The usual inability to believe that a female or child could really have a strong feeling of distress or a problem with accepting males into their spaces

Some people do not see girls (or women) as human beings, with human feelings, agency or the ability to speak for themselves. We're a kind of template to them, with certain hairstyles, empty, smily faces, a collection of simpering giggles and no actual thoughts of our own. Perhaps this is why there is so much rage when women/girls actually do speak - must be like having a dolly that suddenly starts refusing to play along.

ArabellaScott · 06/09/2020 20:16

TheBigBad, I'm really glad to hear the girl is getting support and respect. Very sensible to stay well out of the public eye. Bravo to her, and all my very best wishes.

2fallsagain · 06/09/2020 21:02

@Floisme

Thanks for that 2falls and sorry if I started something there, it was not my intention. But it's very reassuring to know. And also very humbling to hear about so much courage a teenager.
No need to apologise. It gave me an opportunity to clarify a few things.
UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 06/09/2020 22:04

Thank you for the explanation to my naive questions.

This is great, but there is such a long way to go Stonewall/TRAs have inveigled themselves into every corner and crevice of society and policy it's going to take years to dismantle.

And they won't go without a fight.

Sorry not to be more optimistic, I'm so tired of it all.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/09/2020 08:41

The Times today has a piece covering this and Ann Sinnott's challenge to the EHRC together.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 07/09/2020 08:56

That article from the Times is very clear, and it includes the phrase 'Stonewall, the campaign group for trans rights' which is completely accurate, but I'm sure will be complained about.

ArabellaScott · 07/09/2020 09:03

Thanks for the share. Good, clear and precise article. Children could be guilty of criminal behaviour because of their thoughts should be screaming alarm bells up and down the country.

Whatwouldscullydo · 07/09/2020 10:33

Good article.

Although I do wish it had elaborated with the thoughts and reaction thing.

He a bit more honest which is they are taught that approaching someone they believe shouldn't be in their soace could he classed as outing them amd ergo a hate crime.

No room for people to think they are just going to be stopped from bullying a child which many will of course agree with.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/09/2020 10:44

I'd guess a lot of readers can see that what's been happening in the last few years is institutionalised bullying of girls and women.

ArabellaScott · 07/09/2020 10:48

institutionalised bullying of girls and women.

Yep.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/09/2020 10:52

The comments are starting to show up on that piece now - overwhelmingly supportive.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 07/09/2020 11:01

Yay my comment was actually published this time! I have about a 50:50 success rate even though I am scrupulously polite and factually accurate.

nauticant · 07/09/2020 11:53

That's my experience too UnexpectedItem. A surprising number of my very mild comments, referring to factual things, even supported by links to mainstream websites, are either not permitted to appear or appear then get deleted. When I have a run of deleted comments I do wonder about keeping my Times subscription.

I would contest the use of the word ‘rights’ - they mean privileges
Redshoeblueshoe · 07/09/2020 12:27

Great comments AND a link to the fundraiser Star

JamieLeeCurtains · 07/09/2020 12:29

Indeed, what do Stonewall mean by 'trans rights'? Male supremacy? Who knows.

@nauticant I think if you just comment on trans articles you probably get a flag and less likelihood of getting published. Try to write asinine crap under a bunch of articles to dilute the evidence of your clear thinking-ness Wink

Kantastic · 07/09/2020 12:34

One needs to acknowledge a dichotomy with Transgender issues. Real TG, those who struggled with identity for years, or Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria, alias silly girls.

This is an interesting rhetorical move in the Times comments. As the detransitioning stories continue to emerge will TRAs eventually resort to throwing "trans men" under the bus?

Or rather, desist from pushing them under the bus in the first place. And that comment you've quoted misses the fact that nowadays 'real tg' are liable to be vilified by the trans activists as 'truscum', in favour of blokes who claim to be 'trans' for a variety of other reasons.
Kantastic · 07/09/2020 12:51

Or rather, desist from pushing them under the bus in the first place.

That is a better way of putting it, thank you.

I'm not sure whether the commenter has missed that point about "real TG" or whether they're deliberately co-opting "real TG" to cover all trans people-with-penises. I would guess from the use of "TG" rather than "TS" it's the latter.

osprey24 · 07/09/2020 13:11

Is jo march who, in the comments, explained a lot of detail of Stonewalls actions a Mums Netter? If you are Jo, thank you very much, I think you have converted some Times readers today, well done.

osprey24 · 07/09/2020 13:12

Sorry Jo, I did not mean to use lower case for your name. Blush

McDuffy · 07/09/2020 13:15

I always look for Jo March's comments!

MichelleofzeResistance · 07/09/2020 13:26

Another Jo March fan here.

midclegs · 07/09/2020 13:29

I also love Jo March. I am reasonably sure she is a MumsNetter as well as bring a champion writer elsewhere. Jo, you always so measured and respectful even when you are correcting my mistakes Grin
