I’m still waiting to hear back from Always, M&S, Audible...

They don’t speak to wimmin. I think their training manual has a chapter on how to engage with complaints from menstruators - ignore them until they go away. They are silly little creatures and will be easily distracted by kittens or shiny things in the meantime. They will forget their silly complaint (whatever it was) and will flock back you you with open arms and buy even more of other products!

Sorry all of the above companies (and more). You still don’t get a penny from me and I do remember to tell people exactly why.

Whatwouldscullydo · 26/10/2020 10:50

Yes I fully expect to be ignored. Like the op I had the audacity to inform.them.that any teens /pre teens researching their period options will.now be lead to pics of erect penises

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/10/2020 10:58

From my point of view the really silly thing is that they didn't need to start this anger by phrasing things that way at all.

They could have missed out any reference to what sex/gender/woo might use Tampax by saying instead "For everyone who has a period". Would that have made women feel furious about their erasure? probably not.

jellyfrizz · 26/10/2020 11:02

@TheShoesa

Excellent point, Testing

"They are quite happy with woman/women where it is used in a context a transwoman can enter and gain validation from. E.g. women's centres, sports, prisons, tech groups, book lists, all women's shortlists, IWD etc.

All those things are separated by biological sex but it's not intrinsic to the language. So woman can be kept and they will claim it and thus be validated as a woman.

In areas of biology where woman cannot be claimed for validation. the word woman must go!"

Yes! This is such an important point.
StanfordPines · 26/10/2020 11:28

Of course some people who have periods aren’t women. They are girls.

merrymouse · 26/10/2020 11:37

I think Bodyform got it right in that ad a free months ago - they didn't mention women, but they weren't coy about clearly showing who is affected by periods.

Its the very clear attempts to pretend that periods have nothing to do with sex that are so harmful, and this is very much the aim of Tampax's tweet.

FairFridaythe13th · 26/10/2020 11:41

Got a period? You need this!

There you go. They aren’t addressing us.

NRatched · 26/10/2020 15:12

Men are not causing this issue 'TRANSmen' are causing the issue.

Transmen are not causing this issue though. They are a handy gotchya. But its not transmen. The answer would be 'women and transmen' if it was about transmen. Its just more erasure of actual women.

Transwomen are women
Women are bleeders, cervix havers, or birthing parents Hmm

MichelleofzeResistance · 26/10/2020 15:53

The issue is the implication that woman is something biologically related.

It isn't for TM that all this massive virtue signalling is being done. In fact very little of anything to this extent is ever wheeled out for anyone female regardless of how they identify themselves.

MichelleofzeResistance · 26/10/2020 15:56

And yes, to the TM point being useful, rather like the usefulness of female people who have reached menopause, or who through medical issues have never menstruated.

Have you ever noticed those women being upset and voicing how excluded they feel from the packaging of sanpro? No one has. It's never happened. Women who have finished menstruating are largely glad to be rid of the whole grotty business and to skip gladly past the sanpro with third finger raised and spend the money on something more interesting. But implying that there's hordes of them going tragically unheard is quite useful.

MichelleofzeResistance · 26/10/2020 15:59

And to add there too: when at any other time do you notice the care and interest in the possibly distressed and excluded feelings of menopausal females? Ever?

In fact in the feelings of any females at all?

With loads of females shouting about being excluded from femalehood, the need for single sex spaces, their feelings and needs - isn't it odd how this political lobby does not give a fuck about any of that, but has this care for excluded menopausal females in this one context?

Gosh. Bit of a puzzle there.

I started writing complaints letters because of the covid quarantines. No answers in most cases, sometimes a form letter full of meaningless word salad. I did receive a couple of proper answers.

I don't expect answers in any case. The point is to do what the trans activists are doing which is to make our complaints visible. Talking here is useful, but lots of people complaining is also good and reaches people which won't read here.

I once read (though that was long ago) that companies assume each complaint letter means that some number (100? 1000?) of people overall feel the same way. So if a company gets 100 complaints, it might pay attention. That is the basis for my plan to keep complaining.

I now think that even "women and trans men" might have a problem, because a trans man's gender identity is argued to be based on an abstract concept not linked to the sex of their bodies. Putting the two terms together like that suggests that the same is the case for women on the whole.

I don't think that is true, because I have yet to find someone in my private questioning who doesn't refer to their bodies as part of the reason for their gender definition. This applies to both men and women.

I don't know what some acceptable terminology might be though I obviously prefer just using 'woman' on the basis that I believe most women's gender 'identities' are based on their physical sex and those of trans men are not, so they could more easily accept not being specifically mentioned. They also earn male privilege in other parts of their lives.

The other problem with the pairing of women and trans men is that it won't stop there. We must then add nonbinary people to the list and then the list will start looking more and more like a list of abstract identities.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 27/10/2020 17:37

I'll probably get flamed for this but non-binary is silly.
You are either have one gender or the other like women & tw, men & tm.
You can't be both genders at the same time or have no gender.

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/10/2020 17:38

U mean sex right?

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 27/10/2020 18:01

Sex is a biological from your chromosomes.
Gender is a social construct & you are usually one or other e.g woman/tw or man/tm.

Deciding you are man gender (social construct) on Tuesday & Thursday but woman gender on Mon, Wed, Fri & no gender at the weekend is just daft & very self absorbed.
Plus it mocks those people who have gender dysphoria as well as people who's gender fits with their biological sex.
I'm beginning to think half the problem is not allowing people to dress, play (when children) & have interests (legal ones) that they want.
Why can't a biological man wear a dress, or make up, or paint nails but still play rugby with other blokes at the same time without being mocked? (Excuse my use of stereotypes)
What is so wrong with boys playing with dolls & girls playing 'war'?

So I can't see what is wrong with Tampax being labelled for women?
If men want to buy it either for the females in their life or just to stick it up their own arse without singing it room the rooftops they can.
Most people whatever gender they use aren't bothered about issue of Tampax saying woman on the box.
Only the militant self indulgent narrow thinking activists do.

I don't get my knickers in a twist if I buy razor blades advertised for men or I wear men's fragrance or deodorant.
Most people don't as they just get on with their lives.

Whatever next baby formula being labelled for people just because some adults like to drink it.
And don't start me on squash labelled 'for grown -ups'. You can drink any flavour of squash whatever your age.

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/10/2020 18:05

No mist of us but whatever we want without the need to be validated. Men buy tampons women buy mens razors imagine being so up yourself you think anyones going to think anything if you buying anything.

No one cares

No alarms go off if I buy massive tissues

But I guess its a side effect if being told they are so special day in ajd day out when in fact they are just another face in a very long queue in tesco
