Eddie Izzard...

Has announced new pronouns.

Again, apologies if this is being discussed already.

"They're not women's clothes, they're my clothes" seems to have been lost in the mists of time.

@Passmeabottlemrjones

Surely even the likes of Stella Creasey and maybe even Lisa Nandy would be a bit Hmm if Eddie won some kind of Labour political office via an AWS.

Not Angela Rayner though - she would be cheering Eddie on I'm sure! What ever happened to her 'rising star' Lily Madigan?

I don't see what reason they would have to object.

Lisa Nandy would put a rapist in a women's prison if he declared himself a 'girl', and Stella Creasy is collaborating with Stonewall on misogyny Hmm.
The all-women shortlists are open to self-identifying women. Why wouldn't Eddie qualify?

Winesalot · 22/12/2020 12:54

@Username642243

Has anyone mentioned the marathon running yet?
Yes, but it needs repeating.

What 58 yr old 'girl' could do this feat? without being an olympic level or elite level marathoner to start with?

The males who wish to compete with women, all forget this. There are a few 40+ males competing as women when the reality is, no woman of that age could compete and win. Unless it might be an early 40's marathon runner with an already long medal list. It is clearly nonsensical.

Username642243 · 22/12/2020 13:05

I remember Victoria Coren Mitchell describing how panel show bookers called her and when she said she was busy but she could do the following week they said "it's OK, we've got one for that week". Is it OK for Eddie Izzard to fill that quota now.

This is so unfair it makes me want to scream.

PotholeParadies · 22/12/2020 13:16

I think our senior Labour MPs would find Eddie harder to accept on a AWS right now than they would others. We've all known Eddie officially as a cross-dressing man for decades. Seeing Eddie go from not-eligible for a AWS to eligible overnight stretches the mind.

It's quite different from being introduced to someone like Heather or Lily for the first time without having known them under their previous name.

Although that is still a stretch from being acceptable to the voting public when they're making their X in the secrecy of the ballot box. I don't think she's a Labour member but I think India Willoughby would have a chance of winning an election.

MichelleofzeResistance · 22/12/2020 13:36

Would fully support any TW standing for any public seat. Just not ones that were reserved for repairing the massive issue of most public seats being held by male people, and the massive unfairness and lack of representation this gives to the half of the UK population who are female. I never fully understood why it was such a massive issue for female people until all this gender stuff kicked off and it became apparent why male people should not be able to make laws about things they have no understanding of and don't care about because it doesn't affect them personally.

LGBT+ seat representation, yes absolutely. Let's do it. Create the seats, add to the diversity.

But resource-snatching from a marginalised group as a male because it helps your own personal agenda, and because a male you can use that power and leverage in a way that group can't? And thereby increase that group's subordination and reduce their representation a bit further? Not classy is it? To put it very politely.

Cagedbirdsinging · 22/12/2020 13:49

I don't think Eddie Izzard liked the portraits ; he critiqued them quite thoroughly but he looked disappointed - as though they did not match his own perception of his feminine look and persona .
He chose the sketchiest , most fluid and shape-shifty rendition in the end .

So that's why it's so obviously always a ratio of 1 woman to 3 men. Angry

Colour me shocked.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/12/2020 14:11

Are these portraits online anywhere - I found one but not the others, I'm vaguely curious to see them.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 22/12/2020 14:30

What, in lipstick & a little pink running skirt?

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 22/12/2020 14:31

Sorry, that was a reply to I was worried at the time that EI would die. I can't believe Eddie plans to do it again for January.

Flapjak · 22/12/2020 14:36

EI calls self a girl, that says it all really

PotholeParadies · 22/12/2020 14:36

The announcement that EI was going to repeat the performance was before the pronoun announcement. It uses male pronouns all the way through. I couldn't possibly say what kind of sportwear will be used.

I do honestly only wish EI well on the endeavour. I can't believe the human body is capable of such a thing.

NorthernNic · 22/12/2020 17:29

TinselAngel.....very astute of you

Doyoumind · 22/12/2020 17:38

In two weeks' time what percentage of the sycophantic wokesters will remember to refer to Eddie with female pronouns in conversation without pausing and correcting themselves? It will be tiny. It involves mental gymnastics to go against the way our brains have been programmed through our lives.

Lisz · 22/12/2020 17:57

Yeah it's the 'programming' part that freaks us out tbh. Jeez who'd stick up for brain programming?? What's wrong with a little mental gymnastics..

In any case i'm sure people will get the hang of it eventually, what with so many people coming out as trans lately.

The Critic shamelessly allows the f word.

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 22/12/2020 18:06

Jo Bartosch has written a very good article of why Eddie Izzard in heels is perceived as more progressive than us boring old vulva-owners in our flat shoes.

TheChampagneGalop · 22/12/2020 18:08

So good both of us had to post it at the same time Grin

MoltenLasagne · 22/12/2020 19:00

Has anyone posted Brendan O'Neill's article from The Spectator yet?

Pulls no punches and highlights how offensive the "lesbian" claim in particular is.

crossparsley · 22/12/2020 19:01

In all EI’s ‘boy-mode’ posed photographs (of which there are many, given the acting career), is the pose like a Chippendale/beefcake model, or a ‘boy’ who just wants what you want to do to him (boy-mode context so this should be acceptable)? I doubt it. But ‘girl-mode’ is sexxxxaaaay, crotchy, underwear-y. Cos ‘girls’ are sexy, inniit? Creeping in plain sight.

yourhairiswinterfire · 22/12/2020 19:12

@CatsCantCatchCriminals2

Thank you yourhairiswinterfire. (Great name by the way.)

(Ovarit is a great name for a website but I meant your name.)

(Too many brackets now..)

Haha, thank you 😊
Beamur · 22/12/2020 19:14

That article is spot on. How is it not appropriation?

carefulvulvadriver · 22/12/2020 19:33

I actually really hope EI goes for an AWSL seat. They are probs the most well known trans woman in the uk and it will be the perfect way to draw attention to the ridiculousness of it. Bring it on

That is a really good article. It's a pity that O'Neill is so relentlessly contrarian and provocative about everything that no one takes him seriously.
