Apologies if this had already been discussed as the tweet is from 25th October but I couldn’t see a thread already. ‘Vulva people’!! WTF

It is very true. I quickly came to the conclusion that 'some' of these type of activists are not actually trans people at all. 'Some' are, of course.

MaudTheInvincible · 05/11/2020 09:51

I suppose it's someone who identifies as a Professional Ally, keeping all others firmly in their subordinate positions of either victim or transgressor.

BrassicaRabbit · 05/11/2020 09:52

I think it's really important to hang on to vulva people actually. Vulva owners (or havers, as having implies ownership) leads to the implication that we should be forced to share that which we own.

Vulva people is a good reminder that women are actually people.

Woman is problematic when used by people who believe in gender ideology as it still refers to gender. So "women and transmen" is analogous to "infidels and Christians" rather than "atheists and Christians".

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/11/2020 09:54

For some reason, this thread reminds me of Red Dwarf.

The some is important. Even though posters quite obviously do not mean ALL if they do not write 'all', this seems to be a new way of reporting. I went through a stage of writing 'obviusly not ALL' on the bottom of posts, to not fall foul of that one (though again, should go without saying really) but seem to be in the clear again now so have been attempting to add in many many somes.

I think some of the reporters also assume that when people say activists, or TRA, they mean transpeople. This is usually hugely incorrect, TRAs are a very certain kind of person, from my experience.

MichelleofzeResistance · 05/11/2020 10:02

I am still waiting with interest for the 'shit, in trying to dehumanise and deride them ever further we've accidentally given them a word that has meaning' reverse ferret, because keeping females permanently confused, off balance, with no language that permits a grip on the situation and no idea what is going on is a whole big part of the Cake. It's a thing.

In the meantime, I may write to my MP and the Vulva People and Equalities committee and point out that this brilliant tweeter has solved the issue. We'll have mens, women's and vulva people loos and changing rooms and refuges and hospital wards, and that will be great.

TRAs are definitely not exclusively Transpeople. Many a bandwagon hopper in the mix.

MichelleofzeResistance · 05/11/2020 10:10

Its devoid of the romance, of a nebulous image - if woman has become this vague thing with emotions and trappings that means anything anyone wants it to mean and therefore a woman's space is something anyone at all may wish to be in then ok. Crack on with that.

Vulva person is just what it is, it's the physical fact. Nothing nebulous. Yes, it's crude, but it's factual and straight to the point.

MichelleofzeResistance · 05/11/2020 10:12

And if there was a women's space, and a vulva person's space, I'd really like to hear the justification for identifying into the vulva person's space.

HecatesCats · 05/11/2020 10:13

I think Vulva People also has a powerful cult like quality and I think we should start building statues & shrines to the Vulva People where we can go and worship.

There are already quite a few suitable statues available, some on existing places of worship.

littlbrowndog · 05/11/2020 10:35

I think a lot of these are coming from bot twitter accounts.

The vulva one was. It was an account with maybe 17 followers

Don’t know the reason for them doing this

Winesalot · 05/11/2020 10:46

Joking aside, can you imagine turning to your daughter and saying "you're such a brilliant vulva person!" ?

Maybe I should try it on my teenage vulva person. So far, none of my other arguments against inclusive language dehumanising women has made any difference.

littlbrowndog · 05/11/2020 10:52

There is another one doing the rounds

Uterus holder 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/11/2020 10:54

There's one of them on the exercise bike I use at the gym!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/11/2020 10:54

I don't want anyone holding my uterus!

littlbrowndog · 05/11/2020 10:55

Cmon erish.

Don’t be that uterus holder denier

Be inclusive

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/11/2020 10:56

I know I should be less exclusionary Grin

Winesalot · 05/11/2020 10:58

A Uterus Holder? Are they discussing a butcher then? To what lengths will this go.

Should we start a thread simply listing the used (and referenced with a pic of the reference) of the terms we see used instead of women and and a thread that details the same but for men (links to each thread referenced in each OP)?

Just for all those nupties that continue to deny that there is any issue here at all. Who believe it is inclusive and equitable.

littlbrowndog · 05/11/2020 11:01

Yeah wines. Do it.

I will pull up anything I see on twitter

Winesalot · 05/11/2020 11:03

Really? I used 'some' and did not mention the fetish I was referring (which was not one that was related to transpeople unless they were into that fetish).

I was pointing out that dehumanising language becomes ridiculous when it includes other mammals. Hence it is dehumanising!!!

Or was it that I referred to another thread where others have been telling us to state a fact is 'not a good look'?

Winesalot · 05/11/2020 11:06

I'd better not 'littlbrowndog' if I want to stay on MN. It seems that it could have a short life like my posts at the moment.

Because pointing out that it is dehumanising to women and that there can be other meanings associated with the terms being used seems to be not allowed anymore.
