Has announced new pronouns.

Again, apologies if this is being discussed already.

"They're not women's clothes, they're my clothes" seems to have been lost in the mists of time.

I love it on Ovarit, where you can say things exactly as you see them, and threads don't end up looking like swiss cheese because the mods there don't care much for some people who think it's their right to stop women talking amongst themselves. Refreshing.

Having said that, the deletions here come in quite handy if you get to see the post before it goes. Lets you know what they're most scared of people seeing...

How do I get on Ovarit? I don't have Twitter or their other methods mentioned. Can I request a code via Mumsnet?
Floisme · 21/12/2020 14:54

I think the deletions are very important - without them I'd have had no idea this was going on.

Winesalot · 21/12/2020 14:56

I haven’t got a sign in for the other site but I just went and read some of the threads.

The addition of a J to the surname is now something I will never unsee. Fab!

I wonder if Eddie gets paid less when in 'girl mode'?
Or if he ever had to worry about an unwanted pregnancy, and maybe how that might affect his career? I guess, being 58 now, he doesn't have to worry about that now as presumably he has been through his 'girl mode menopause'.

It's quite interesting watching the list of the unmentionables growing ever larger. Perhaps 'they' are hoping that by 2050 wrongthink will be impossible?

I had a PM from a lovely poster here who gave me a code after I expressed my annoyance when a completely civil thread about biology here got pulled. I don't know how many the poster has, but hopefully someone reading may have one? (I haven't done enough on Ovarit to generate codes yet, else I'd be dishing them out here left right and centre Grin)

SophocIestheFox · 21/12/2020 15:27

I really, genuinely loved Eddie back in the action transvestite days, and was full of admiration for the multi marathon effort.

The phrase “girl mode” being used in relation to a 58 year old who I’ve known since the early 90s to be a man makes me a grisly mix of nauseous and angry. And as for the handmaids -yes, you are, and yes I know it’s a mean word and I pretty much never use it, but it’s absolutely the correct word here- falling all over themselves to validate Eddie just leaves me speechless.

Any further commentary will get me deleted, but by Christ, no one can stop me thinking it.

Rob Newman joked about this on Radio 4 last week:
"I recently heard Eddie Izzard say he does some shows in 'girl mode' and some shows in 'boy mode'. I didn't know that was an option. Excited to discover that it was, I immediately informed the BBC that I want to do this current series in 'woman mode'. They said, 'OK, what does that entail?" I said, 'I demand to be paid 40% less than every other male comedian!' The BBC respected my wishes, and I was delighted when I received my womanly payslip. Ooh look at this payslip, it's like chiffon, so scanty, it barely covers anything at all!"

If Rob Newman turned out to be GC then truly all my teenage birthdays and christmases will have come at once. 😍

Grin the Rob Newman comments are great. I've not thought of him for years. I was slightly in love with him in his Newman and Baddiel days.Blush

Y,y! Strong possibility. David Baddiel also seems pretty GC.

Falleninwiththewrongcrowd · 21/12/2020 16:45

Newman's comments about Izzard were tangential to the thrust of the programme, entitled 'What is a city for?', but the whole programme is worth a listen, and includes references to an interesting short film by BBC journalist Stephanie Hegarty 'What would a city designed by women be like?', as well as Caroline Criado Perez's book 'Invisible women'.

Unlike their former colleagues from The Mary Whitehouse Experience (90s R4 comedy series), Hugh Dennis and Steve Punt, who now do The Now Show on R4. They have had guest comedians on, laughing at women's concerns about mixed sex facilities, and showing complete ignorance about self ID, e.g. asking what man would undergo gender reassignment surgery just to abuse women.

Can you imagine the Beeb having white comedians on to mock black people's fear of police violence? Or straight comedians laughing about gay-bashing? But, as it's only women who get harmed, it is of course fine for the national broadcaster to mock them for being afraid Angry

SophocIestheFox · 21/12/2020 16:55

The Now Show is unlistenable these days, I gave up on it completely. They were in such a rush to get their diverse slate of comedians in place, they forgot to check if they were funny.

allmywhat · 21/12/2020 17:00

Recently I saw his appearance on Joe Rogan where he talked about the 'bathroom incident', making fun of some teenage girls who were alarmed at and challenge his presence, and found it highly creepy.

How did Joe Rogan respond? I know he's been good on the subject of protecting women's sports, but I guess if he'd said anything to Izzard about frightening teenagers in the women's toilets you would have said so.

Catmaiden · 21/12/2020 17:27

I want to join Ovarit as well, does anyone else have a code they can pm me?

MichelleofzeResistance · 21/12/2020 17:28

Not surprised Rob Newman can see through it - I suspect if you dropped Izzard of the 90s into this situation today then they would too. I can hear the sketch they'd do on it.

"So you're part of this group are you? Hm. And you can tell them what to do? And they can't say no to you? Because why exactly? And you're the..... same group? And you're a liberal kind of socialisty person?"

There is No Part of this that makes Any Sense Whatsoever.

pinbinpin · 21/12/2020 17:30

Can I have a code as well, because I bloody am!

Oh dreadful, most male comedians gonna male. Have to say I also gave up on it a while ago because it was too cringey.

Catmaiden · 21/12/2020 17:32

I remember watching EI on stage, having absolute sidesplitting hysterics at him, in a dress, doing the "Olympic dressage" set.
He then was a man, who liked dressing in frocks. He said so, frequently!

I do wonder. It's so far from that sense of the absurd that made him so appealing.
