EM: Evidence for treatment lacking. Extra protection good thing.

SG: What other treatment pathway require court to access? Breadth of international evidence shows positive outcomes.

MaudTheInvincible · 01/12/2020 23:24

God, Susie Green is a car crash Confused

persistentwoman · 01/12/2020 23:24

What a charlatan. Emotive, anecdotal and completely unable to respond to the damning judgement. No wonder Mermaids weren't allowed anywhere near the JR

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/12/2020 23:24

That was a really good piece. Worth watching on iPlayer. Susie Green did not come across well. Spoke very fast, sounded flustered, couldn't cite evidence, Maitlis corrected her on all false points made.

Keira mostly allowed to talk, only rough question was about her empathy for children now denied this treatment which she answered extremely well.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 01/12/2020 23:25

SG said nothing - it’s mean, I know other people who say it is mean Hmm

notassigned · 01/12/2020 23:25

Well done Emily. Newsnight is a beacon of sense on this issue thanks to the research they have already done on Tavistock. Would like to see EM vs the fox slayer on this.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/12/2020 23:25

Puberty blockers or not there will still be young people who identify as trans. Just like she once did.

And if they experience their puberty, they may then find that they are NOT trans - that they are gay, or just don't conform to gender stereotypes; and those who do still feel that they are trans can take thee appropriate drugs/ have surgery - or just change their names as they wish.

Either way they will suffer far fewer health difficulties - physical and mental.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/12/2020 23:26

I was horrified at the way SG was blatantly trying to use suicide as a trump card, and was very glad Maitlis comprehensively shut her down and explained clearly why she was wrong.

Melroses · 01/12/2020 23:27

The JR wanted extra evidence. No evidence there. Anecdata

FannyCann · 01/12/2020 23:27

I enjoyed that. Should have had bingo cards at the ready. Susie floundering there, falling back on her anecdotes and false statistics.
Well done Emily. Nice dismissal at the end too. Smile

singwhenyourewinningyouonly · 01/12/2020 23:28

Goodness gracious the narcissistic rage on Susie Green tonight.

A traumatised 23 year old fresh from a high court battle has just totally outclassed her.

Does susie green get paid for such displays? Please tell me no...

RedToothBrush · 01/12/2020 23:28

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

Susie Green - autonomy over own bodies, discriminating against trans people.

Already seen rise in suicidality.

The ruling was 10.30am this morning.

And you have a bunch of adults in positions of influence like Susie Green going around shouting 'suicide' in a manner which goes against press guidelines because of the nature of social contagion on the subject of suicide.

Yep. Great bit of responsibility there.

Maitlis is a good egg
testing987654321 · 01/12/2020 23:29

Well done Keira!

Susie Green is so irresponsible. Her whole mission in life is built around proving she wasn't wrong in the way she treated her child.

If she really cared about the children and families she supports she would use calming language, that they could get the relevant court approval and just to be patient. Not suggest that self-harm and worse are inevitable.

Going through puberty can be extremely distressing but support will help people, not convince them it's a disaster.

YourWinter · 01/12/2020 23:29

I haven't followed this in detail but want to add my congratulations to Keira for her tremendous courage in pursuing this.

I don't think I have seen the Mermaids CEO Susie Green on television before. What an utterly repellent character.

Callmejudith · 01/12/2020 23:30

I want to imagine that Maitlis told Keira to leave the sofa and that she’d be tearing SG a new one

She really boils my piss.

What other treatments for children are purely experimental? With no evidence, no data, no science behind it?

LorettasBox · 01/12/2020 23:30

Suicide right out of the gate, and then an admission that she had no evidence, only anecdotes. Maitlis shutting down every fib, Green getting flustered and tetchy.

Keira bossing it before, not having to stay for Green, and then Maitlis might as well have said 'Right, get te fuck' to Green at the end.

Fucking bang on.

MaudTheInvincible · 01/12/2020 23:32

Yes, indeed. That was a great interview by Keira.

NotBadConsidering · 01/12/2020 23:32

Keira is just absolutely incredible. To leave court after that ruling, the scrutiny all day, the inevitable vitriol, then to go on Newsnight on national TV and face that awful woman - Green not Maitlis - with her lies. I don’t know how she finds the energy but she deserves the biggest medal going. 👏👏👏

JoodyBlue · 01/12/2020 23:33

I am still upset at the insinuation in this interview and earlier on R4 that Keira bears ANY responsibility for teens now wanting PBs. I find that quite immoral questioning. I am surprised and unimpressed at EM for that. Apart from that good job.

Thingybob · 01/12/2020 23:33

Did SG state that she had been "working in this field for 21 years"

So since1999 when Jackie was only 6? That doesn't fit with previous accounts.
