Not sure what to make of this to be honest.

[quote Iamanaubergine]From the GMB Members Staff Twitter today:

Our Branch has unanimously passed a motion to condemn the actions of Rosie Duffield MP, and express solidarity with our member who resigned.

We’ll be writing to
@labourwhips
and
@UKLabour
to request a formal investigation, & call for Rosie to resign as Chair of Women’s PLP.

Ah, the GMB, who were recently found to have a structural commitment to the sex-based abuse of women.

They're consistent. I'll give them that.

FairFriday · 15/10/2020 17:15

‘Passed a motion’ anyone else just think ‘yup. A big pile of poo’?

Kit19 · 15/10/2020 17:38

Just a reminder that an independent report found that the GMB was institutionally sexist

@InflamatoryWrit

if you are here Rosie, well done for standing up to the bullying

I second that

I do, too, but I have to say it feels like we're having a seance.

'If you can hear us, Rosie, knock three times'.

Anyway, OP, that's a PinkNews link!! And I clicked on it, bloody hell.

I bet that's gone down like a shit in a teapot chez Starmer.

ArabellaScott · 15/10/2020 20:12

I call on GMB to just bore itself out of existence with its wildly visible entrenched misogyny.

Thanks Kit. Some highlights:

The report's author, Karon Monaghan QC, said "bullying, misogyny, cronyism and sexual harassment are endemic".

Ms Monaghan said women were "underrepresented throughout the GMB's ranks", with branches "often organised in a way that deters women members' participation".

She added: "Fundamental change is required if the GMB is to meet its promise to women in the GMB and to women in society more widely."

Barbara Plant, who has been the GMB's national president since 2018, said the report made "sad and difficult reading".
She said: "On behalf of GMB, I apologise to all those who have experienced sexual harassment or bullying within the union.
"It's clear that real and lasting change is needed for us to become a safe and inclusive place for all."

The GMB tweet seems to argue that Duffield outed a member of her staff in social media? What is that all about?

Ok have I understood this right? They leap to defend a staff member’s risk of being savaged over social media but they don’t mention the reason that they think that could happen is that the staffer’s boss is currently being savaged over social media, by TRAs purely for having an opinion.
The glaring problem is that they haven’t condemned the online harassment and called for that to stop.. they just condemn the MP for recognising someone online, whose face is being used in a profile picture by another person?

It’s also implicitly drawing a completely mendacious equivalency between the disgusting behaviour of men’s sexual entitlement campaigners and gender critical feminists. Much like that ludicrous statement by Kier Starmer to the BBC.
This is not two equal sides behaving similarly, never has been. The rape and death threats, the harassment are made by men to women. They’ll do it to women in their own side just as freely if they step out of line.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 16/10/2020 08:16

Yeah basically in a tweet RD said that another person who was giving her shit had a photo of the 'resigner' (a picture in which the woman was wearing) as their profile picture, therefore she 'doxxed' her. I guess some people have the kind of tech where you can input a picture of a person and facial recognition will identify them, but she didn't reveal the woman's name, SM account or anything like that?

The misogynist like the TRAs, the GMB, Owen Jones (who has done another one of his pile ons on Twitter) have been baying for her blood ever since she committed the heinous crime of liking a tweet that said that only women have cervixes, so the tweet about the photo was a gift to them.

Really hope Keir stands firm against this absolutely grim batshittery. The last election proved that this Momentum minority led by Owen and Ash is nowhere near enough to win an election, Keir must know that appeasing that lot by sacking Rosie would make his party a laughing stock. It would be nice if he actually condemned the abuse she is getting though but that's obviously too much to ask.

highame · 16/10/2020 08:24

So, if Rosie does resign as chair of Women's PLP, which MtF gets the job, any ideas?

GMB love trans rights, they'll be able to say the sexism is all untrue because TWAW

ChattyLion · 16/10/2020 08:32

Just linking to Starmer comment for posterity.. so disappointing and misrepresents the perpetrators and the scale of what’s happening to women- death and rape threats are more than ‘toxic’ as well he knows, it’s happening to his female MPs. Shame on him.

ArabellaScott · 16/10/2020 09:29

This really beggars belief. I can't believe that people aren't standing up for Rosie Duffield, who has done nothing wrong. It's appalling. A witchhunt that is apparently sanctioned by everyone, she's just being thrown to the wolves.

FairFriday · 16/10/2020 09:36

I hope she is keeping a list of names.

Wasn’t the onion a fruit in this little public information film?

fatblackcatspaw · 16/10/2020 10:03

@CarolJenkyns

i think what i'm struggling with is that Rosie has said the criticism she's been getting for her beliefs is misogynistic, but then both people who quit her team are women
Because so many women esp young women are Handmaidens to the Patriarchy (still haven't worked out it won't protect them idiots)
Shedbuilder · 16/10/2020 16:37

I think there are quite a few young women who like to think of themselves as SJWs and see this as their fight. It's the only way I can explain all the intelligent, lefty, apparently feminist women (including lesbians) who are out there supporting men against women.

I've been in contact with my own MP about Rosie Duffield. I've made a point of contacting her every month by email, attaching items for her to read. She had a Zoom surgery the other day and I managed to get an appointment. It became clear that her staff had failed to pass on most of my emails — probably filed them in the bin. She has contacted me privately, without their knowledge, and wants to talk next week. I suspect she's not the only MP whose young, woke staff have been doing this. It's scandalous.

EwwSprouts · 16/10/2020 17:10

"The Labour leader’s response was limp. “No, I think we’ve got to improve the situation here. The Gender Recognition Act is a step in the right direction, it doesn’t go far enough."

They said it - limp. Does the man not have a backbone whatever side of the fence he's on?

What the hell. Shock

I can think of a great number of views I find unconscionable, but if I was an MP's staffer I would never abuse my position to intercept letters and emails promoting them.

It is not my right to prevent such views being heard from constituents.
