I now have an image of a hardcore swimmer penguin. He's a bit like Dwayne Johnson in build, big shoulders, and obviously now I've said that, he's folding his flippers and cocking his eyebrow.

DianasLasso · 25/07/2020 23:36

This (barring the fact that they unnaccountably don't use the King James version) has to be the definitive approachable version of the Bible.
www.thebricktestament.com/

It is particularly good for Leviticus.

@EmpressJKRowlingSpartacus

They would if the seals were on board.

That’s the other thing I was thinking about. Did they take ready-killed food for the carnivores / pescatarians? Or were some of the animals told they were being saved, but actually there to be eaten? And that lie would NEVER have worked on the fish.

I can imagine the wildebeest, for example were suspicious when 20 of them were allowed on board.
OneEpisode · 25/07/2020 23:37

If penguins count as a clean animal then Noah should have had seven breeding pairs. It’s only unclean animals that were limited to one pair.
Genesis 7, 2-3.
Those toy manufacturers and educational cartoon makers were saving money on the other 12 animals.

FloralBunting · 25/07/2020 23:38

Tinsel if you fancy a laugh and have literally nothing else to do, you could while away ten minutes reading the Answers In Genesis website, which is full of straight-faced creationist explanations for little conundrums like that.

Does it say who shovelled all the shit?
ThePurported · 25/07/2020 23:40

Penguins and seals - that would make a great political cartoon about something.

EmpressJKRowlingSpartacus · 25/07/2020 23:43

I suppose they got told 7 breeding pairs could get on the ark, but didn’t get told how many of them would get off it alive.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/07/2020 23:44

DD was given a little Noah's ark book (it's never too soon to introduce kids to the concept of genocidal deities, is it?) which rather charmingly had two rabbits boarding and many rabbits disembarking. Evidently this version had sex but no eating of shipmates.

EmpressJKRowlingSpartacus · 25/07/2020 23:45

Bloody hell, look at this. www.bbc.co.uk/earth/story/20141117-why-seals-have-sex-with-penguins

We only know about the species that made it. The ones that were dinner for everyone else? Damn, I hope they didn’t eat the tastiest ones & leave us just with the chewy ones.
DannyGlickWindowTapping · 25/07/2020 23:46

And now all I can think of is a couple of penguins "sacrificed" for the ark, while the rest stand on the beach going "Smile and wave, boys. Smile and wave."

FreezerBird · 25/07/2020 23:47

Given that, as noted earlier, it's possible to get a laydeeez Bible with a nice pink cover, I don't see why there shouldn't be a penguin one.

Floral I love Jonah too. I think it's got some quite challenging things to say about how really we like our enemies to stay our enemies.

So they didn't go in two by two, (hurrah, hurrah) they went in fourteen by fourteen (hurrah hurrah)?
Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/07/2020 23:50

Bloody hell, look at this.

WTAF?

EmpressJKRowlingSpartacus · 25/07/2020 23:51

That’s exactly what I thought Eresh!!!!

Seals try to fuck penguins & then sometimes they eat them. They’re even worse bastards than drakes.

OneEpisode · 25/07/2020 23:52

Tinsel, they could still go up the little wooden ramp in orderly pairs though? Because all animals do that.
Imagine cats walking up the ramp in seven orderly pairs?

boatyardblues · 25/07/2020 23:52

That story about seals and penguins is grim. 😞

Isn’t it.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/07/2020 23:53

Oh don't get started on those drakes! Shock

ThePurported · 25/07/2020 23:53

"On three separate occasions, a research team led by William A. Haddad and de Bruyn spotted young male seals sexually coercing what appeared to be healthy penguins of unknown gender."
Blimey.
And... "gender"?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/07/2020 23:53

Yes, cats are after all famously easy to herd.

I'd forgotten quite how much sex there was in Genesis.

Well, I suppose they couldn’t get close enough to ask them how they identified.
