Okay, I'm not sure if I can comment on other threads on here but there's a thread I'm reading and I'm just agog Shock

What I want to say is for a delf proclaimed girl, the masculinity just pours out but that would get deleted on the original thread Gin

This is the recipe, Ereshkigalangcleg

Someone sent it to me.

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2013/feb/06/how-cook-perfect-toad-in-the-hole

Serves 2–4 depending on appetite

3tbsp beef dripping or lard
6 sausages
2 eggs
100g plain flour, sifted
85ml whole milk
85ml ale
1tbsp wholegrain mustard

  1. Preheat the oven to 220C. Heat half the fat in a frying pan over a medium heat and brown the sausages on all sides (this is labour-intensive but worth it).
  2. Meanwhile put the eggs in a large bowl and beat, preferably with an electric hand whisk, until thick. Beat in the flour and milk alternately until smooth, then stir in the ale and mustard and leave to sit for 15 minutes.
  3. Put the remaining fat in a roasting tin (mine's about 26cm x 21cm) and put in the oven to heat. Once the sausages are browned all over, and the batter has rested, take it out of the oven and put over a medium flame. Pour in the fat from the sausage pan, followed by the batter, which should sizzle as it hits the tin. Add the sausages and return to the oven.
  4. Bake for about 35 minutes until well risen and golden, then serve immediately, preferably with good gravy and lots of green veg.

Back to sitting on my hands... that toad in the hole recipe looks delicious. I think I will try that for tomorrow night.

CatsCantCatchCriminals2 · 19/12/2020 09:58

And of course, with it being deleted, no one can verify the accusation of terrible transphobia.

It would be better, in my opinion, if instead of deleting threads, MN locked them. They could still remove individual post that actually broke guidelines but then people could make up their own minds about "transphobia" etc.

YOMTUB is great. Let's make YOMTUB happen!

Winesalot · 19/12/2020 10:08

I look forward to the YOMTUB warning and the YOMTUB scale should be applied at the top of every thread like a poll.

Agreed, although in this case the extreme youth of the OP is a complicating factor which means deletion was probably more appropriate.

Annoying though, cos it means also deleted is the assertion that to pass as cool, friendly and female online one must abandon capital letters and pepper one's speech with these newfangled emoji things and lols.

It was jolly good, though I says it as shouldn't.

For the really easy way to get the right proportion of ingredients, someone else sent me a recipe which involves owning three identical glasses: two (or three, or four) eggs broken into one glass, flour to the same height in the second, milk to the same height in the third. It was sent me as a recipe for Yorkshire pudding, but putting sausages in the pan to cook in the oven for a bit and provide hot fat works well.
allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/5931/fool-proof-yorkshire-puddings.aspx

NB: no recipe for Yorkshire puddings ever seems to find it necessary to suggest that you might need diddy Yorkshire pudding tins if you want to make the diddy little Yorkshire puddings instead of a sort of bedstead of pud in a great big tin like wot my mum used to. (I have just realised that such a pud is clearly a bolsover, on Meaning of Liff grounds.)

On a quite different subject, I find this book useful for spotting seriously poor reasoning and argument: many of the particularly obvious sorts are in the first chapters. neglectedbooks.com/Straight_and_Crooked_Thinking.pdf It is also a useful touchstone for times when I am becoming muddled in my own thinking and starting to stray from the path of reason into emotive claptrap.

Bolsover is in Derbyshire.Hmm

Strong women are often referred to as "masculine", so I'm in good company.

Thank you for this! Was planning to make toad in the hole for DP and I on Xmas eve.

InterfectoremVulpes · 19/12/2020 14:37

I've bought a bottle of advocaat so its officially Christmas.

offers round snowballs and panettone

Such a ladylike drink, huh?

midgebabe · 19/12/2020 14:39

Oh, but doesn't it have ...you know...alcohol? Doesn't it ? Oh I just couldn't.

Winesalot · 19/12/2020 15:30

Is pigs in blankets toad in the hole a thing???

ArabellaScott · 19/12/2020 15:45

It is now.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/12/2020 15:46

I don't see why not. Pigs in blankets in a bedstead. Cosy.

SophocIestheFox · 19/12/2020 15:46

Snowballs! Omg yes please 😀 my parents didn’t think they were alcoholic and used to give them to me when I was a wee sprog. Yum.

I can’t take credit for YOMTUB, it was the venerable Germaine Bunbury who coined that in her magnificent 2012 offering “Shiting Constellation of Bollocks: Pedagogic Theory, Ontological Determinism and Mythical Praxis in Making Feminism All About Me(n)”.

SophocIestheFox · 19/12/2020 15:47

Oh. That should be “Shifting Constellation” Blush

Sorry Germaine!

Frantically scrolls back to SophocIestheFox* YOMTUB post.
