I think it's a potentially relevant and interesting topic. And got the feeling it was in good-ish faith, if slightly patronising. Is there a word for younger people presuming they know more than older people? Youngsplaining, perhaps?

I always thought sloe gin tasted a lot like Buckfast.

I only made it once. All that patient turning and gentle rotation and months of waiting. And it tasted like Buckfast!! Maybe other people do it better, though, it's very possible.

Surely the whole point of sloe gin is you slowly make it yourself?

a bit late this year and no access to sloes.... though I do know a GC feminist local to me who is plannign to plant a hedge of it inher garden so I might have access ina few years

Since I get accosted by the damned things every time I open my front door in autumn, I ought to try making bramble gin.

But I won't, because gin is demonic.

I think at least part of the motivation for the thread was to horrify the mummies (lol!) but there's no problem if people want to engage.

Raspberries too. And raspberry vodka can be made with a pack of frozen raspberries from Lidl and cheapest Tesco vodka (which are easy to get hold of at any time of year) and takes about eight weeks.

i have some plum vodka on the go I must go and test it...

Bramble jelly? I make a general 'hedegrow' jelly, with whatever comes to hand. Sloes, brambles, rosehips, hawthorn berries, rowans, etc. It's lovely.

Hedgerow vodka is good too.

We've got bramble jam, but jelly is weird, so that's a no.

Meanwhile on other bits of the site we have two old-school MRAs - I almost feel nostalgic. We've got a "you're all hussies who just want to sponge off a man's earnings" 1950s stylee MRA, and a "sexual boundaries? Don't be ridiculous. As a man I can tell you you just need therapy to get past your hang-ups" MRA.
