@ChakaDakotaRegina

Oh I get it. If you want to term yourself a mother for biological reasons, that’s bigoted, but if you want to “identify” as a mother in a vague, stereotypical way, you’re progressive.

The identity has value but only if it’s taken up by someone that wouldn’t normally have it.

Precisely. Bit like the word woman, unfortunately.

I’m confused, I thought Sam Smith is non-binary, but he seems to be using gendered pronouns when he could have easily just said “I can’t wait to be a parent”. I genuinely do not understand the whole non-binary thing, he is very clearly a man and for the most part dresses and appears stereotypically male, so why does he not wish to be referred to using male pronouns, but is happy to use female ones? It’s like he’s ashamed to be a man for whatever reason, but isn’t trans so doesn’t want to “live as a woman” either.

28 - thems been around for ages though? I don't remember them being a singing kid at all. So there's a chance thems mum will be on the scene? She needs a talk to them.

WishICouldThinkOfAGoodName · 27/10/2020 13:30

He would not be a good ‘mummy’ Confused

CaraDuneRedux · 27/10/2020 13:32

Thunk of head hitting desk.

Sam Smith has gone full-on Loretta from Life of Brian.

What a complete and utter plonker, in fact a complete tit (or possibly ultra-feminine moob).

Dreeple · 27/10/2020 13:33

Hope them’s A better mummy than them was a live stage performer the night I saw them.

pandafunfactory · 27/10/2020 13:39

Somebody needs to point out it's not all about them.....

JuliaJohnston · 27/10/2020 13:42

But it is all about them. And should an unfortunate child be introduced into that toxic mess, it will continue to be all about them Sad

I've just had to watch that clip.. Grin Grin Grin

"Its symbolic of his struggle against opression!
...Its symbolic of his struggle against reality, more like."

So a fairly average singer who is constantly looking for attention wants to become a parent. Hope they know that children's needs come first but I doubt it. Such a twat just epitomizes the misogynistic attitude of many young men at the moment . I shake my head and just mutter in Game of Thrones fashion ...you know nothing Sam Smith Hmm

AchieveBelieve · 27/10/2020 14:22

So Sam Smith feels perfectly comfortable and ‘safe’ using the word ‘mummy’ as a non-binary person who was, deep breath, ‘assigned Male at birth’ but organisations like Sands don’t??! It really is ‘a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world’ to coin a phrase.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 27/10/2020 14:36

Christ on a cracker, just when you thought he couldn't reveal himself as any more of a sexist plonker....

nepeta · 27/10/2020 14:40

This shows the contradictions in the gender ideology. Smith can't be a mummy because nonbinary people are birth-parents. Only icky women can be mummies. And girls' thighs and breasts is transphobic. The sex of the body has nothing to do with whether someone is a woman or a man or neither in the gender ideology, after all!

They should have said that they have menstruator thighs and breasts and that would have been fine.

I find it sad that Smith didn't like male role expectations so decided to move out of the category rather than trying to loosen those rigid expectations. Now the boxes are as rigid as ever and a few individuals try to make private contracts with patriarchy by declaring themselves something else than binary.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/10/2020 14:43

“I want to be with the kids and I want to watch them grow and be with them every day

Aka a normal daddy.

But he's biologically male. Wanting to be a Mummy is just as fucked up coming from him as Sands refusal to use the term at all.
FairFridaythe13th · 27/10/2020 14:47

I think they should get a goldfish and see how it goes.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 27/10/2020 14:57

What are you talking about, Daddies don't do that! Daddies go out to work all day, come home and sit in the big armchair with a pipe and a newspaper, ignoring the kids. He then eats the dinner that Mummy has cooked before settling in front of the TV for the night, while Mummy puts the kids to bed.

Mummy stays at home and looks after the children all day, every day. She does all of the child rearing including the 'watching them grow bit' which Daddies are not interested in at all.

Come on now, this is 'progressive' everyone!!!

Twinkie01 · 27/10/2020 15:06

I want Ladybird to write a book about this using all the appropriate pronouns.

DeRigueurMortis · 27/10/2020 15:18

Sorry MrMenno not MrMemmo Blush

Anyway the link works....

raddledoldmisanthropist · 27/10/2020 15:19

“I want to be with the kids and I want to watch them grow and be with them every day. I want to be mummy.” Smith continued: “I'm definitely going to do that at some point, but I've still got more in me. I've still got ambition.

I think it's clear that the Sams Smith have very, very stereotyped views of gender roles. The idea that people so young would see being with your kids as being mummy is downright strange to me, as is the idea that full time parenting is something you do when your ambition is over.

I suspect that they had quite unpleasant childhoods and (being camp blokes) their way of rationalising the fact that their model of masculinity was so toxic was to identify strongly with femininity. I feel sorry for them- no one says stuff like this unless they still have a lot of issues. I hope none of them have kids until they are in a better place.

Berthatydfil · 27/10/2020 15:23

The Mr menno video is hilarious

bellinisurge · 27/10/2020 15:24

Fuck off.
My daughter's father does nurturing stuff. I do nurturing stuff.
I gave birth so I'm her mum. He impregnated me so he's her dad.
Biology.
I've cared for other people's children because they entrusted me with this.
