Ah yes, boatyard that’s the one, I seem to have missed a page of posts (and yet read the dolphin rape posts twice Hmm)

I was visiting a friend and they basically said you have to see these posters, it’s mad. I think the zoo also had animals but definitely not the reason for the visit!

They also had a massive family tree that started with Adam and Eve, went through Genesis and Jesus, and for some reason I remember it ending with the Queen Confused

Presumably they used one or other of gender 'begat' lists, but how would they get a family tree past Jesus? Confused
Though I'm reminded that my twin great aunts who were in most respects delightful but were followers of the decidedly iffy British Israelite sect, had a prayer which asked for blessings on the Queen who sat in the throne of her ancestor David (something like that - this is a memory from 45 years ago)

ErrolTheDragon · 27/07/2020 12:58

I have no idea at all what I typed in which autocorrect decided to turn into 'gender' in the first sentence instead of 'the'. Confused

TedsFederationRep · 27/07/2020 13:08

Genesis?

ErrolTheDragon · 27/07/2020 13:14

No, I was thinking of the Luke and Mathew ones mentioned upthread.

noblegiraffe · 27/07/2020 13:27

A bit of googling throws up this family tree that suggests the Virgin Mary was related to Joseph of Arimathea (which I don’t remember from the Bible!) and this family tree continues to Her Majesty.

We visited Bodmin Jail around Hallowe’en during a particularly rain-lashed October half-term stay. It was dark, creepy as hell and the mannequins scared the kids stupid. The displays about children being jailed and put to work with their debtor parents were reasonably factual, but grim and sad. Then we entered the rooms with boards about famous British murderers and serial killers. You get so used to reading dispassionate factual museum displays, it was quite a surprise to find the murders described in such florid detail and a clear view expressed throughout that hanging was too good for the lot of ‘em and the end of capital punishment in the UK was a VERY BAD THING. The whole experience was odd and unsettling. It’s probably for the best I didn’t do a TripAdvisor review. 😆

That ^ was for RoyalCorgi.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 27/07/2020 13:57

The Queen is descended from Jesus? Wow. I had heard she thought she was divinely chosen, no wonder if there's actually invented evidence to prove it.

SerenityNowwwww · 27/07/2020 14:00

Well that’s one up on the Pope then...

It's amazing what one can learn from the Mumsnet boards. Grin

I just thought Jesus did a nice line in sandals?

Didn't realise he'd been a bit naughty

Sounds like British Israelism - now there's a trip more disturbing than kitschy creationism and pro-hanging exhibits put together. Ostensibly it's the idea that the British people are actual one of the lost tribes of Israel, and it leads in to all the egregiously racist, colonialist and fairly unsavoury religious superiority that you might guess it did.

Obviously it's ridiculously illogical cobblers too, but as we have daily proof, why would logic be necessary?

highame · 27/07/2020 14:23

😂Do you think Brian swapped places for a few days?

That would work. However, no Kings named Brian but I might be wrong 'Brian the Brave' 'Brian the Bearded' 'Brian likes Baked Beans'

BaronessBollyKnickers · 27/07/2020 14:30

Brian the Redhead? Oh, hang on, that was radio four.

highame · 27/07/2020 14:31

🤣😂🤣

TheChampagneGalop · 27/07/2020 16:01

I don't think I understand what this thread is about but it's very interesting.

RoyalCorgi · 27/07/2020 16:06

Thank you, BoatYard! I remember visiting Bodmin Jail on the first day of a Cornish holiday a few years ago and it being incredibly depressing. Weather was a bit gloomy too. It wasn't what you want from a holiday (it got better after that).

DialSquare · 27/07/2020 16:06

Brian the Blessed?

Oh thank fuck for that Errol. I thought you said gender on purpose & that we were going to have to give you to the Thighs.
boatyardblues · 27/07/2020 16:12

Talking about Life of Brian has made me think about that recent 70s names thread. I’m not sure Brian will ever have a comeback.

DialSquare · 27/07/2020 16:17

I sent a card to my uncle Brian when I was about 8 and wrote "To Uncle Brain" in it in error. He's been known as Uncle Brain ever since.

JamieLeeCurtains · 27/07/2020 16:18

Brian the Snail was quite cute, for a snail.

CasuallyMasculine · 27/07/2020 16:34

Was it this? Just got an email from Kellie-Jay:

As a big thank you and "Happy Birthday" to J K Rowling you have supported Standing For Women to put up this digital board in Waverley Station, Edinburgh. Please share on social media #IloveJKRowling
