Has announced new pronouns.

Again, apologies if this is being discussed already.

"They're not women's clothes, they're my clothes" seems to have been lost in the mists of time.

Well the yoga pants were appropriately lumpy so dunno.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 01/01/2021 11:07

So... sighs... not... for the love of god.. girl mode then?

Beamur · 01/01/2021 11:08

Looking at some recent images it strikes me that EI is quite good looking in boy mode, but the girl mode default is text book stereotype. EI really suits short hair, it's actually much more flattering. Long hair not so much.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 01/01/2021 11:09

I’d be pretty - scared/shocked/confused if I ended up in a situation where I was getting intimate...

Winesalot · 01/01/2021 11:12

So, maximises the publicity with hair extensions and breasts. Good PR move. I most certainly would not be running marathons daily with such long hair. Mine would be a mass of knots by the end of each day I’d have to cut much shorter.

Beamur · 01/01/2021 11:13

2020inhouse
Watched a bit of the 80's music programme in TV last night. All of the new wave/new romantic male singers were plastered in make up. Messing with gender presentation was very common. Annie Lennox came on looking absolutely stunning but with cropped hair and my DD asked if she was female (or not). Funny (actually not funny) how things have changed.

EckhartLolly · 01/01/2021 11:17

@PickleC

Really - wear what you like, stick on some lippie but 'woman' isn't just some sort of costume. The word 'woman' is already taken and has biological and legal meanings that shouldn't be diluted because there are real world consequences.
Perfectly put
SunsetBeetch · 01/01/2021 11:23

Oh ffs Louis!

I do think anyone who works for the BBC must have to undergo some TRA indoctrination training.

Notts2021 · 01/01/2021 11:31

I've not heard Louis Theroux regret any of his other questions, but he regrets not getting the language correct 12 years ago. Critical thinking bypass? 1984 more like.

LongDistanceClaret · 01/01/2021 11:44

What I see is someone who is absolutely craving attention.

RozWatching · 01/01/2021 11:47

They were discussing Pete Burns and how despite all the cosmetic work he had had done plus lipstick wearing etc he still identified as a male

And why wouldn't he?
They are the problem, these men who think that any male who deviates from the norm might want to be a woman instead. See also Juno Dawson's comment about gay men.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 01/01/2021 11:54

My 17 year old needed a trip to A+E last week (she's fine).

She has cropped hair and wears androgynous clothes - not as a political statement or identity guff, but because she likes it. She looks very like I and all my pals did in the late 80s - oversized shirt and leggings with boots.

Nurse said "right, young man" to her without blinking. DD didn't react, but, when asked "who's at home with you?" she described our family and said "so, I'm the only girl" Nurse visibly relaxed DD wasn't bothered at all - but, it did occur to me that the signals of what sex you are and how you fit in society are now totally fucked and that makes it very difficult for HCPs in an A+E department.

I do hope that EI's new breasts don't get chaffed from all the running. Good sports bras are hard to find.

Jintyfer · 01/01/2021 11:58

Oh dear. Charlie is for it.

When did Eddie's boobs appear? Has he had feminisation surgery to his face too?

DeaconBoo · 01/01/2021 12:21

Just mindful of keeping on-topic - I don't think it's particularly constructive to talk about whether Eddie's appearance looks good/aesthetically pleasing or not, or whether Eddie's choices are "flattering" (and will potentially get the thread derailed into "policing appearance" "debate" as happens frequently here). I've never liked discussion of how nice or feminine anyone looks as we'll all fall foul somewhere.

Obviously it's still relevant to compare people that have said that their clothing choices are part of their gender identity and people that feel how they dress has no bearing on their own gender.

Eddie's always been interesting in the past in this respect and opens a lot of questions re gendered clothing. Just would feel more comfortable to avoid making judgments on who looks good/ bad - most of us have limited control over this for ourselves!

Helmetbymidnight · 01/01/2021 12:23

I dont think anyone believes Eddie really is a woman though Pam

I think they do.

I think they genuinely believe a woman is a way of thinking. And when a man says he's a woman he is a woman. That's what I'm hearing more and more.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 01/01/2021 12:24

It’s just the mantra. If they have it one minutes thought they would realise that this just doesn’t mean that.

Helmetbymidnight · 01/01/2021 12:24

I'm trying to think if any late 50's women have declared themselves a boy.

Anyone up for it?!

How seriously would we be taken, dyou think?

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 01/01/2021 12:26

What would that entail?

Leaving my pants on the floor
Playing hours of computer games
Smelling like a donkey
Going selectively deaf
Holding up in my bedroom only emerging for food (that someone else cooks)

Helmetbymidnight · 01/01/2021 12:27

It’s just the mantra. If they have it one minutes thought they would realise that this just doesn’t mean that.

I dunno. People I've been chatting with seem to think:
a. sex is not binary.
b. What you have in your pants doesn't tell you if you're a woman or not.
c. Are you planning to do genital checks? Ha ha ha.
d. Eddie is a woman if he wants to be.

Defaultname · 01/01/2021 12:28

Just shaving every day would be easier, surely?
ThatIsNotMyUsername · 01/01/2021 12:28

A) hows that then?
B) how’s that then?
C) how’s that then?

(Tis my mantra - Also ‘prove it’)

Helmetbymidnight · 01/01/2021 12:29

TBF, most of these things, I've been practising for some time...

I think it would mean we get into the most oppressed ever group in history which would be very exciting.

Notts2021 · 01/01/2021 12:29

I think they genuinely believe a woman is a way of thinking

I know people say this. But it was never the case when women wanted to vote, wanted to get degrees at universities, or want to inherit male titles. No woman can identify into male privilege.

And no men who are only sexually attracted to women believe these men are women.

So no, no-one believes Eddie Izzard is a woman, even if they pretend they do.

Helmetbymidnight · 01/01/2021 12:34

So no, no-one believes Eddie Izzard is a woman, even if they pretend they do

I genuinely don't know.

Isn't it possible that if you're a person without any knowledge of women's history, or women's rights, then all this talk about privilege and oppression would go over your head?

On the sexual attraction thing, they say 'I'm attracted to an individual not genitals.' So, no, they wouldn't fancy Eddie, but that's because Eddie isn't their type not that Eddie isn't a woman.

They were also all saying things like 'I'd rather share bathrooms, prisons, refuges, with a transwoman than a terf.'

Helmetbymidnight · 01/01/2021 12:36

I've heard others say that being a woman is like 'love' - you can't put it into words but you know it when you know it.

I know!
