but rape hasn't gone up
How clueless can a person be? Women are afraid because the rates of sexual assault are so high. Clearly the concept of safeguarding entirely passes some people by.

Let me put it into block caps for you:
IF YOU PROVIDE A LOOPHOLE, A PREDATOR WILL USE IT.
('predator', note. Not 'transwoman'. A transwoman might be a predator, but a predator can masquerade as a transwoman.)

That's why we have such detailed safeguarding procedures in the school where I work. Even a doddery old lady can't come in and hear readers, even if she has a grandchild in the school, even if she is well known in the community, even if she's never going to be in a room alone with a child where she's guaranteed that no one will just walk in, without a records check.

So why the fuck, that being the case, am I supposed to happy that my teenaged daughter -who has already been sexually assaulted, very distressingly, in a location where she should have been safe - should now be worried that if she reports a bloke in the ladies, she might be accused of being a bigot?

Quaagars · 30/08/2020 18:12

Or they come along like sweetespresso and bleat at women to be kind as that’s all they’ve really got

Or maybe it's "not all they've got" but people have got absolutely pig sick of trying to "debate" "discuss" on here as it's not possible.
I saw Nigella's tweet, it wasn't even offensive, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about - all she did was tweet saying something like "a voice of calm" - it was literally that and an article.
A non anti trans article for once. There's plenty of anti ones in the media, so ones from other voices just balances it a bit - which to me is a good thing.

Why is it not possible?

Exactly. I’m DBS checked, I work in a school. I don’t get to wander around my daughter’s school and I understand the need for that. I don’t get angry about it and wave proof of my safety in the head’s face.
RedtreesRedtrees · 30/08/2020 18:22

Let’s talk more about JKR. She’s amazing 💕

yourhairiswinterfire · 30/08/2020 18:22

If the other side has such good arguments - where are they?

Like Freddy McConnell on Twitter a few days ago asking JKR and Suzanne Moore where this nuanced debate can take place, and he can't wait because he's well 'rehearsed'.

He then sets out a veeery long list of things that we shouldn't actually be allowed to talk about. 🤦‍♀️ Because this is distressing for trans people's mental health, and it's THEIR LIVES we're talking about here-whereas the mental health impact on women and THEIR LIVES don't seem to be much of a concern for anyone Hmm

Quaagars · 30/08/2020 18:23

Not comparable. You don't need to be DBS checked to go to the bog.
Going by that logic EVERYONE should be DBS checked before taking a wee as we aren't sure who is safe or not in there, male or female, just like in a school.

Delphinium20 · 30/08/2020 18:31

@MichelleofzeResistance Well said! It's so easy to get likes when you stand up for well-connected, vocally oppressed groups who share your politics. Vulnerable women often live within conservative political cultures and they don't have the social media access nor clout to "like" you for championing them. It's the voiceless women and children that should inspire our feminism-not the stylish in-crowd.

SoManyActivities · 30/08/2020 18:33

No, we don't DBS check everyone using a bog because that would be stupid.

What we do do, is have sex segregated toilets, which men, even the men who are lovely and are not a danger to women, aren't supposed to use.

Is it perfect and risk free? No, of course not. Neither are DBS checks.

But the alternative is to simply do away with the safeguarding aspect of toilets altogether and make them mixed sex, with any male who says he is female being allowed access.

Which is akin to removing DBS checks because 'we should just take people at their word and also some people will slip through the net anyway so we might as well do away with the entire safeguarding thing altogether'

Kit19 · 30/08/2020 18:37

What about prisons then quaagars? Should fully intact TW be imprisoned with women? Or in women’s refuges? Would it not be better for TW to have their own spaces?

What about TW playing rugby against women? is that ok? or TW taking places on programmes designed to improve the representation/balance of women in professional spheres? Is that ok?

Why have you cut out the bit of Grumpy’s post I was replying to?

RedtreesRedtrees · 30/08/2020 18:39

Good point. What about a prison inmates rugby team. Which toilets should they use?

Quaagars · 30/08/2020 18:40

Why have you cut out the bit of Grumpy’s post I was replying to?

I was making my own point, nothing to do with yours which is why I quoted the bits relevant to mine.

yourhairiswinterfire · 30/08/2020 18:42

Whichever one matches their biological sex, obvs. 🤓

PheasantPlucker1 · 30/08/2020 18:43

It is impossible to debate or discuss, because it makes no sense.

If sex isnt real, why the hell are cross sex hormones and surgery being funded by the NHS?

If women are stupid not wanting to share with males, why cant transwomen share with males?

If spaces are to be segregated by gender why are there no spaces available for the overwhelming majority of the population who have no gender?

Its all so contradictary, there is no argument other than telling us to stfu and be kind.

RedtreesRedtrees · 30/08/2020 18:45

Problem solved!

Your GC stance didn't last long. I was so convinced too.
RedtreesRedtrees · 30/08/2020 18:49

Errr I just agreed with the GC post

RedtreesRedtrees · 30/08/2020 18:50

But please can we get back on to JKR. She’s such an inspiration 💕

yourhairiswinterfire · 30/08/2020 18:52

😂

This is why they won't discuss anything. They're not mature enough. They'd get their arses handed right back to them within the first 5 minutes.

Not much need to quote me then, was there?
RedtreesRedtrees · 30/08/2020 18:55

The one thing we know about most GC people is they’re mature.

DialSquare · 30/08/2020 18:55

Apologies. I thought you were talking about us just shutting up and be kind. But if you are agreeing that gender ideology makes no sense so is impossible to discuss then I agree. So I look forward to your contributions to this board going forward. I'm sure you won't change your mind now you've embraced the full GC viewpoint.
