Obviously not, but the focus here should be on amateur sport, not the 0.0001% represented by the sportsmen and women you highlight. Can they compete at the Wimbledon final? Almost certainly not. Can they compete at a local tennis club? Almost certainly yes.

Oh and to add, being amateur doesn’t change the male to female physical advantages and size differences, so would still make contact sport for female bodies against male bodies dangerous, and in worse case life changing injuries can occur.

I am sure no one with a real sense of sportsmanlike behavior would want to be responsible for the latter.

Exactly, humpty. Amateur or otherwise, male bodies can’t safely be accommodated in women’s rugby or any other contact sport, and they can’t fairly be accommodated in any sex segregated sport. I’ve only ever competed in my sports as an amateur, so why does my right to access fair sport on a level playing field matter less than a transwoman’s?

I'm female and I compete at amateur level in mixed martial arts. I spar against males, but every one of those males, even the complete beginners, could seriously injure me - in fact it's more likely at amateur level because they will use strength over technique.

We already have so few women in the sport because we have nobody to train with (I have 2 other females who aren't even in my weight class - oh and weight classes! What are they for eh? To discriminate against the overweight? Or because safety and fairness?) there's no way I'm getting in the cage with someone who was born male, because I don't want to be paralysed or brain damaged, which can happen at any level.

Having sparred with teenaged boys who haven't even completed puberty yet I can tell you that testosterone is a terrifyingly powerful indicator of how much damage I will sustain.

I am reading this thread while catching up with Ross Tucker’s tweets. There is so denial going on with both it feels a little surreal.

And in both it seems to come down to feelings.

Because a person can make decisions about medicalised transition in the light of their sports participation. Just like some sportspeople have to make hard decisions about their own treatments in regards to what is considered anticompetitive. Regardless of the level - social, amateur or elite.

If your choice of treatment prevents you from participating in a sport that you are passionate about, the choice of what you have done to your body as an adult has been yours.

There are mixed sex sports to go play or independent pursuits that can be done in mixed groups.
