The awful trend on Twitter

Hi, I don't post often, but I've seen the awful twitter trend today in regard to J K Rowling, I just feel so scared and defeated about women's rights, why are more people not up in arms and defending us? I also fear for her and women's safety, as some of these TRA's seem really unhinged.

The fear of Rowling is off the scale. Let's remember that. This is all fueled by fear: because they know a) she is right and b) they can't cancel her and c) she is loved, read, and listened to by people whose heads are screwed on tightly.

And if they read the book they will see that she is a woman who know precisely how different kinds of predatory men operate.

SerenityNowwwww · 16/09/2020 13:52

It’s over 280 characters and doesn’t have anime pictures - they won’t read it.

Their attention spans wouldn’t be long enough.

Goodreads is pure poison.

I'm an author and I stay well clear of it, but have always felt a bit guilty for not engaging there. Not after this. They have undermined any credibility they have as a book review platform by allowing unsubstantiated abuse like this, from unhinged people who haven't read the novel, to stand.

I occasionally post on Celebitchy, an American gossip blog.

Predictably, they think JK Rowling is an evil transphobe and they have added a post on her mean book about a 'transvestite serial killer'.
Comments are calling her trash, hateful etc

I wrote that it wasn't even the plot of the book- as people would have realised if they had waited til it was published and actually read it and, and that if anyone had written it we wouldn't have heard a word about transphobia.

I also pointed out that the hashtag was horrific and that threatening rape and death on anyone was unacceptable.

Not only was my post unpublished but I appear to have been banned from the site. Wow.

ArabellaScott · 16/09/2020 14:04

Hey, I just went on goodreads and saw a friend had marked JKR's novel 'to read' - I'd have put money on her being woke as all get out! Brilliant! Grin

Just a quick reminder about Benjamin Butterworth's past actions.

Take your own measure of this mans moral compass...

But it’s so so very very funny... saying you are black because, y’know, your stepmum is black... Like saying you are a man because your dad is a man.

What a brass neck!

JamieLeeCurtains · 16/09/2020 14:13

Benjamin Butterworth reminds me of Adrian Whatshisface.

SerenityNowwwww · 16/09/2020 14:14

I dunno. They both remind me of a beloved Viz character though...

Tanith · 16/09/2020 14:36

"Benjamin Butterworth reminds me of Adrian Whatshisface."

It's the over-articulation. I thought the same.

And I thought I heard George Galloway call him Benjamin Bunny, but someone said it was Button Blush

AbsintheFriends · 16/09/2020 14:44

Benjamin Butterworth reminds me of Adrian Whatshisface.

Mole?

SerenityNowwwww · 16/09/2020 14:44

Bunny! Haha. Reminds me of the Rabbi Blue who used to say that it amused me when he was called Rabbit Blue...

JamieLeeCurtains · 16/09/2020 15:07

@AbsintheFriends

Benjamin Butterworth reminds me of Adrian Whatshisface.

Mole?

Ha Smile

I don't like typing his full name because apparently he has himself on some sort of google 'high alert' app looking out for every mention of his own name online (as you do).

Plus I can't spell it.

DeRigueurMortis · 16/09/2020 15:10

@JamieLeeCurtains

Benjamin Butterworth reminds me of Adrian Whatshisface.

Indeed.

As my dear pithy grandmother would have said "heavy on smarm, lacking in charm"....

They are definitely "of a type".

Stellwagen · 16/09/2020 15:16

My kids read the harry potter books but we got them from the library. JK Rowling has enough money we thought. But it's not just about the money anymore.

Normally I don't read books featuring serial killers and without all this nonsense I wouldn't have read it, never mind bought it. It arrives tomorrow.

Nice one Benjamin!

DeRigueurMortis · 16/09/2020 15:18

Ah the "Voldermort" alert....Wink what irony...

Perhaps we ought to refer to him as "the pinky who shall not be named" or "Pink Rights Inclusionary Campaign Kickstarter" .

Sorry that second one is a bit of a mouthful - wonder if we could somehow shorten it?

JamieLeeCurtains · 16/09/2020 15:20

Yes, @Tanith, that's it.

Why do.they.do.that.?

@ SkaraBrae I comment (or use to) over at Celebitchy too, it's where I go to turn my brain off and read mindless gossip, I quit after the last write up on JKR, for self declared feminists they sure hate women.

imhereforthesanity · 16/09/2020 20:45

@DeRigueurMortis is that true about him, that he identifies as black? I watched the good morning Britain thing, weird old world where Piers speak more sense!

I've no idea how he identifies but this thread gives more detail.

This is just. I have no words. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3209406-this-is-just-i-have-no-words

I thought it was the Prick Mews editor to start with. He just looks like Ade Harrop, Jr, doesn't he?
