@EndoplasmicReticulum

It's odd that this thread is appearing in "Trending Now". Usually FWR threads don't, even if they are very busy. That's why confused people are appearing - they have seen the thread in trending and are not usual readers of the FWR board.

I'm wondering why this thread has got through the usual block to appear on the Trending list. And then I'm wondering why there is a usual block?

I had been a (not very active) member for quite some time, getting the emails with the 'trending now' threads but I'd never seen one for FWR, indeed I'd only found it since reading up about J K Rowling and I too had been wondering how come none of them had made the email (that I'd noticed). Wish I had found FWR a long time ago
Melroses · 24/07/2020 16:31

FWR got hidden on 'trending' from the rest of the site, for the benefit people who would rather not read what was being said, or live their lives with their fingers in their ears and their eyes closed.

However, occasional threads are let out into the wild, often JKR. I have not worked out whether it is accident or design. Confused

SerenityNowwwww · 24/07/2020 16:44

I think sometimes one just escapes. MNHQ gets out the butterfly net, traps it and then returns it carefully back to the vault.

Nothing to see here...

FloralBunting · 24/07/2020 16:46

FWR threads, eh? Like herding cats.

SerenityNowwwww · 24/07/2020 16:47

Or toddlers...

RoyalCorgi · 24/07/2020 16:49

This provides a good opportunity to share Artemisia Gentileschi's picture of Jael killing Sisera. Gentileschi was herself raped but never saw justice served for her rapist. At trial Gentileschi herself was tortured with thumbscrews, to make sure she was telling the truth.

She seems to have taken revenge in her paintings.

SerenityNowwwww · 24/07/2020 16:57

This is my favourite. The look on salomes face!

Michelleoftheresistance · 24/07/2020 17:01

In fairness HQ have mentioned in the past considering moving FWR off trending to make it harder for passing random trolls to find.

Freespeecher · 24/07/2020 17:05

I remember Judith and Holofernes but Jael and Sisera were new to me.

All too late Sisera realised this was no way to clear earwax...

GrimDamnFanjo · 24/07/2020 17:06

I met Ben Summerskill a few times in another life and he was very helpful as well as very tall!
Used to know Tom Sutcliffes mum too. Anyone notice the nod to @glinner in his twitter bio?
As you were...

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 24/07/2020 17:10

Fascinating, re Jael, Sisera and Artemisia.

I can't see a reason why Jael killed Sisera.

Was he doing the spread eagle with her sister?

(cw; pun)

RadandMad · 24/07/2020 17:53

Whatever it is, I just hope it really is good news. I can't take any more disappointment or wokebro nonsense.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/07/2020 18:41

What an interesting thread. I'm halfway through the champagne, sorry.

FloralBunting · 24/07/2020 18:48

Interestingly, even though I was very much part of the highly gendered patriarchy version of Christianity, I never had a twee floral women's bible. I had a solid, black leather Authorized Version, because if the KJV was good enough for St Paul, it was good enough for us.

(Ask me again how well I understand the neo-cult mindsetGrin)

StillWeRise · 24/07/2020 19:02

'good enough for St Paul' I like it
otoh, as a humanist, I was horrified when DD came home from heavily Christian CofE hign school (don't ask) with a 'modern' bible passage that went-
'think about the flowers growing in the fields, they don't work, do they?'

Xanthangum · 24/07/2020 19:10

Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

He's having a go at the flowers now!

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 24/07/2020 19:13

I love the beginning of KJV of Genesis - such utterly beautiful language. Never got past the begats, though, I'm afraid. They did go on a bit.

FloralBunting · 24/07/2020 19:27

Family joke here, if someone clearly fancies someone, we say they want to get down to some serious begatting.

I'll get me coat.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 24/07/2020 19:40

Surely begatting requires you to take your coat off first?

FreezerBird · 24/07/2020 19:43

Can I say how much I'm enjoying the turn this thread has taken? Jael, Artemisia Gentileschi, biblical language, the silliness of floral bibles for women...

I'm HOME!

boatyardblues · 24/07/2020 19:46

@ScrimpshawTheSecond

Surely begatting requires you to take your coat off first?
Nope. You don’t even need to take off your breeches, just drop ‘em.
Binterested · 24/07/2020 19:53

Love this thread.

Weekend journos do their requests for comment on a Thursday evening / Friday. In time for the paper. Too late for anyone to do much about it. Hoping for something in the weekend papers 🤞

ShiveringCoyote · 24/07/2020 19:58

I have an old family bible which contains every birth marriage and death in my family from 1802 in beautiful writing. Suffice to say we are a very female heavy crowd.

paniquer · 24/07/2020 20:01

Would it be a certain Labour that is not in the south?
