I want to cry - JK’s handprints

Wandawomble · 12/07/2020 11:59

Someone has defaced JK’s golden handprints outside city chambers In Edinburgh with red paint and a pride flag.
Pink News are all over it saying she has blood on her hands.

I’m shaking with anger.
I dreamed last night that she was attacked by a mob.
She’s got the best security money can buy. Thank goodness. The TRA’s are inciting their own violence.

Wow people on this thread calling me dramatic! Amazing. Just trying to participate in threads and discuss.

How does caring about trans people mean I don't care about women Confused. It was articles like this that I had seen that had informed my thinking: www.cbsnews.com/news/transgender-killed-in-2020-merci-mack-18-total/ not UK stuff obviously, but I lived in the US before and still consume a lot of US media.

Thanks for the links - I will read though maybe not come back to this thread - you would think that if you were trying to help people understand your line of think you would be kinder about it, but I guess this is the world we live in! Have a great Sunday all!

More hatred against women who dare to have valid opinions and state these in public. If you think JK in anyway 'deserved' this and the general backlash, then you're an idiot. And you don't give a shit about women's rights.

Do the sums next time, before wading in to get your arse handed to you by more knowledgeable feminist women.

You'd think if you read on this forum more often, you'd know how sexist and unfeminist the whole 'be kind' line is, and that those statistics have been debunked over and over.

And yes, women having rights is being framed, right now, as an assault on trans people. Trans rights is the elimination of female sex based rights. That's it in a nutshell.

Please don't expect me to be nice and kind about that, because its the worst assault of male privilege and demand on females in our time or our mothers' time and vulnerable groups of females are at high risk from this. Females are going to tell this like it is. In the desperate hope of being heard and avoiding that fate. As opposed to keeping aggressive, demanding, uncaring male people and their allies sufficiently smoothed over, because that is not a reciprocal expectation and so would also demonstrate a lot of sexism.

They said they were in the states - the unquestioning pro-trans media coverage is absolutely honking out there.

Sorry to get so frustrated - you're right, that wasn't fair. You know the funny thing? I originally went and looked all of this up because I agreed with you and thought the women here were horrible, so I was determined to prove all their nasty claims wrong with hard data... but the more I looked, the more I found I was wrong. Trans women aren't more likely to be murdered, and they commit sexual offences against women at standard male rates. NOT any worse - I should stress that. They are no more likely, just no less, either. Transition does't change the risk to women.

A page here has a lot of linked, evidenced info.

And yes, some trans women are horribly killed by horrible men, and it's horrendous. All such deaths are tragic, whoever the victims are.

We get a lot of trolls here and it makes us defensive - which is really unfair to people who are genuine, and I apologise.

And you can hear the shock and the gears crunching when they encounter females saying no, and explaining why.

@TheProdigalKittensReturn

Whoever planned that is really bad at symbolism. They intended "blood on her hands" but the way it's going to read to anyone not already indoctrinated is "holy shit they're so angry with Rowling that they're symbolically dousing her in blood". It doesn't come across as "woe is vulnerable us", it comes across as a clear and frankly rather deranged threat.

Thank you, Prodigal, for expressing my opinion better than I could have done Flowers

are often not well balanced people, and they appear to lack capacity to understand social appropriacy, boundaries or proportionality, or indeed to consider anything outside of their own wants and emotions. Destructive and aggressive temper tantrums are common.

It's almost as if you were talking about a baying mob of violent men and this is the whole irony. It's all very stereotypically masculine behaviour.

@lady69

They just make themselves look like the aggressive bullies they are. They more they do this sort of thing, the more everyone normal sees that they are scum. They are losing the argument and know it. All they have is slurs and violent acts and let’s face it, it’s all they have EVER had. We have known it for years and now everyday people are seeing it too. Good job morons!! Carry on destroying, swearing, shutting down debate, being misogynists and being men.

This 1000 times. Childish pathetic idiots, that lot of them.

To be completely honest here - in a world where women are still pretty much second class citizens, where babies don’t even see the light of day because of their sex (and those who abort/murder them get off Scot free), where female life is so cheap that girls are raped and murdered/repetitive justice is for the rape of a sister or daughter of a male miscreant, where daughters are murdered - in the U.K. - for dressing ‘wrongly’/having a boyfriend/marrying the ‘wrong man’... god I could go on - the point being, I have little ‘kindness’ left over for people who want to ‘change gender’ (so do it then - wear a skirt, call yourself Frank but stay in your lane). Well actually, there’s some for small kids/teens who set off along a medicalised lifetime because they like barbie and pink (and gherkins, I shit you not).

Pathetic basement dwellers. But the TRAs aren't renowned for being particularly bright. After all, they think it's possible to change sex...

Fucks sake, it's just a bit of red paint. It will wash off and the handprints can be repainted. If you're going to cry and 'shake with anger', how about doing it over the high incidence of sexual violence in the DR Congo, the threat to abortion rights in the USA, child marriages across the world, honor killings rather than a bit of Valspar.

If you really think it's OK to threaten rich people because they can afford security, where is your moral compass? I don't think you really believe that, though, do you? Nobody here is attacking you, unless you perceive having your mistakes pointed out constitutes an attack. It's OK to make mistakes and nobody's judging you (let alone sending you unsolicited pornographic images or pictures of baseball bats wrapped in barbed wire with graphic suggestions about which part of your anatomy should receive them nor even contemptuous invitations to suck any parts of our anatomies) we are kindly pointing out where you have gone wrong and inviting you to check your data.

You'll be hard put to find offence in anything said to you here, but I guess it depends how badly you want to be offended.

These extreme TRA people seem to have a bit of a thing about blood one way or another, wanting to punch "T*S" in their faces, faking menstrual blood with red glitter on real tampons and now this. Interesting.

@NearlyGranny - that's an interesting comment. It's pretty clear to most feminist thinkers that Freud's notion of penis envy is hilarious compared with men's deep birth envy. There are strong arguments that men hogged the arts world for centuries and repressed female creativity to try and compensate for the fact they couldn't build a human inside their bodies. It's male hatred of female fecundity. And they would really doubly hate Rowling then, wouldn't they? Not only has she given birth she has exceeded as a creator and a business woman. That goes some way to explain why her very moderate, sane, respectful essay is deemed transphobia worthy of death threats.

Actions and words have consequences.

That's the whole point of this thread, btw.

Women who speak out about women's rights get consequences- threats of rape, murder, violence in general. People try to discredit their entire life's work, deplatform them, douse monuments to them in paint and claim that they're responsible for literal violence against a group they have said repeatedly that they respect and don't wish any harm to.

Women who support said woman are cancelled as a revenge act because they can't cancel the first one they tried.

Women who meet with other women to discuss women's rights get doxxed, sacked, and an actual violent baying mob threatening to break in to the venue, causing criminal damage to the venue etc.

We know all about actions and words having consequences.

Now if only those threatening murder and violence and defacing statues face the consequences of their own actions.

@Herja

I am so fucking bored of people claiming to be adults, behaving like spoilt children having a tantrum.

Yet behaviour I would not tolerate in my 6 year old (not just this! DC knows not to vandalise things. All the childish toy throwing and stropping), is being touted as fucking brave, courageous, fighting against oppression. And the people who argue against it are the ones being cunts... Aye. Right.

It's not. That's a fucking insult to those who have fought oppression. It's nothing but pathetic little prats, with no real life achievements, trying to get a pat on the fucking head from their friends, because they have nothing of worth in their shitty little lives to feel real pride in.

Well said. 👏🏼 👏🏼

Fucks sake, it's just a bit of red paint.

'Blood' was only mentioned by JKR in relation to menstruation. As for those opposing her, Twitter is replete with violent threats of 'curb-stomping' JKR, amongst other niceties. This is active, public incitement to extreme violence, apparently with impunity.

'Just a bit of red paint' takes on a far more sinister significance in this context. That is, unless you're being wilfully blind to the content of both sides of this 'debate'. And debate's putting it generously.
