Facemasks on for a trip to the Bluestocking

We haven't had a Bluestocking thread for fucking ages.

Anyone fancy a socially distanced, tables of no more than 6, Bluestocking?

The goat has been covid tested and the patriarchy busting canon polished up to remove all possible virus traces from its surface.

Remember, MN spans the globe, and it's always before the 10pm curfew somewhere.

Sad but true, Maud.

Just popping by for a morning coffee.

Hi! Not been in for ages. Hope everyone is keeping well
Pronouns: who/what/why Grin
I think mine are: he/her/theirs Grin
Been discussing pronouns a lot with dp as he did the sig block at work. He thinks it makes it easier for trans colleagues to feel safe. I think it puts unnecessary pressure on people who aren't out (trans people and GC people).

MaudTheInvincible · 21/10/2020 12:30

Saw a woman on Twitter stating that her pronouns are sex-based, like her oppression Halloween Grin

Isn't it in contravention of item 6f of the Yogyakarta Principles to insist on pronouns? It does assume a certain comfort.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 21/10/2020 12:57

I haven’t really been drinking since lockdown. Imbibing a chemical depressant didn’t seem like a smart move for me. But in honour of being at the Bluestocking I’ll have a nice aperol spritz with my lunch. Lovely

It’s / weird / to / try / to / control / how / people / talk / about / you / when / you’re / not / there

Ohh, look at all my pronouns!

CaraDuneRedux · 21/10/2020 21:37

Since I'm off the booze too, I'll have a nice elderflower pressé.

OP posts:
HecatesCats · 21/10/2020 21:52

I'm quite partial to a slug of elderflower presse in my G&T if you're cracking it open

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 21/10/2020 22:17

Ooo, not seen this place before. One of my newer peri symptoms is a reaction to alcohol, like hay fever. Halloween Angry I've tried quite a few with the same results, but am always willing to try and find the one which doesn't set me off. 👍. I'll have a bar tender's choice, please.

FemaleAndLearning · 21/10/2020 22:33

I've not drunk alcohol for many years now but I did love a Woo Woo cocktail back in the day!

When I take hay fever meds (liquid as most tablets have milk in them) I'm blasted back to the early 1990s, lovely memories.
Vodka, peach schnapps and cranberry juice.

FeckTheMagicDragon · 21/10/2020 22:48

I’m driving round looking for a car was with a hangover today. Totally worth it (even if I do end up with a Twitter ban). There are NO gas stations around here with a car wash. Only very expensive car wash only places, that you have to book. I’m going to buy a jet spray and a sponge . Might even set up my own car wash business. For women only (that might just be the hangover speaking).

FeckTheMagicDragon · 21/10/2020 22:49

Car Wash*

ChattyLion · 21/10/2020 23:20

I thought a Car Wash was going to be a cocktail.. Grin

ChattyLion · 21/10/2020 23:28

Well I have had a day of dealing with nonsense so I would just like one of those fizzy vitamin horse pills in water before bed please. I’ll think of a fancy name for it later.. Cheers all Brew

FeckTheMagicDragon · 22/10/2020 05:58

Ok the Car Wash cocktail I’ve just invented is Jack Daniels Honey Whiskey + Mikes Hard Lemonade (5% proof that I accidentally got drunk on at my first ever baseball match. I didn’t know that ‘hard’ meant alcoholic. I really enjoyed that game. No idea who won)

GrinitchSpinach · 22/10/2020 11:14

Feck, your cocktail sounds disgusting but your baseball anecdote has me giggling. I imagine one could put away quite a few cold, refreshing lemonades during nine innings on a hot day. 😂

For my British friends, if anyone’s ever able to visit the US again post-COVID, please note that this use of the word “hard” applies to cider here, too. We have apple cider which is just juice, a nice autumn treat for the whole family, and then there’s hard cider, which is very much only for grown-ups. The latter is not hugely popular, though I have started to see some craft brewing companies offering their own, so maybe it’s on the rise.

FeckTheMagicDragon · 22/10/2020 17:58

GrinitchSpinach - I had no gin in the house. The last of the Bombay Sapphire went on watching the presidential debate. I have no idea who won that either 😀

FeckTheMagicDragon · 22/10/2020 18:01

I’ve also washed half the mountain off my Jeep, hence the cocktail dubbed Car Wash. Now the Husband wants to drive down the mountain in it again. WIBU to LTB?

ErrolTheDragon · 22/10/2020 18:21

We learned the meaning of 'cider' in Pennsylvania via disappointment.Grin and then when we did come across somewhere serving 'hard cider' it was Williamsburg, in tiny quantities.

Just make him wash the car while you sit back and drink the cocktail.

Hello I'll have a ginger shot over crushed ice with lime and mint. It's been a loooong week and I've still got 2 days to go.
However my day was made today when one of the delivery drivers showed his real colours and is an ally. (Spotted me reading the Filia newsletter that his girlfriend gets, we went on to have a discussion of wokebatshittery and all things Harry Potter)

How's your day been?

Surely, you won, as you had gin! 😀
GrinitchSpinach · 22/10/2020 19:06

Feck, you're a more patient woman than I. I had to turn the presidential debate off despite the presence of a large bottle of Hendricks in the house.

I am rather proud of my long-distance diagnostic skills, though, because the first thing I said to my husband when the candidates walked out on stage was, "Wow, Trump looks like shit! I mean, even more than usual. He looks unwell." And then his covid was announced a couple of days later.

I endorse Errol's solution to your carwashing/LTB quandary.

GrinitchSpinach · 22/10/2020 19:25

ike What a great IRL conversation! I do find that lots of nice decent men grasp the issues really quickly---and haven't been socialised to second-guess their own judgment in the name of "kindness."

Surely, you won, as you had gin Danny speaks truth.

Is it wrong that I have bought an absolute mountain of Halloween candy for my children as compensation for not taking them trick-or-treating this year? Am storing it in the basement so they aren't tempted to break into it early, but the problem is when I go down to do the laundry the stash is sitting right there...

TheChampagneGalop · 22/10/2020 20:34

Aaah good to see that the Bluestocking has opened again. No champagne for me, but something calming please.

Ketamine?

*waves to all from a potential tier 3 distance.

Bit absent at the moment as littlest is potentially looking at a bone marrow transplant and a)a BMT during a global pandemic wasn’t on our to-do list.

and b) best donor match is a middle aged man in Germany and needs to be assessed for moving forward re: his own elevated Covid risk and German hospital availability in mind. Even importing bone marrow/stem cells could be difficult in pandemic circumstances and the one specialist lab we need to do genomic and exomic testing has been pretty much commandeered by the government.

(She’s not acutely ill, so not panicking too much, but if no pandemic we’d definitely head in that direction).

Middle seems to have completely desisted now and school is trying to evade handing over all relevant school records. We got an obviously lawyer-written response and they seem to be playing for time (possibly due to pending legal cases) but we won’t be disappearing quietly and making it easy for them. They and their (Stonewall and Mermaid unformed) policies have groomed her into a cross sex identity and we, as a family, wouldn’t have dared hold the line without you.

So grateful to each and every one of you, and Justine and Mumsnet as a whole.
