Derailing even. Bloody phone.

Can we discuss JK?

Yes please. I remember a series (or was it a one off?) based on a JK Rowling book-it involved a social worker, can't remember what it was called, unfortunately. I could just Google it, but I'm not going to miss an opportunity to discuss JKR's work Grin

Anyone know the name? Or read the book on which it was based-is it worth a read?

yourhairiswinterfire · 30/08/2020 20:07

Derailing even. Bloody phone.

I wouldn't worry about derailing. This thread was supposed to be about Nigella Grin I think we forgot about her 8 pages ago!

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 30/08/2020 20:07

This encapsulates the unfairness for me. This is being driven white men for the most part. That well known oppressed group.

Was it??

God I should really check before i post

It boils my blood. They have the power to silence women across various social media platforms, defund rape crisis centres, get women fired for frankly ridiculous reasons, take jobs that are supposed to be reserved for women...how is that oppression? Do they know what oppression even means?

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 30/08/2020 20:16

It's what they do to other people.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 30/08/2020 20:17

And then they DARVO.

DialSquare · 30/08/2020 20:19

@RedtreesRedtrees

What happens now the non-GC people have left the thread? Do we just carry on making the same points we always make? Or perhaps could discuss our favourite work of fiction by JKR. She’s incredible!
I love her and her books. Now let's talk about the women and girls who will be excluded by opening up female single sex spaces to males. Now that you are GC, are you as angry as we all are regarding this (one of many) issue with gender ideology?
Quaagars · 30/08/2020 20:19

I love how she is conducting herself on twitter

It is a bit weird though how it's a mix of look at the lovely Ickabogs and little Jonny has such a nice drawing, then the next tweet might be one of a rant about trans people and women's rights.
I say this as a HP fan

yourhairiswinterfire · 30/08/2020 20:23

I don't think she comes across as ranting at all. She comes across as calm, and seems genuinely sympathetic to all sides involved.

DialSquare · 30/08/2020 20:26

Rant? Fuck me. You'd have had a heart attack if you ever heard my Grandad. You don't know what a rant is if you took her articulate and consisted words as one.

PheasantPlucker1 · 30/08/2020 20:26

Talking about the many women and girls who will be excluded from public spaces by the TRAs makes them look bad, as if they didnt care about women and children at all.
Making them look bad makes them feel bad.

Which isnt kind.

So I think its preferred that we dont speak about women or children at all.

DialSquare · 30/08/2020 20:27

Consisted = considered

Yes. But as Redtrees is now GC, surely she would also agree with this.
PheasantPlucker1 · 30/08/2020 20:30

Quaagers I follow JK and can assure you she hasnt posted any rants about trans people, nor can you find one.

As youre such a HP fan can you let us know which house the liars got sent too? Grin

That's probably The Casual Vacancy.

I loved the book, couldn't put it down. Thought it was much better writing than Harry Potter.

But reviews are mixed, loads of people seem to hate it.

MichelleofzeResistance · 30/08/2020 20:33

Honestly, there is so much fear in this thread

………..….. are you kidding me?

Posters have pointed out the consequences of this for female people - the ones you're hand waving away or refusing to talk about (if we don't look at it I promise you it won't stop existing), and now implying how silly women are to mind...

about women who have no public toilet access and are back to the bladder leash in Victorian times because toilets are there, but not for them because males need to have all the choices
who are stuck in violent, dangerous homes or living rough because refuges are there but they can't access them because males need to have all the choices
who are vulnerable and trapped in prisons sharing communal showers and spaces with male serial rapists with a rap sheet of devastated, badly injured women behind them, because males need to have all the choices

How long do I have to go on? I find this fucking terrifying, that seems to me a wholly sensible, sane reaction to the above.

It's that misquote of Kipling: if you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs..... then you haven't fully grasped the situation.

Rules of misogyny 10 and 12. Any others? I often don't spot them all.

Thanks Isabelle. I think I'll give it a try before I dive into the Strike ones.

PheasantPlucker1 · 30/08/2020 20:43

Rule #3 as well!

Women speaking for themselves are hateful.

It does not matter if women have no loos, no changing rooms, no sports teams, no representation in parliament.

It makes men feel bad to be reminded of it, so just be kind
