The awful trend on Twitter

Hi, I don't post often, but I've seen the awful twitter trend today in regard to J K Rowling, I just feel so scared and defeated about women's rights, why are more people not up in arms and defending us? I also fear for her and women's safety, as some of these TRA's seem really unhinged.

Ah! That He/Himmer retweeted Frankie Boyle - looks well amusing now

Shoutout to rightwing commentators, waking up in the morning not knowing what mad shit they're going to have to defend

DeliciouslyFemale · 15/09/2020 09:51

Nick Cohen, who has read the book, says it isn't transphobic but is feminist. Tweet is a plot teaser, rather than a spoiler I think but beware if you prefer to avoid any hints:

Christ! So many men on that thread, discussing women’s rights and debating if they have a right to their feelings. Men discussing women and telling them whether or not they’re transphobic for not agreeing with the men about what women are. It never fucking changes.

Ah Frankie Boyle. Another offensive misogynist, ableist shitbag who "supports trans people". They think we're fuxking stupid.

[quote nettie434]Personally I was thrilled to get my pre-ordered copy downloaded. Very much looking forward to actually reading it (rather than criticising something I haven't read at all.)

The same happened with the John Boyle book about the boy with a trans sibling. Apparently the book is about 800 pages and is only published today so at this stage the only people that can have read it are those with review copies or who worked on the book's publication.

Nick Cohen, who has read the book, says it isn't transphobic but is feminist. Tweet is a plot teaser, rather than a spoiler I think but beware if you prefer to avoid any hints:

Just looked and saw the person SunsetBeetch refers to and his 'lived experience'. The best response to which was:
"I suggest you and other male people reflect on your absence of lived experience as a woman, and defer to those of us who have that experience when womanhood is being discussed."
which says it all.

I'm not remotely surprised to see people criticizing something they haven't read on twitter I'm starting to think a lot of them don't bother reading anything longer than a few tweets. They almost certainly don't read the articles and papers they spam people with to 'educate themselves'.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/09/2020 09:53

Neville ‘I support sex workers and LGBT people’ Southall has now weighed in on it with a sex-based insult (‘wicked witch’) about JKR. Why do these woke types even bother to include the L in the LGBT abbreviation any more when they’re so plainly misogynistic?

The adult babies takeover is off

Thehollyandtheirony · 15/09/2020 09:55

Does anyone know when it's out in paperback? I don't want a hardback copy but I can't wait to read it. I enjoyed the first four books so much.

Siablue · 15/09/2020 10:02

I am very much looking forward to reading the new Srike book. Some people are nuts unless Frankie Boyle has publicly apologised for all the offensive ‘jokes’ and removed them all from streaming platforms I will not care what he has to say. The correct term for these abusive men (thank you ladies of lipstick Alley) is WERMs women exclusionary radical mysoginists.

I have always loved Robbie Coltrane I am pleased he has stuck up for JKR.

We will have a lot of new women along soon. The behaviour of these people is going to tip a lot of people over the edge.

merrymouse · 15/09/2020 10:05

The book is more than 900 pages long, so its very unlikely that any of the people accusing JKR of transphobia have actually read it.

JamieLeeCurtains · 15/09/2020 10:06

Twitter is such a stupid shitpit.

FloralBunting · 15/09/2020 10:12

I'm sure I read someone suggest to the eager TRA cancel types that they buy all her books on kindle format and then destroy their kindle, just to teach her a lesson. I know it was a joke, but it's also a very good metaphor for the winsome effectiveness of their behaviour in either convincing fence sitters or punishing the wicked woman.

Keep on keeping on TRAs. It's because of you that I get to take a few days off. Cheers.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/09/2020 10:14

Get it on your phone, then throw your phone down the toilet. Stick it to JK Rowling!

ThinEndoftheWedge · 15/09/2020 10:14

Paris Lees:
‘JKR’s new book’s about a trans write serial killer. Meanwhile over in the real work the number of transpeople in Brazil has risen by 70% this past year, young transwomen are left to burn in cars and men who kill us (for being trans) are pardoned and sent home’.

Has PL just blamed JKR for contributing the murders committed by men? Such killings PL mentions are tragic - but stop making out that JKR sticking up for reality and woman’s rights has anything to do with it - particularly when there is an epidemic of abuse on women and girls in this country (and in Brazil). It is offensive and sadly utterly predictable.

I am looking forward to buying the book! I have only just started buying JKR novels!

Winesalot · 15/09/2020 10:15

And here is Lees pointing out that the Brazil stats. They are horrific stats.... however it can also be pointed out how many women are also being attacked, killed and raped by males (because the Brazil stats seem to be dominated by male on male killings) in horrific numbers around the world. And some of those attacks are by males who identify as women. To deny this is deliberate blindness.

The awful trend on Twitter
Winesalot · 15/09/2020 10:15

X post thin

Winesalot · 15/09/2020 10:16

It is dogged denial isn’t it!

Floisme · 15/09/2020 10:17

God dammit, I'm not even a massive fan of the Strike books - and especially not at 900 pages - but now I feel compelled to buy it just to give Twitter the finger.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 15/09/2020 10:19

Paris has a conviction for a violent crime.

So, you know, that's all a bit rich.

bellinisurge · 15/09/2020 10:22

Because it never happens that a man pretends to be a woman to get access to women to commit acts of violence.

caughtalightsneeze · 15/09/2020 10:23

JKR writes a crime novel presumably set in the UK and that's contributing to the murder of transwomen in Brazil? But of a stretch.

Also interesting to note that the person banging on about violence against transwomen has in fact got a criminal record for violence. Whereas, to the best of my knowledge, JKR does not. Although she has been a victim of violence.

What messed up world do we live in where JKR is considered by many to be the villain.

merrymouse · 15/09/2020 10:25

If the book is honestly just about a 'transvestite serial killer', its odd that the Guardian didn't mention this in the review.

SunsetBeetch · 15/09/2020 10:25

On twitter, the adult baby takeover is never off.

Datun · 15/09/2020 10:28

You've got activists demanding that the Oscars make sure trans people are proportionally represented, but when JK does it they fly off the handle.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 15/09/2020 10:29

My pre-ordered copy is due to be delivered today. I didn't know about the cross-dressing plotline when I ordered it, but it would have made no difference.

Nice to see Robbie Coltrane supporting JKR although he understandably doesn't want to get too involved because of the inevitable avalanche of hate.
www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/robbie-coltrane-jk-rowling-transphobic-tweet-hagrid-troubled-blood-b445069.html

Twitter is a swirling cesspit of hate but I suppose at least it helps to identify the misogynists and the criminally unstable.
