I saw Garbage about a year ago in Leeds as a rare hot date with my husband.. They are an interesting band for us as we both like them but tend to rate different songs (ie he likes the new dancey stuff and I like the rawk!) It was a really good night out, although in my late 30s I was one of the younger people in the crowd.
Not deleting it or burning CDs, but a mild disappointment that an international band can't welcome different outlooks.

Butch Vig is very famous in music circles. He produced Nevermind. I know because I once watched one of the “Classic Albums” about it, and he talked about recording the album. He was wearing weird yellow tinted glasses if I remember correctly. Talented guy. Shame about condoning misogyny.

Garbage were put together by already successful, expert music producers, almost like a boy band/girl band, only with the producers themselves actually in the band, largely hidden from view by the smoke machines. Their heyday publicity shots are all Shirley at the front and the others out of focus behind. All deliberate.

Pretty successful ruse, really, as Dido’s post above illustrates.

I would imagine that Shirley Manson made the least cash out of the Garbage project, which is why she’d end up doing PR herself, rather than outsourcing it. Shame if she said something so crass, but no big deal in the grand scheme of everything.

Manson was a great frontwoman, perhaps still is, so I’m not denigrating that particular aspect of her talent, btw!
