It all went a bit twitter, Rufus. People arguing whether communal changing rooms even existed, making wild accusations about the character of women who would use leisure facilities with communal changing rooms, shouts of TWAW and so on.

I engaged and asked if I could identify as irish and get an Irish passport and then went to bed before I got a response. And now, of course, the thread's been deleted.

The local swimming pool has cubicles but they are not ceiling to floor so males have been known to stare over the top and my friend was photographed under the bottom

It was actually relatively early in the thread, but very revealing.

I happened to wake up about 2 and by that time it was really weird - brand new poster shouting TWAW and repeatedly shouting "bigot" every time women talked about their actual experiences.

Then first thing (when I got up to walk the dog) more level headed posters were posting links countering the "it never happens" narrative. I suspect that was what really did it.

Straight from twitter. People used to try to embarrass Helen Staniland into silence using the same techniques.

I do wonder what kind of female lurker this could possibly work on. I have been using communal changing rooms since I was a teenage girl. Telling me that middle-aged women must be predators for being aware of typical leisure centre layout and wanting to keep the changing rooms single-sex is just absurd.

I had an amazingly strong sense of "accusations are admissions" from that poster.

I saw the original flaps diatribe but I did skim.

I also saw the mantra being shouted and that bigoty word started being used before I turned off my phone.

I suspect mn didn’t want to sort out the mess. Particularly the one where the poster who’d requested them not to intervene started abusing people.

The inference that their child was being misgendered, I never saw that. I saw they were correctly sexed which the poster agreed with. So, I don’t know. I think that poster couldn’t handle the thought they were enabling a entitled person to simply feel even more entitled and that they encouraged it. Because said person thrives on the ego feeding the parents have started. Started because of a misogynistic elevation of all males above women.

That's what freaked me out. I genuinely felt threatened by that poster. And I got a very strong sense towards the end (usual disclaimer: no-one can ever tell on the internet) that they were not who they purported to be.

Hi all - that poster was a returning troll, here to cause havoc on the thread. We've banned them now.

Michael. Was that person a troll all along? Did you know they had a history of trolling us? Or did they not even contact you to ‘not delete posts’ and that was a lie too?

There was some good posts there though from people who don’t normally post here. It is such a shame to lose those as people really put themselves out there and deserve to have those experiences witnessed.

But it was an own goal then. Because it really was clear the total disregard for women and girls. It felt like we were dealing with someone who had a mental illness themselves most of the time. The lack of awareness was off the planet.

Their dissonance kept the threads going and allowed many people to post great information for other readers.

I think one aspect of it is that 'we' are less likely to report posts like that because we'd rather let them stand and be visible. Sunlight and all that.

Mine too, though I didn't want to troll hunt on the thread. I feel vindicated!

The "I'm going to get you all banned" speech was where the goading seemed to tip over into narcissistic rage at the women on the thread.

Thanks Rufus, I see. Yes, it had started reasonable and then was slowly becoming more hostile, but I missed all the descent into scariness.

Hope you're okay, Cara and anyone else worried by it. There really are some horrors out there who are determined to silence women.
