"Women's" Cricket; Kent CC squad including a man

Kent County Cricket has yet again, even after protests last year, awarded a squad place to Maxine Blythin.
For those who don't know Maxine, they are a transgender woman, who doesn't live 'fully as a woman', has had no surgery nor reduced their testosterone levels. Maxine was, nonetheless, awarded the Kent County Cricket Woman's Player of the Year for 2019.

Last year, Maxine also enjoyed playing as Max on alternate weekend days in a mediocre men's team.
Let's compare stats for 2019, as Max playing as a Man vs 'Woman'':

Chesham Second XI men's team (mediocre village team):
8 matches, 79 runs in total, highest score 44, average 13.16

Kent women's county cricket team (semi-pro women's team, earning £££s):
8 matches, 629 runs in total, highest score 152*, average 104.83

Crystal clear proof that men competing in women's sports is NOT fair.

This needs some loud protests from those who care about women's sports.

It's not so easy to get the news out:

EdgeOfACoin · 31/07/2020 14:06

That's shocking. How can this be allowed?

gardenbird48 · 31/07/2020 14:07

I can’t believe Maxine doesn’t even identify as a woman full time! I struggle to reconcile this with the concept of dysphoria - how can you have gender dysphoria yet identify as a man some of the time? Are there any other body dysphoria conditions that are part time? How can someone be trans without dysphoria?

timetest · 31/07/2020 14:09

I thought Maxine was intersex.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 31/07/2020 14:10

It's all bullshit.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 31/07/2020 14:12

So a woman cricketer loses out on a county team place in favour of a man self identifying as a woman. And this is allegedly progress in women's sport.

ncGCFeminist · 31/07/2020 14:22

@timetest

I thought Maxine was intersex.
Intersex isn't a 3rd sex, Maxine is either male or female. I'd suggest Maxine has enjoyed much much more testosterone than the average woman has given those stats above.

I’m not defending Maxine but I thought the argument was Maxine never went through male puberty and didn’t have male levels of testosterone. I completely agree males have no place in women’s sport.

OvaHere · 31/07/2020 14:36

Maxine I imagine can claim whatever the hell they like in this climate. It's appalling that this is allowed.

I'm sure at the moment Kent think it's great having a socially approved way to cheat but when all the teams start doing it it's going to be a mess and the women that support it now will eventually realise how they've been used and screwed over.

Campervan69 · 31/07/2020 14:38

A man with low testosterone is still not a woman.

Datun · 31/07/2020 14:44

Of course. Women's teams will be made up largely of men who identify as women. And women will be nowhere.

The fact that people can't see this, or think that it's fine in principle, as long as it's only one, or two, is the very definition of misogyny.

ChubbyPigeon · 31/07/2020 14:46

I went to school with maxine (have even played cricket with them) they are well over 6 ft tall -Id have said 6'4. In mens shoe sizes by 11, how can they not have gone through any male puberty? They have a male physique regardless.

Yes mum is tall, as is sister but like 5'8 -5'10 not 6'4

ThinEndoftheWedge · 31/07/2020 14:47

A man with low testosterone is still not a woman.

Yep.

A man with low testosterone is still a man.

ChubbyPigeon · 31/07/2020 14:49

Actually playing cricket against boys in late primary/early secondary is what totally put me off playing cricket. I never had a hope of being up to their standard - even when we were like 11 he was significantly taller and stronger than me.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 31/07/2020 14:53

but her condition - which she says has been established by doctors but is yet to receive a full medical diagnosis

So hang on - Maxine's saying they're intersex, but isn't actually diagnosed. Wants to share their biological details, but can't actually name anything, has no NHS diagnosis, despite apparently never having gone through puberty?

None of this makes any sense.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 31/07/2020 15:01

Maxine never went through male puberty

I’m confused (no surprise)

So they didnt go through a male puberty, so are they saying They went through a female puberty or didnt go through puberty (neither of those things I believe)

WinterIsGone · 31/07/2020 15:03

Blythin has also described how her transition has involved taking the hormones necessary to fulfil a female puberty.

DialSquare · 31/07/2020 15:05

How did Maxine present themselves at school? If you don't mind answering that is.
ncGCFeminist · 31/07/2020 15:07

You can't take hormones to enable puberty. Can you?

Yes, none of what Maxine has said is consistent. You'd have thunk at their age they may want to know what their medical condition is.

Also, faux girly voice on that interview is very grating

Kit19 · 31/07/2020 15:08

Kent can get in the bin for doing this.

The ECB and ICC need to do what the RFU have done and hold a proper enquiry

WinterIsGone · 31/07/2020 15:08

The 24-year-old describes how she transitioned in her teenage years, having experienced gender dysphoria
But Maxine was playing men's cricket last year.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 31/07/2020 15:09

Yes

But Boys go through puberty between 9 and 14...they certainly weren’t given hormones for a female puberty then

Collidascope · 31/07/2020 15:15

A female puberty involves periods, vaginal discharge, the growing of breasts, the widening of the hips. I doubt Maxine has been through that somehow.

ShellsAndSunrises · 31/07/2020 15:16

At club level, Blythin has also played in 'open cricket' - matches in which the vast majority of players are men, but in which women often participate as well. Comparisons have frequently been drawn between her statistics in open cricket and the women's game, sometimes leading to confusion.

That's from the Sky article. Did she play mens cricket too, or is that a misleading statement from Sky?

Her interview doesn't seem to make much sense, and it's quite concerning.
