that is funny or insightful since he took his raspberry beret on Question Time.

MurunB · 18/01/2021 19:11

“At the help group I had been talking to a young lesbian woman I liked and I had thought, Hey, can I have a relationship with a lesbian woman? Does that work?”

Of course you can Eddie. Why not try a 59 year old lesbian woman with a penis? No?

RozWatching · 18/01/2021 20:26

A heterosexual man wants to have sex with lesbians. How original. And he fancies himself some sort of messiah for "making humanity great again"? How about you start with yourself Eddie.

SAJmum · 18/01/2021 20:37

if someone identified as a trans-vegan-unicorn would they benefit from compassionate acceptance?
Maybe all this identity stuff is narcissistic indulgence?

TheBuffster · 18/01/2021 22:46

Hey, leave vegans out of it.
The vegan ideology is fairly straightforward and doesn't require the denial of reality.
I'm not too keen on unicorns though so knock yourself out.

Horny showoffs.

A late middle-aged man wants to have sex with young lesbians. Hmm Envy

Just read this article in pink news

https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2021/01/18/eddie-izzard-marathon-challenge-pronouns-change-genderfluid-trans-charity-marathon-matt-lucas/?fbclid=IwAR2eiRcpDJA6gFD979gA3Q7r7kDMYBx64RUP3BmUkiUN-Vl6omRonGGhU7I

It's got these comments from Matt Lucas

I’m gay, and sometimes there’s an assumption that gay people will just get it more quickly, but I haven’t found that necessarily. Gender fluidity is still a big learning curve.

And also, some people can’t tell the difference between gender and sexuality, and they get confused, but they are actually different things.

Just thought those comments were interesting because Stonewall seem to ignore the obvious conflict between same sex attraction and the belief a person can change sex.

HecatesCats · 19/01/2021 00:26

Times Radio host Matt Chorley went out of his way to refer to Eddie as she and her repeatedly today (interesting that the radio station veers off from the newspaper's position on this regularly). Turns out a lot of people don't believe that this privileged white male comedian is female, despite being told so by a Times journalist! Turns out repetition only gets you so far...

CrossPurposes · 19/01/2021 01:03

To be fair to Eddie he was 23 when he thought he might have a relationship with a lesbian because that's a quotation from his memoir. Obviously whether a lesbian would want to have a relationship with a man in a dress (as Eddie was then) wasn't important.

Eddie was on MC last week too Hmm

A bit of a thing?

HecatesCats · 19/01/2021 08:06

Matt Chorley thinks women's concerns are a fuss over nothing. It doesn't cost Matt anything to reinforce claims that Eddie is actually a woman. Might even piss a few women off in the process, haha, silly women. Bunch of bigots for pointing out material reality, they and their daughters should make room for Eddie in the changing room. It's just Eddie!

OldFolksTalkinBoutBackinMyDay2 · 19/01/2021 08:41

Maybe all this identity stuff is narcissistic indulgence?

I think you could be onto something there.

HecatesCats · 19/01/2021 08:52
Matt's one more day of language policing away from peaking GrinGrinGrin
jhuizinga · 19/01/2021 09:27

I switched Matt Chorley off yesterday (very unusually) as I had no interest in listening to EI. DP listened, however, and later said how disappointed he was in MC for referring to EI as 'she' because it was utterly ridiculous to treat someone everyone knows is male as if they weren't. I actually think it did more to make him realise what is happening than any of my GC rants.

QueenoftheAir · 19/01/2021 09:28

I am itching to Tweet at him that his "mistakes' actually demonstrate just how we - as sexually dimorphic mammals - instinctively identify sex. As he does.

"Freudian slips" eh? Grin

Or ask him - if he's heterosexual - whether he'd consider Eddie Izzard as a romantic and/or sexual partner.

But I won't - they go low, we stay high.

highame · 19/01/2021 09:49

I have a bit of a dilema here. Are some of the comments transphobic because I'm not into that. Eddie used to be one of my very favourtie (and my families) comediens. I haven't gone off him because he's trans, I've gone off him because he just isn't so funny anymore and hasn't been for some time.

El has every right to be trans, and his lesbian stuff was said years ago and was a joke. Do we lose our sense of humour in all of this. I bloody hope not, but it does seem that in the middle of ideological battles, the first thing to go is humour.

We (as a family) all still love Eddie/El. He is, a lovely person and if she doesn't care what pronouns I use, then he gets a thumbs up from me. If all in the TRA camp could get a few tips from El, we'd be in a good place.

Matt Chorley mis gendered El and El didn't see what the problem was. Matt Chorley's comment to that was 'if only social media felt the same' on that, I'm with Matt

PopperUppleton · 19/01/2021 10:06

I also loved EI's humour and I still have a dvd (remember those?) which I watch and laugh out loud at, and I don't have any problem with his mode of dress, nail polish or the fact he wears lipstick, but HE IS NOT A WOMAN. No matter what he says, thinks, wishes, he is a middle aged bloke, was a younger bloke, was a boy and will be an older bloke, then an elderly bloke. Live your best life, Eddie. Continue to enjoy your total clothing rights. Have sex with whoever consents to it. But don't take rights away from women, it's not very kind now, is it?

I wonder if Eddie might demonstrate to the world exactly what it means to be a transwoman. Go Eddie! But stay out of female-only spaces, they're not for you. You have your own stuff, I'd support you with a campaign for third spaces.

highame · 19/01/2021 10:27

Grin got loads of them and saw him live a couple of times.

Cannot disagree with anything you've said

BuntingEllacott · 19/01/2021 10:30

highame, in the video he did very recently talking about his project to make the world better, he talked a bit about himself and his identity, and he did indeed refer to himself as a lesbian. It was not a joke, not even an unfunny one, it was in a neutral description of himself.

Personally, I liked some of his ideas beyond that, in terms of having conversations, but it's by no means original thought, he doesn't especially sell it beyond being waffly and diffident, and he is definitely claiming to be a lesbian.

Note for mods: he said he doesn't mind about pronouns, so I am using sex correct ones because the whole point of my post is that a he is male and claiming to be a lesbian.

HecatesCats · 19/01/2021 10:36

I'm afraid I'm really cross with Eddie for appropriation. I have always been a huge fan. I don't condone transphobic comments but you can't compel people to believe things that aren't true or to lie.

TyroTerf · 19/01/2021 10:36

I haven't gone off him because he's trans

Me neither. I've gone off him because he's publicly demonstrating he's a misogynist. And because part of the reason I liked him was the whole 'man in a dress, masculinity not threatened by lipstick' thing - as he is apparently no longer doing that, what's to like? If he's just another 'woman' in sparkly dresses and killer heels, it's just boring.
