I bloody love this woman. Frankly, the BBC don't deserve her.

What a delicious piece! Plain-talking and clear.

BlackWaveComing · 03/10/2020 03:10

I enjoyed that.

Shame on the BBC.

HumphreyCobblers · 03/10/2020 03:24

That was great.

So pleased she is out and freely able to express herself.

The sidebar of shame nearly killed the archiving site.

Wow, that's blunter than I was expecting. How ridiculous that woman's hour lose a superb broadcaster is such a pathetic way.

PigeonToe · 03/10/2020 07:54

Fantastic. She is so brilliant at outlining it all clearly. But it sadly proves everything we suspected.

FindTheTruth · 03/10/2020 08:02

it became clear to me that it was time to move on and be free of the leash which, in recent years, had caused me to be what I can only describe as ‘cancelled’.

😭

BuffaloCauliflower · 03/10/2020 08:03

She’s so completely excellent. As a young woman (born just after she started on Woman’s Hour) she’s just the sort of role model I want and need.

testing987654321 · 03/10/2020 08:04

This is awful news. A woman whose job was about women has lost her job because she knows what a woman is.

BlueBrush · 03/10/2020 08:08

*A woman like me has knowledge, wisdom and experience. She was not in a BBC studio for any reason but to present the crucial issues of the day and elicit opinion from her guests, never broadcast her own.

But she has opinions — sometimes controversial ones — and she will not be silenced.*

Go Jenni!

FindTheTruth · 03/10/2020 08:08

At the BBC ...I was roundly ticked off publicly and informed that I would not be allowed to chair any discussions on the trans question or the proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act. I had lots of emails and tweets asking me why I had not been involved in this debate, as it was so important to Woman’s Hour listeners. You have the answer

Yes. I think many of us guessed that you were not allowed. Can't wait to see what you do next. And love that your first act, after your last show was to sign the petition in solidarity with JK Rowling

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/10/2020 08:13

Seems to me that the impartiality principle at the BBC is very far from impartially applied.

Serenschintte · 03/10/2020 08:19

It’s a good piece. Will be interesting to see what Jenny does next

highame · 03/10/2020 08:21

Looking forward to Jenni's new career Smile plus her influence in the HoL

LizzieSiddal · 03/10/2020 08:25

So she’s been earning under 100K until recently?? - she should sue the fucking pants off them!

They really don’t deserve her. And she was issued with a warning for taking about Brexit whilst Andrew Neil and Gary Lineker talk about this issue constantly in their Twitter feeds.

Again, she should sue them for Sex Discrimination.

LizzieSiddal · 03/10/2020 08:26

*talking

DaisiesandButtercups · 03/10/2020 08:30

I am so looking forward to hearing more from Jenni!

ErrolTheDragon · 03/10/2020 08:34

ThanksJenni

Has she done an MN webchat? I wonder if she'd be interested?

Cuntysnark · 03/10/2020 08:34

I’m so happy she’s not hanging about. I’ve written to her previously but now have no idea what address I can use. I’m going to use the daily mail for this one and hope they pass it on.

SophocIestheFox · 03/10/2020 08:38

That’s a good piece. I like the articulation of the issues around what “impartiality” does and should mean.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 03/10/2020 08:39

Great article except for the 'assigned at birth' bollocks. Sex is not assigned, it is observed.

Or is 'assigned' another word that has had its meaning changed?

Cwenthryth · 03/10/2020 08:44

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

Seems to me that the impartiality principle at the BBC is very far from impartially applied.
Bloody good point

And love that she’s wasting no time in making it very clear why the BBC have lost her.

Can’t wait to see what she does next!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/10/2020 08:47

I'd love to hear Jenni and Janice in conversation!

merrymouse · 03/10/2020 08:49

And she was issued with a warning for taking about Brexit whilst Andrew Neil and Gary Lineker talk about this issue constantly in their Twitter feeds.

To be fair, Gary Lineker doesn’t comment on politics on the BBC, but Andrew Neil was part of the BBC’s election night coverage.

Banning JM from covering the election because she wrote something uncontroversial about Europe doesn’t make sense.

queenofknives · 03/10/2020 09:03

Jenni Murray is bloody brilliant woman and her leaving WH feels like the end of an era. Her not being able to talk about women's issues and women's rights on women's hour is almost unbelievable and it must have been so frustrating to be in that position. Good for her for speaking up and being the leader she has always been.
