About something big about to happen to a red organisation beginning with 'S' that they won't like.

V unfair to vaguetweet IMO Grin - anyone else seen it?

@Tempusfudgeit

Reminds me of the gloriously inept, and not unsurprisingly nearly extinct kakapo parrot that has forgotten it can't fly and persists on merrily launching itself from high tree branches.
The bird who shagged Stephen Fry's mate's head in that documentary that IIRC was also partially about Douglas Adams?

With respect to Scott Newgent this has just launched...

[quote EmbarrassingAdmissions]I've really enjoyed this thread (except for the seals sad) the creativity humour and random chat on threads like this make MN for me

Do you recall the ghastly things that were revealed about dolphins in a particularly classic thread?

I am angry and sick and tired of how dolphins try and make out they are nice and friendly and cute when they are anything but. They are one of the most aggressive species in the animal kingdom, regularly involved in GANG RAPES of other dolphins that sometimes goes on for days, they also kill their OWN children so that the mother pays more attention to her husband dolphin so he can have sex with her without her being distracted by her child and they also are aggressive to humans when nobody is looking (I.e in the sea when nobody is around, not when they have an audience like at a sea world centre) But everyone says “aww dolphins are so cute and so friendly” but their not.

I missed the dolphins thread Shock you might have just wiped out my evening whilst I read it Grin

Tempusfudgeit · 26/07/2020 21:19

Tinsel Yes, it was based on a book called Last Chance to See by Mark Cawardine and Douglas Adams. Hilarious!

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/07/2020 21:23

This thread is becoming more surreal than Magritte.

Neurotrash - I thought you’d photoshopped a spacehopper onto the Magritte picture. Imagine my disappointment to click on it and find it was the boring kind of non-MN surrealism. 😆

Found this Mumsnet Classic thread I had not seen before linked to in the dolphin thread, which I am rereading. This one next!

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/07/2020 21:30

It reminded me of the space hopper!

Thanks tinsel, shall enjoy!

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/07/2020 21:33

Wow, good find Eresh, we've come full circle... ish.

So some Christians stick dinos on the ark and other ban them...

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 26/07/2020 21:40

THANK YOU for the Kakapo! Brilliant!

And the perfect Magritte spacehopper.

I'm really pissed off by those Barnacle Geese, though, I actually wish they'd just go extinct already rather than pursuing such a bloody silly life cycle repeatedly. Encouraging the wee fluffy chicks to hurl themselvs to their demise off a cliff at least makes me feel like a comparatively better parent than usual.

DianasLasso · 26/07/2020 21:48

Magritte spacehoppers, Artemisia Gentileschi documenting early brain surgery techniques, predatory leopard seals (with LTB issues round their relationships with ungrateful photographers) and deplorable dolphins, not to mention whole species competing for Darwin awards... this is the thread that has it all.

Xanthangum · 26/07/2020 21:50

The thread is slippier than a spacehopper covered in slug slime sliding down a slide greased in baby oil.

But no cake.

Here is a cake. Don't know why. It just felt relevant.

I'd forgotten about the Dino thread - I flipped to the end and discovered I got the last word ( and Dragon on it)

lionheart · 27/07/2020 02:18

I saw a dinosaur jogging in the park yesterday. When it clocked me it turned and ran the other way.

Most puzzling.

VickyEadieofThigh · 27/07/2020 09:46

I was in Alaska last year and in Seward went on a whale watching trip. It looked like a dead loss (and pissed it down with rain), though we did see a lot of other wildlife.

But then our captain got a message and we headed out to see at full steam. We watched for ages as a pod of Orcas was making an awful lot of fuss, frantically diving up and down in the sea - almost certainly attacking one or more animals.

VickyEadieofThigh · 27/07/2020 09:54

I meant we headed out to sea, but we did head out to see what was at sea, so...

SophocIestheFox · 27/07/2020 10:10

The one time I went whale watching, the weather was awful and the waves were massive, so while I did see a number of whales, they are inextricably linked with the sensation of vomiting up a breakfast of latte and croissants so comprehensively I swear it was coming out my eyeballs.

Happy days Grin

VickyEadieofThigh went to sea, sea, sea, To see what she could see, see, see. But all that she could see, see, see, was some orcas brutally murdering some other sea creatures.
DianasLasso · 27/07/2020 11:28

Watch out Soph the Thighs will get over excited at the thought of eyeballs marinated in latte, croissant crumbs and digestive juices. They'll be over to do some organ harvesting if you don't watch your step.

Reminds me of the Creationist Zoo that we paid a visit to a few years back. They had a model Ark with the animals going in 2 by 2 with mammoths and dinosaurs. They also housed the giraffes next to the T-Rexs.

Amazing information posters too. Big Bang: science or sophisticated myth?

Creationists, you say?

Did you know that Mumsnet had its own Young Earth Creationist for a glorious series of threads? It started off when he crashed into this one

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/philosophy_religion_spirituality/1719381-Young-Earth-Creationists

and continued for several more as he tried ever more desperately to 'debate' the pesky wimminz and correct their wrongthink...

Was this Noah’s Ark Zoo in Somerset, near the M5? If so, I mentioned it upthread. DH and I were glad we were the only family looking at the displays during our visit because there was a lot of “bloody hell, come and read this bit!” and laughing ‘til our sides ached. A bit like the Bodmin Jail serial killer display, also written by someone with an agenda.

I've been to Bodmin Jail and I don't remember that! Please remind us.
