Apologies if this had already been discussed as the tweet is from 25th October but I couldn’t see a thread already. ‘Vulva people’!! WTF

Oh lord. My son, whom I love dearly, has just commented on this twitter thread, saying something extremely disobliging about those who object to 'inclusive' language. I am sooo tempted to say 'Spoken like a true penis person' but it's really not worth it. It won't change his mind, and will only make things more difficult between us.

Sorry, that's not a helpful contribution but maybe helps explain where some of the silence is coming from.

Angry Blush Angry Blush

teezletangler · 04/11/2020 05:21

Caroline's a bit confused - she thinks TERFs are 'other' women who think bad things. She doesn't realise that she's just TERFED. She's TERFED all over the place with that comment.

I'm confused as to why she thinks JKR is one of those nasty TERF and she isn't, when JKR entered the waters with almost an identical comment on Twitter to the one that she has made here Confused

nomdeplume2019 · 04/11/2020 05:25

@Harmarsuperstar

I thought reducing people to their genitals was wrong?? I can't fucking keep up with all this bullshit Confused
Exactly
Whatwouldscullydo · 04/11/2020 06:52

Do you think she gets it yet?

testing987654321 · 04/11/2020 06:56

No idea who Caroline Hirons is, but her Twitter is interesting, She clearly dislikes terfs then gets called one.

Does she not realise that most people called terfs are concerned about women's rights?

This is the link to her amnesty comments.

Flapjak · 04/11/2020 07:05

I dont know why they bother with 'people'. May as well just drop the faux politeness and name us vulvas, though how that is inclusive of either trans people of either sex, i dont know.

ChateauMargaux · 04/11/2020 09:06

Other people on Caroline Hiron's thread are struggling to see how we can't speak our thoughts on these matters without appearing to be hateful...

"- I think the TERF and JKR nonsense has truly made it difficult to have these conversations because they’ve jaded serious concerns by weaponising them to be transphobic and now we’re left with this"

"it’s sad for trans people and for women tbh, this is why I believe TERF rhetoric is seriously anti feminist and harmful because now we all have our guards up and can’t tell what side someone is on"

And starting to slowly come to the conclusion that perhaps some feminists are right after all, if only we could figure out who the terfy ones are because otherwise we do seem to be on the same side, that of women.

We love you Caroline, so you can't be a TERF and we agree with what you are saying and we know we are not TERFs but the TERFs are saying the same thing so what does that make them???

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2020 09:14

Let's hope the penny drops for some of them.
The women being called 'TERFs' and 'transphobes' are exactly like you. They're just women who don't want women's rights eroding, who've been demonised with these labels.

Whatwouldscullydo · 04/11/2020 09:37

Oh god its still going.

Shes determined not to be "one of us" buttons like she's struggling to ensure she doesn't appear to connect you cant have it both. You cant keep the word woman and be an ally.

Shame.she didn't heed the warnings really. I'm.sure she's seen plenty of times that unless you are prepared to completely sacrifice yourself and ve grateful for the opportunity to do so, it just won't be enough.

Like all allys she never thought it would be her. She thinks of she's nice enough and women enough she will be ok.

Nope.

Whatwouldscullydo · 04/11/2020 09:39

and woke enough.

Autocorrect

DrDavidBanner · 04/11/2020 09:40

@Malvarrosa I love that and its still in my head! 😂

Laugh along with the vulva people
Laugh along even though they're laughing at you
And the stupid things you do
Because you think its oh so cooooool

Harmarsuperstar · 04/11/2020 09:44

Cause everybody hates a tourist...

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2020 10:35

How can supporting trans and being inclusive be so anti-women?

How indeed?
Because of the fundamental mistake in accepting the mantra "transwomen are women, transmen are men". By insisting on transwomen being included in everything for women, and conversely transmen being excluded from them - including those areas where 'gender' was irrelevant but the delineation between male and female mattered. For not accepting everyone for who they genuinely are.

DrDavidBanner · 04/11/2020 10:52

Especially one who thinks its all such a laugh

Winesalot · 04/11/2020 11:44

I wonder if the Baroness has chosen 'The Vulva People Group' as a name....

From looking at the comments this has bought out, maybe just maybe, these woke organisations are doing some hard lifting in exposing the insanity of using this language.

I noticed the Harmony Party UK has been battling on twitter for merely pointing out that it was an incredibly clumsy way to describe women and that using '"Women and people with vulvas" probably makes more sense - and is properly inclusive."

twitter.com/HarmonyPartyUK/status/1323711122378207232?s=20

Good to see that momentum has started to build and that the purity spiralling is really beginning to shine light that really, very few women appreciate this dehumanising language and how it is ALWAYS women never seen it applied to men yet.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/11/2020 12:02

Isn't the Vulva a river in Russia? It flows into the Volga.

Escapeplanning · 04/11/2020 12:06

Our opinion is based on the wishes of the only people whose opinion actually matters about their own bodies: those deciding for themselves.

Self-determination is a human right.

Anyone make any sense of this sanctimony from Harmony?

DrDavidBanner · 04/11/2020 13:14

Our opinion is based on the wishes of the only people whose opinion actually matters about their own bodies: those deciding for themselves.

Self-determination is a human right.

Unless those people are women.

MichelleofzeResistance · 04/11/2020 14:27

Our opinion is based on the wishes of the only people whose opinion actually matters

Yep, there it is.

Under this interesting ideology, the world is split into the givers and the takers. The served and the servants. The people who matter and the people who don't. And rights, kindness, inclusion, wishes, preferences, the rights to choose their self definition and language and be listened to and respected - they're something the people who don't matter better give unconditionally to the people that do and get it right or else, while expecting nothing in return.

Why? Why do they really believe that anyone is going to enable this kind of attitude and behaviour?

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 04/11/2020 17:11

I am weirdly fascinated to see how it plays out with Caroline Hirons. She has always been TWAW/TMAM but she is now realising where that logic takes us and how it's does affect women and watching that realisation in real time is really quite interesting! Especially as she is very outspoken generally.

Applesandpears23 · 04/11/2020 17:25

Surely it should be ‘people with vulvas’? At least if this catches on people will learn to use the word vulva without blushing.

Escapeplanning · 04/11/2020 18:01

It's addressing women in the main so women is fine. Adding in extra words for people that prefer to be referred to by organs would be okay too, so women and people with vulvas.
NaughtipussMaximus · 04/11/2020 18:15

@FannyCann

I haven't a clue who she is but it looks like she's reached her JKR moment.
We’re seeing her peaktrans in real time!
maslinpan · 04/11/2020 18:42

If we are Vulva People, then logically are TW then actually TVP? ( Not the veggie protein kind of TVP, of course). All this linguistic wriggling around does tend to lead to some strange outcomes.

SittingAround1 · 04/11/2020 19:57

I don't understand. What's wrong with writing women and transmen?

If everyone can decide what they want to be called I want to be referred to as a woman.
