[I desperately want to tell Keira how sorry I am that nobody protected her the way she has just protected so very many others with her strength & bravery Flowers ]

hoteltango · 02/12/2020 01:45

@Melroses

Does that take into account the children who are handed over to adult services at 18?

I don't know for sure.

Or is your question some kind of gotcha?

Melroses · 02/12/2020 01:51

It is just a question. Many move over to adult services at 18 after affirmation and puberty blockers for srs.

ClaireP20 · 02/12/2020 05:12

Fantastic!!! Well done Keira!!!@ so strong x

ChateauMargaux · 02/12/2020 06:16

Let's not forget Mrs A. the faceless shero of this case who first took this battle to court. She is a middle aged woman who is fighting for proper care for her autistic daughter against the might of the medical establishment who continue to refuse to see that teenage girls with autism need specialist mental health support. These girls are a stark representation of the failure of our medical system to take account of sex based differences and how our society is failing gender non conforming girls. Keira put her name and face to this case, Mrs A was the initial driving force.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 02/12/2020 06:22

Ah, I didn't realise that - I thought Keira was the start of it and Mrs A came in later.

Well, congratulations to the both of them for a well-fought battle and a good outcome.

Such an important judgment - well done to the claimantsFlowers

TomatoesAreFruit · 02/12/2020 06:42

The Times have a podcast on this in 'stories of our time'.

NeurotrashWarrior · 02/12/2020 07:00

If she had all this evidence from other counties, 30 years worth, why didn't she submit it to the court? Why didn't the Tavistock?

Clutching at straws.

Keira, thank you again, shero.

And that quote is wonderful.

nauticant · 02/12/2020 07:15

Going back to before bedtime:

Is there a word for Trump style lie & deny?

It's called "Post Truth" @Tierful. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-truth_politics. There's some debate as to whether it's actually a form of post modernism.

Datun · 02/12/2020 07:46

Does Susie Green realise that ‘experimental’ and ‘life saving’ have actual, specific meaning in a medical context? And that treating gender dysphoria with GnRHa drugs is the former, and not the latter?

SG is an IT consultant.

EdgeOfACoin · 02/12/2020 07:51

It's a mystery, isn't it?

Datun · 02/12/2020 07:55

NeurotrashWarrior

She would have submitted everything she had to the court when she applied to be an intervenor. They reject material that is not new, or not relevant.

And they rejected her application. Therefore any credible evidence was simply not there.

Susie Green needs to be told, officially, that she cannot use suicide stats that are fake. It's irresponsible and, according to Samaritans, could be dangerous. You cant publicly and repeatedly tell everybody that trans children attempt suicide, on no evidence, and then use as evidence the children you mentor who say they want to commit suicide.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 02/12/2020 08:00

The new CEO of the Samaritans is Julie Bentley, who until recently was head of Girlguiding. I won’t comment further than that.

Bloody hell. It's incredibly incestuous all this isn't it.

Still, even she can't, presumably, re-write all their guidelines to suit an ideology.

PronounssheRa · 02/12/2020 08:08

It's incredibly incestuous all this isn't it.

Yes it is. The links between ideologues and how they move between positions of power is shocking.

EdgeOfACoin · 02/12/2020 08:17

You cant publicly and repeatedly tell everybody that trans children attempt suicide, on no evidence, and then use as evidence the children you mentor who say they want to commit suicide.

Exactly. Unfortunately, I think some very distressed children (who have been told that this ruling is a 'disaster') will hear these sorts of statements and think that since they are trans they must therefore feel suicidal. If they don't feel suicidal, they might feel as though they ought to feel suicidal.

It's dangerous.

Clearly, Mermaids gave no consideration about what provisions it would make if Keira Bell won her case. Maybe its directors were too dim to realise they ought to come up with a plan, such as a counselling helpline they could discuss on Newsnight. Maybe it never occurred to them that the Tavi might lose.

NotBadConsidering · 02/12/2020 08:21

It’s also worth mentioning this very important point:

Puberty blockers are not given to children who are suicidal.

I can’t emphasise this enough. Green’s whole reason for them being given doesn’t even exist in the cases I’ve been involved with. The children aren’t suicidal. There is no indication they may even become suicidal. There are children who have been given puberty blockers at the ages of 11 purely for the sake of them following an ideological pathway.

Sorry that should read:

I think this is the crux of that pathetic tantrum of a response from Green. Look at all the media outlets primed with victory headlines and articles - they all believed, based on nothing but their success in bulldozing through safeguarding so far, that Keira would lose.

They have never been put on the back foot so completely, but whenever it does happen, the flustered, arrogant, ill-prepared responses tell their own story.

I am still, so, so delighted the quacks and charlatans have been exposed. Keira and Mrs A, you are magnificent.

NotBadConsidering · 02/12/2020 08:34

I wonder how long it will take for an evangelist to publicly proclaim “actually, the judges have a point. We’ve fucked up here. We’re sorry.”

Or am I cynical in thinking there will be most who claim they were always at war with Eurasia? Hmm

RedToothBrush · 02/12/2020 08:36

@BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero

The mum in the above video gave her son her own HRT because she was so afraid he might suicide.

I wonder who put that idea in her head? And in her son’s head?

Mermaids and their ilk have so much to answer for.

My son is having serious problems sleeping. I know i'll give him some of my valium.

This in no way would raise safeguarding issues...

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 02/12/2020 08:38

Won’t happen for many years - if ever.

I remember watching the documentary (completely different topic) ‘three identical strangers’ - don’t want to spoil it - but there was shenanigans of this size going on, and one person involved was interviewed. She had not one drop of remorse or sympathy for the people whose lives she helped to royally mess up. No awareness of wrongdoing at all.
