Twitter has decided that saying "Only females get cervical cancer" is hateful.

Twitter to ban tens of thousands of accounts due to this ‘hateful conduct’.

So now ... it's trending on Twitter.

Take that, Twitter.

The worlds gone mad.

OtepotiLilliane42 · 12/07/2020 01:43

So if someone put on twitter "only men get prostate cancer" they would be thrown off for 'hateful speech'?

See the thing that really, really makes me angry is that men who transition to living as if they were women must know perfectly well that they are still biologically male, and have no need to be personally concerned about health issues that affect the female body. (Of course there are transwomen who do acknowledge this, and who have pointed it out on many occasions).

Do women who transition to living as males get so hysterical about health campaigns aimed exclusively at men I wonder? Such as the need to be tested for prostate cancer for example? Perhaps not, as the word man has not been banned in common discourse yet, as has been attempted with the word woman.

I hope this twitter campaign persuades the CEO that women have had enough of this barking mad campaign to deny women the right to talk about themselves. It's tyranny, and I'm sick of it.

NotBadConsidering · 12/07/2020 01:46

Look at the objections. Not content with the words woman and man being gendered, the words male and female are part of gender identity too now. Not to mention complete idiocy around intersex.

I have to keep reminding myself that half the population has an IQ in double digits, and the actual number of Twitter users is fewer than 5% of the world population. It shouldn’t carry the weight it does on popular opinion. Or, you know, scientific facts.

wildone84 · 12/07/2020 01:48

Twitter is mental. Biological reality is hate speech now?

FWRLurker · 12/07/2020 02:32

Well this apparently is the Final death knell Of male/female=sex and woman/man=gender

Still dunno what I’m going to do in my evo bio class Next semester when we talk about sex for 3 weeks. Maybe I’ll get cancelled. Never mind my students probably won’t even come to class because coronavirus so it should be fine Confused

CaptainCorellisPangolin · 12/07/2020 02:49

We are accused of "gatekeeping cancer". Nasty women, keeping all the cervical cancer to themselves.

OtepotiLilliane42 · 12/07/2020 04:36

Thanks for posting that guide for transwomen who have had surgery DanceLikeEmmaGoldman, that was very interesting. I hadn't known about the cancer risk, so good to know that there are services out there for trans people that need them.

AnyOldPrion · 12/07/2020 04:42

Does anyone know what Tweet the original comment was in response to? Assuming it was a response to something.

Yeah, it's utterly absurd. I assumed the "Females" part of the hashtag was used specifically to avoid the inevitable pile-on that would've happened if "women" had been used instead. But apparently "female" has no meaning now, too.

I could cry with frustration. Even my workplace is referring to "people who menstruate" in company emails, publicly supporting TRA campaigns, and has a supposedly feminist employee organisation that has denounced JKR as "anti-trans". Several messages encouraging donations to Mermaids, too. It's suffocating. I just can't deal with the lack of basic critical thinking skills on display, and the ridiculous conclusions drawn as a result. Especially by those in positions of influence and power. It seems the majority of the loudest voices have misunderstood pretty much every argument they're opposing.

Thanks.

Durgasarrow · 12/07/2020 05:10

I just read what Emma Goldman posted. Transwomen need to get their "neocervix"(es) tested? Is there really such a thing??????

AMostExcellentStick · 12/07/2020 05:41
Er. Right then.

www.cancer.ca/en/prevention-and-screening/reduce-cancer-risk/find-cancer-early/screening-in-lgbtq-communities/trans-women-and-cervical-cancer-screening/?region=on
Neo vaginas are made from penile tissue, aren't they? So are neo cervixes also? I think what that link is really saying (very carefully) is "this is a bit of you which can get cancer, talk to your doctor and figure out your risk", not "you can get cervical cancer, get cervical screening". Of course that's not how it's being read or used on twitter...

Winesalot · 12/07/2020 05:42

Maybe it is all in the name ??? Ie whatever tissue it is constructed out of has developed cancer and this is now called cervical cancer but it should be explicitly called whatever the cervix is made off.

Unless they are transplanting cervixes? Are they?

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 12/07/2020 05:50

I did a little research and it looks as HPV infection can increase the risk of penile cancer in men. However its not very a very common cancer < 1%. I would guess that surgeons inverting penile tissue to create a faux-vagina would check for lesions or warts.

On the other hand, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer for women and readily detected through screening.

So “cervical” screening for transwoman might be useful in rare cases, but I imagine the screening techniques would need to be different from that used for women, taking into account that the faux-vagina/cervix is a surgical procedure and the female vagina an organ of the female body.

Winesalot · 12/07/2020 06:00

I had written about how would that painful device even work and deleted it.

Winesalot · 12/07/2020 06:00

Surely cervical cancer is about that organ and not about that location???

FannyCann · 12/07/2020 06:10

The faux vagina is a festering soup of bacteria, then there is the issue of HPV.
Penile cancer is very rare although I have known a handful of patients with it. So I suppose there is a risk of something going on "down there". Not cervical cancer as we know it obviously.

I was going to say all that would be needed would be a vaginal swab but I suppose a cancer might be localised to a particular area and would need careful visualisation of the whole neo-vagina , so a totally different procedure to a cervical smear. I'm just surmising there though. Clearly.relevant healthcare should be given by a specialist urologist.

TheMistressQuickly · 12/07/2020 06:16

Well, you need a cervix to have cervical cancer. People born with a penis (men/males) clearly can’t get cervical cancer. Jeez.

EdgeOfACoin · 12/07/2020 06:23

Well this apparently is the Final death knell Of male/female=sex and woman/man=gender

Wasn't there an MSP who declared that transwomen were adult human females? Confused

Winesalot · 12/07/2020 06:33

The amount of women accusing other women of ‘gatekeeping’ cancer is astounding. They are missing the point that a) this obscuring the language has dangerous health risks for women and b) people are supposedly not denying their biological reality. That is what they started saying after JKR pointed out that they were.

If people are not denying their biological reality twitter should not be banning tweets saying ‘only females get cervical cancer’.

John Cleese was right. Overly sensitive people should not be setting the bar for allowable discourse. The cracks in allowing this to have moved so far are showing clearly now.

Kantastic · 12/07/2020 06:42

Cancer is specific to tissue types.

Transwomen don't have cervical tissue. That weird article that was posted about the "neo-cervix" is written in a deliberately confusing way, presumably to "validate" its target audience, who often seem to find the creation of confusion around women's issues validating.

monkeyonthetable · 12/07/2020 06:48

Eventually, all that will happen is that the woke social media platforms will be dropped by people who think for themselves and new, niche platforms will grow up which encourage free speech, genuine debate, fact over fairyland, and the new platforms will be the hotbed of intelligent discussion while Twitter and Reddit and others will decay into witch-hunts and flounces. They don't have monopoly control on how people think and communicate. They only assume they do.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 12/07/2020 06:50

That study makes for disturbing reading FannyCann

“Although this was not a study criterion and therefore not scored, a foul smell of the vagina was observed in most patients.”

Its hard not to feel sad for men undergoing this surgery, ending up with continuous odourous infections. Maybe thats how they imagine women are and it doesn’t bother them. Confused
