Lush Edinburgh say they wouldn't serve anyone in "woman" T-shirt

Apparently some stickers found their way onto the Lush Edinburgh storefront causing horror and consternation on Princes St this morning. They are too awful to be shared, obviously, but clearly they carried some message of hateful bigotry - or biological fact as it used to be known.

Anyway, staff on the thread are letting it be known that anyone wearing a T-shirt carrying the dictionary definition of a woman would not be served - haven't seen a comment on what would happen if it said 'I ❤️ JKR'. Not sure how legal that is.

@BaronessWrongCrowd Yes, if Lush have indeed said this, then it very much sounds like discrimination on the basis of sex.

CasuallyMasculine · 04/08/2020 09:06

@fatblackcatspaw

it says Keep Prisons Single Sex.... I mean all those Lush staff will need months and months ouf counselling now
So Posie was right when she said “Everything is Transphobic”.

@Skyliner001

Love Lush stuff 💙❤️💛
Overpriced products aside, what do you think of their “student politics” business model?
scalliondays · 04/08/2020 09:09

Lush isn't my cup of tea but my teenage daughter is partial to a shampoo bar or bathbomb - no more however as I can't deny my obviously bigoted view that my life has been shaped by my biology.... Interestingly she and her friends also know there are 2 sexes so I don't see this as a good business model for Lush once the current woke trend passes.

Morgane Oger and Lush need I say any more

Totally agree, DanceLikeEmmaGoldman.
Seems to me that buying locally from an eco friendly small business is far more genuinely socially useful than buying from a big chain that attempts to trade on its virtue through exclusion while profiteering.
This one is near me - twee name but lovely stuff.

fatblackcatspaw · 04/08/2020 09:16

btw during covid with the extra handwashing my hands were developing dry patches which would not go away. I swapped to woman made goats milk soap from here and my hands are now FINE. carolmcmillansoaps.co.uk/

Judging from comments here on problems with thrush, perhaps they should label their products as 'Not tested on vaginas'.

That way they can be avoided by people they are not intended for.

ProbablyFault · 04/08/2020 09:21

Lush:

All welcome
(apart from women, obvs)

StillNotAGirl · 04/08/2020 09:30

@SophocIestheFox

Dammit, I don’t have any truck with the thrush bombs side of the business, but ultrabland face wash and skindrink moisturiser are the only things that my sensitive skin will tolerate. Anyone any ideas for alternatives?
Try MooGoo products SophoclestheFox I've been buying them for my mother who has eczema on her face and she's found them very soothing.
Sexnotgender · 04/08/2020 09:32

MooGoo is excellent.

BuffysBigSister · 04/08/2020 09:32

I'm allergic to Lush - now even more so! I have been buying Dook soap (dookofedinburgh.com) which seems like a great alternative to Lush Edinburgh. I buy from a wee gift shop. It's not cheap but it's a treat for myself and means I am supporting small local businesses.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/08/2020 09:35

DH gets bad eczema on his hands, glycerine soap from the local farmers is the one sort he's tried which doesn't exacerbate it. Obviously they're doing phone sales now.

Do they really think that their core market of young women actually don’t believe in biology or woman’s rights? Who is running this circus? (Sorry that’s an insult to circuses).

Soubriquet · 04/08/2020 09:38

It looks like this was the sticker that “targeted” lush

I used to love buying from them. Especially their comfort bubble bath

I guess I’ll have to go without

They are sooo fucking smug. Can’t wait till they tank.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 04/08/2020 09:40

What would happen if a man goes in wearing a tshirt that says, “Man: adult human male”?

Oh my gosh, how dreadful! Somebody bring the smelling salts!

SerenityNowwwww · 04/08/2020 09:42

The staff all probably go and lock themselves in the staff safe room and start tweeting.

AvocadoBathroom · 04/08/2020 09:42

I used to work at Lush. Poor quality control, bath bombs that are so full of crap they give you thrush, terrible management, dirty produce. Princes Street Lush can't afford to be dicks about this.

CasuallyMasculine · 04/08/2020 09:43

Do they really think that their core market of young women actually don’t believe in biology or woman’s rights?

Sadly, they may believe, but they don’t dare say.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 04/08/2020 09:45

I popped in there a couple of weeks ago to buy a treat for DD as she likes lush. I picked up a box that contained 2 bath bombs and 2 bubble bars, and a lip scrub for me. Couldn’t see a price label. Took it to the till and it was £28! Felt like I had to pay because I’d touched everything.

Wish I had been wearing a woman tshirt so I wouldn’t have had to pay!

CasuallyMasculine · 04/08/2020 09:46

Thanks to everyone posting alternatives to Lush - I’ve got a whole directory of them now!

Skyliner001 · 04/08/2020 09:49

@fatblackcatspaw

OOOH UPDATE I HAVE A PICTURE OF THE HORRIFIC TRANSPHOBIC STICKER !!!
Source please?

I've bought a couple of soaps from Dook of Edinburgh. Lovely as a treat or a gift given the price tag, but always nice to support small businesses. I love wandering around Sumnerhall during one of the Christmas or festival fairs and leaving with a bag full of stuff. Smile
