Dominos and the offer to "Karens"

So Dominos has cancelled its offer of free pizza to "Karens" that it made on social media a few days back. The reason for this cancellation is the backlash it received from the wokies, who aren't very happy that white women are being rewarded with free pizza (lol), because they're entitled, privileged, and use their skin colour in nefarious ways.

For example, twitter.com/aramreyess/status/1288314493085179904

I'm absolutely sick of this anti-woman, anti-white bullsh*t that's spreading through society.. I just have to say. Why is this happening?

Only white women are called Karen? Is that the law?

SunsetBeetch · 30/07/2020 09:36

You're going to hate this then, OP. I certainly do.

FloralBunting · 30/07/2020 09:37

I mean, that's just grim on all levels and displays almost everyone involved, from Dominos to Twitter as a thoughtless, sexist fucking arse.

So “Caren” is an acronym that’s a play on “Karen”, but if that’s not enough, there are two more names you can use for insulting women.

And one name for men. Quelle suprise.

nepeta · 30/07/2020 09:51

That the free pizzas were intended for real women called Karen because their name has been rolled in excrement and spat upon appears to completely miss the wokerati who complain about this.

This is just a little bit frightening, both in terms of the kind of blind injustice they are displaying and because of their apparent inability to climb above purely concrete thinking.

So the wokerati don't want anyone to be nice to women named Karen when, in fact, there is zero evidence that the group of nasty (white middle-aged) women the woke world so hates has unusually many women named Karen.

That white middle-aged women are very unlikely to any nastier, on average, than, say, white middle-aged men and yet there is a meme about the former group and not the latter does tell me that sexism is certainly thriving in social media.

midgebabe · 30/07/2020 10:20

Their argument goes

We have suffered discrimination for no good reason so see how you like it

Infantile, and of course, we won't try to make that point against men will we, let's pick on women

HoneysuckIejasmine · 30/07/2020 10:35

Oh FFS. Do these wonderfully woke young people not realise that one day they'll be middle aged too?

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 30/07/2020 10:35

The only friend called Karen i knew in school is black

Its very much a generational name...in this country at least

I don’t like name calling...but at least snowflake, gammon etc aren’t someone’s actual name

WeeBisom · 30/07/2020 12:52

One person on twitter said something like “maybe Karens should try being oppressed for 400 years before they complain about a meme.” This reminds me of Catherine mackinnon who said that people don’t really believe that women are oppressed as a class. Women have been oppressed for far longer than 400 years but this is entirely invisible.

jessstan2 · 30/07/2020 13:00

I'm thoroughly sick of the name, 'Karen', being used in this way; it is grossly unkind and unfair to people whose parents gave them that name in good faith.

We could make a commitment to not using or responding to it.

highame · 30/07/2020 13:10

All we need is a T-shirt slogan. Any ideas?

A bit like I am Sparticus but I'm sure I've seen that on another thread.

I am Karen

DialSquare · 30/07/2020 13:15

Keep Karen and Carry On?

highame · 30/07/2020 13:18

😁

Karen thinks Domino's is shit

LillianBland · 30/07/2020 13:36

FFS! Twitter is just full of thick people. Imagine being that woke, you immediately jump on a company that makes a light hearted offer to women with the name Karen and accusing them of supporting racism, because the sane women are having to put up with the indignity of having their name used as an insult. As for the attitude that only white middle class women are called Karen. Give me strength. My best friend at school was called Karen. Her father was a violent alcoholic, that I once had to drag off her mother. They lived hand to mouth.

The insult ‘Karen’, is just being used because they don’t want to get called out for the insult they really mean. It’s just a ‘politer’ way of calling a woman, bitch, cunt, hysterical, etc. It’s a misogynistic insult, being used to shut women up.

LillianBland · 30/07/2020 13:37

sane=same

IDanielRadcliffe · 30/07/2020 13:39

Has anyone actually seen this supposed “Karen” behaviour in action? I have never seen a middle aged woman behave in this way yet it supposedly happens multiple times a day?

LillianBland · 30/07/2020 13:47

There are videos on Facebook of women behaving in an angry or selfish manner, who are immediately labelled Karen. Even the fucking DM uses ‘Karen’ in its headings, when talking about such women. Considering how misogynistic many of the commenters are, they’re obviously pandering to them, while getting to insult women. Can you imagine the uproar if they said ‘cunt, bitch, etc refused to wear mask, insulted black persons, etc’? They can get away with ‘Karen’, even though it means the same thing, in my eyes.

Someone on that twitter thread even talked about it originating from a Karen and her husband pulling down something a black family has erected. It’s very telling, that they didn’t even know the husband’s name. As usual, women are responsible for men’s bad behaviour.

I have.

I’m a young person and definitely understand the Karen stereotype - I’ve experienced it myself when I used to work in retail.

It’s happens more frequently than you think. Have you not seen the sheer amount of videos with white middle aged women calling the police on black people for no reason and acting hysterically? How do you think these people behave off camera?

Pugdoglife · 30/07/2020 13:53

You've summed it up perfectly!

Yep. And I've never actually seen anyone use the male version they give to try and make it seem less gendered, Chad.

Stripesgalore · 30/07/2020 14:02

I work in retail. Bad behaviour is no more common from middle aged women than any other group.

MintyMabel · 30/07/2020 14:02

I regularly see people asking what the male version of Karen is.

But frankly, anyone suggesting there is an "anti white" sentiment is an idiot.

Kit19 · 30/07/2020 14:02

I worked in retail for about 8 years. I had customers of both sexes and all ages kick off in an appallingly entitled manner - funny how it’s only middle aged women that get a meme though

Middle aged man - “I want to see the manager” - assertive

Middle aged woman “I want to see the manager” - fucking entitled cow

MintyMabel · 30/07/2020 14:03

It’s a misogynistic insult, being used to shut women up.

It is used far more widely by women.

5amonSunday · 30/07/2020 14:13

anti-white bullshit

Hmm

I’m a young person and definitely understand the Karen stereotype - I’ve experienced it myself when I used to work in retail.

Me too.
