@TartanLassie

I don't use twitter so am a wee bit confused on ratio.

I googled and read The Ratio refers to an unofficial Twitterr* law which states that if the amount of replies to a tweet greatly outnumbers the amount of retweets and likes, then the tweet is bad.

However this tweet has 2k likes and only 1.2k quote tweets, so surely that mean the ratio is a positive. Sorry for being thick :)

I always thought it was to do with amount of likes compared to comments, so this tweet it has 2.1k likes but 3.5k comments.

I'm confused now too Grin

It’s the replies v.s the likes that makes the “ratio” on the assumption that if you disagree you reply. (If you can’t see the number of replies you need to click on a reply then scroll up to the original tweet)

On the tampons for battlefield med kits - it’s true.

"Quote retweet is often, but not always, used to make negative comments, straight retweet without comment is usually endorsement.
The removal of retweet without quote makes retweets a poor measure ratio. Replies to likes is the usual measure.

Ah thank you gibongibongibin I can now see the reply numbers so makes sense now!

Awning10 · 24/10/2020 13:02

Just went back to look and noticed that they have a hashtag transisbeautiful link at the top. Click on the link if you dare! Sixth post down is someone in sexy underwear with their dick hanging out!

Thanks, jellyfrizz. Good to know -- especially good to know it's unlikely to be Tampax so we don't need to try to explain to them why they ought to use some other brand.

KurriKawari · 24/10/2020 13:11

What alternatives to tampax would people recommend please? I have found their quality is going downhill anyway. Have a Hey Girls mooncup but prefer tampons.

FeedTheSparrows · 24/10/2020 13:12

Sent my complaint about this BS via their website email form Why restrict the hassle they are getting to Twitter?!

Should others wish to do same: tampax.co.uk/en-gb/contact-us

I went along these lines - feel free to edit and recycle this if you want to send your own complaint:

Biological sex is a fact of life. I understand there are those who are troubled by it, but there are other ways of supporting them without erasing women or declaring 'women' to be a controversial word.

I urge you to find a different way to reach people who do not believe they are women but who have periods. Please do not join this sexist trend of trying to make woman, women and girls into dirty words.

We've barely managed to get over the taboo of mentioning periods and menstruation - we do NOT need this backwards step whereby woman becomes the word no one dares to say.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/10/2020 13:13

Thinking about it, I'd expect non-scented brands to be better, because of not getting any more potentially contaminating chemicals into a wound.

FeedTheSparrows · 24/10/2020 13:13

I added that I am a Tampax customer but would find another brand if they didn't reconsider this nonsense.

EstuaryBird · 24/10/2020 13:15

Just talking to a friend who’s son is a transman about this and asked if he would be offended (he’s in his 30s and been a man for around 10 years).

He takes hormones and hasn’t had a period for a very long time. Apparently most transmen do this, although not all, so they’re alienating a huge number of women for ‘including’ a tiny number of transmen....who are probably pretty realistic about it and not bothered anyway.

Awning10 · 24/10/2020 13:17

I'm going to complain about the link that includes dick pics.

In the context of tampons, wouldn't a more relevant hashtag be #transishandsome ? (Does that exist? If not, why not?)

Don’t scroll any further down than that!!! 😳😳😳.

Think Tampax need to know that that hashtag contains a graphic video of masturbation and anal sex.......

Awning10 · 24/10/2020 13:21

Just sent this:

I wish to complain about the link in your twitter post. The hashtag transisbeautiful link contains inappropriate pictures of men posing in sexy underwear. One has his penis hanging out!

I would have thought that if you were a transman you would take suppressants for periods due to what they symbolise.

Apparently Mooncup (the brand) also goes in for ‘not all people who have periods are women’ too, sadly. Seen on Twitter. Everyone saying Bodyform ad was good, but I am pretty sure that the woman with chest scars (womb stories) is meant to be a trans man rather than a women who’s had a mastectomy? I’ve seen people applauding their ‘inclusivity’.

The Nappy Lady team just emailed to say they are launching The Period Lady and there's a 20% discount code (not sure if I'm allowed to post it).

www.theperiodlady.co.uk

Here at The Nappy Lady we are passionate about nappies and have kept our website as a dedicated nappy specialist however over the years we have expanded to include a select range of reusable sanitary & incontinence wear.

People have become more aware of the plastic impact their period is having on the environment and we have seen a huge increase in demand for these products. Since we moved warehouse we have been able to dedicate our entire mezzanine level to reusable pads, cups and pants.

In line with demand and our passion for these products I am now very pleased to be able to introduce you to our brand NEW sister website The Period Lady.._

The Period Lady is run by the same team of ladies, with the same super fast packing and dispatching times. The Period Lady has a lower minimum postage level of £20 so it's cheaper for you to top up if mother nature catches you out!

We hope the new dedicated sanitary wear website will help us to spread the word even further about reusable menstrual products and to help even more people make the choice for a more environmentally friendly period.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/10/2020 13:38

I’ve seen people applauding their ‘inclusivity’.

I didn't mind that so much, because the advert was so clearly focussed on the female experience, and didn't talk about "people who menstruate".

Awning10 · 24/10/2020 13:38

It’s OK, I’ve sent that one 😂👍

Good work! Halloween Grin
