I want to cry - JK’s handprints

Someone has defaced JK’s golden handprints outside city chambers In Edinburgh with red paint and a pride flag.
Pink News are all over it saying she has blood on her hands.

I’m shaking with anger.
I dreamed last night that she was attacked by a mob.
She’s got the best security money can buy. Thank goodness. The TRA’s are inciting their own violence.

@Angryresister

This reminds me of the hands of the 15 child brides who were killed by burning when when their princely husband died, in the palace in Jodhpur.

What???!!!! The two in no way compare whatsoever and drawing a comparison is appalling.

Yes, the act of vandalism in Edinburgh is pathetic but your comparison really takes the biscuit.

Could JKR not sue PN for saying she has blood on her hands? They're implying she's responsible for trans deaths. Surely if you're going to make a horrific statement like that, you need to prove it?

I don't think the 'stating biological fact is literal violence' argument would hold up well in court. I'd give anything to see a judge hand their arses back to them.

Please don't.

This is a spiteful and nasty attack. The other is a human rights atrocity. Yes, both are driven by misogynistic entitlement but it's still a really tone deaf comparison.

Pink News is always going to double down on Rowling, because she showed up their owner as the misogynist muppet he is. Which is useful, really, because reading Pink News and the very thinly veiled hatred of women that is its modus operandi was one of the things that made me wake up. Extremism is never going to convince most.

That Edinburgh Live article is ever so biased. I'm pissed off about that too.

Is it because I am rather ''old'' that I do not understand this sort of thing?

Yep it's shit.

Even so, I can't imagine many people thinking this vandalism was a good idea.

Disgusting. The trans bullies are turning everyone outside this debate against them with their campaign against JK Rowling.

Horrific so sick of snowflakes who shout about being inclusive but only if you are their brand of inclusive.

"I would never sully my hands myself but don't mind if other people do" is about as morally dubious as a position can get.

Absolutely abhorent. I hope JK reads this board and sees the support she has here. It's criminal, threatening, spiteful and hateful and I hope it's treated as such by the police. Of course it won't be as hate crimes against women aren't a thing are they?

I used to really admire everything she's achieved. But to me, I've found her comments over the past few months so insulting and deliberately harmful to other human beings, that I no longer support her in any way.

Please do find the insulting and deliberately harmful words she's spoken. Here are the threats and abuse she's met with in return - vilely misogynist threats, including rape. Words do indeed have consequences, but it seems you are only interested in silencing women.

Actions and words have consequences

I won't be replying to, or looking at this thread again. Just FYI. Not interested in seeing the jumping on from all the transphobes and TERFs about come down

I know you’ve said you won’t look, but when you put those two sentences together, did it not occur that the second makes a nonsense of the first? JKR needs to accept the impact of her words, but your hit and run with a couple of silly slurs is the real bravery?

Ok, then.

That evening news article is not great. Silly vandalism and really OTT. But sure, keep pumping up the rhetoric, guys, it’s really helpful.

Shaking with anger? Had a dream she was attacked? Confused

What about trans women and men who are physically attacked and actually killed on a regular basis, just for their humanity?

As you say JK has lots of money and good security. She'll be just fine.

Trans women are killed less than any other demographic. Less than one a year from a population that is between 200,000 - 500,000. The overall murder rate is 1 in 100,000.

More trans women have killed people than been killed in the last decade. No trans man has killed or been killed. Meanwhile, two women a week are murdered by a man they had a relationship with. Five a week through lockdown. Where is your concern for them?

Stop with the lies.

That's not true. They are not. They are less likely to be killed than the general population in either the UK or US. You're talking to people who know what they're talking about, so fake propaganda doesn't wash here.

Here you go @cheeseaddict420. Actual facts for you to get your head around.

Trans people are at very low risks of murder indeed. And all those killed are killed by men, I should add. The determination to terrify trans people by insisting they are surrounded by people who want to kill them is abusive towards trans people, fyi. Gaslighting people into unwarranted fear isn't a very pleasant action.

This thing certainly seems to be escalating since JKR published her tweet and article. The issue is receiving the kind of exposure to which even the uninitiated - those who might previously have assumed what I used to: ie. that all trans women were post-operative, or that their right to self-definition 'wasn't hurting' anyone else - can no longer be oblivious.

It's out there. The pushback is clearly in evidence in the former echo-chamber that is Twitter: the argument's being fought out publicly and there's now a trending hashtag #onlyfemalesgetcervicalcancer. That's having only yesterday read a screening-test invitation on Mumsnet that didn't include the word 'woman'.

JKR has tested this particular water before. She knew exactly what she was doing in putting her head above the parapet in this way. I applaud her.
