Looks like he might go to jail.

The judge said Joyce had "sought help" and there was evidence he had been able to "reduce, perhaps completely" his "impulsive behaviour".
What evidence, I'd like to know.

irishfeminist · 07/08/2020 14:46

There's an astonishing omerta on Twitter due to his powerful, connected partner. Appalling hypocrisy and cowardice.

southeastdweller · 07/08/2020 14:47

What’s almost as disgusting as his sentence is the lack of comments on social media from certain people about today’s news - Hadley Freeman, Janice Turner and the like. Very, very disappointing. Oh wait...they’re friends with his wife Hmm

Fanthorpe · 07/08/2020 14:54

He said previously that he’d be making a full statement.

AuntyPasta · 07/08/2020 15:02

‘Impulsive behaviour’? Is that what we’re calling it nowadays ...

timetest · 07/08/2020 15:30

Is he still with his wife?

DidoLamenting · 07/08/2020 16:04

@timetest

Is he still with his wife?
I'm guessing yes- hence the lack of comments/low key reporting.
Patch23042 · 07/08/2020 16:26

I hope that the disabled teen who lives with him is safe. Couldn’t care less about India Knight - she’s pathetic and desperate if she stays with him - that child’s wellbeing is what is paramount.

India’s bootlickers won’t comment on Twitter. They worry for their jobs.

A suspended sentence for masturbating over a 12mo baby being penetrated though. What a world.

That is it. People go to jail for much less. How could anyone bear to look at him.

I hope India’s daughter is ok.

boreda11 · 07/08/2020 18:34

Judges are too often swayed by sob stories. Even if only a few weeks, part of his sentence should have been in prison.

Siablue · 07/08/2020 19:03

Does anyone legal know if it is possible for his sentence to be reviewed. He was sentenced in the Crown Court it is also his third offence.

I've written about the sentencing of Joyce and other sex offenders here:

www.uncancelled.co.uk/tie-world/eric-joyces-suspended-sentence-for-child-sex-offences-shames-us-all/

Uncancelled is a new site that aims to challenge cancel culture so thought this an appropriate place to post.

I don't think 'not commenting on social media' is a sign that they approve of his actions. I think it is a sign that they are human beings. Of course they aren't commenting on twitter.

Deliriumoftheendless · 10/08/2020 11:19

And yet people still refuse to accept that children are the most vulnerable in society.

What exactly do you mean? That they’re being loyal to IK?
merrymouse · 10/08/2020 11:44

I mean that they know India Knight, and probably her children, as real people, so of course they aren't commenting on twitter. It's not a case of loyalty/not loyalty, its a case of knowing how to treat somebody else as a fellow human being.

There is no reason that they should have to express every thought on every subject on twitter, and certainly no reason that they should have to make a personal statement vis a vis their colleague/friend who has not been accused of anything.

QuarantineDream · 10/08/2020 14:30

One of the reasons he was given a suspended sentence was because, according to his barrister:

"Since that time, he has given up drinking, found a partner that he loves, she loves him and they have made a life together.”

If that partner is indeed IK, she has allowed their relationship to be used to mitigate Joyce's sentence.

His sentence for watching babies be raped.

PotholeParadise · 10/08/2020 15:02

I wouldn't expect India's RL friends to comment. They're probably quietly despairing and trying to support her to see through his excuses, as do the friends of less well-connected women in similar situations. Public comments on twitter would undermine that.

southeastdweller · 12/08/2020 08:41

Another possible reason that people including Turner and Moran have been silent about it is because they're worried for their jobs, what with IK's stepfather being the chairman of Times Newspaper Holdings Ltd.

Julie Burchill's written an article about the media silence - looking forward to reading it.

Fanthorpe · 12/08/2020 10:17

There was a piece in the Mail about a 17 year old party member who had an ‘affair’ with him. Extraordinary.

What the hell is IK thinking?!? After the incident when he assaulted the teenage boys she defended him, saying it was provoked, and that people didn’t understand what a stressful environment parliament was.

Bravo, Julie!

Clymene · 12/08/2020 16:11

Good on Julie Burchill for exposing the media hypocrisy at play here. This man is a paedophile and he is living with a woman and her disabled child. Both he and Knight are utterly repellent human beings

MoltenLasagne · 12/08/2020 16:29

Just read Julie's article - how on earth has that man got away without a spell in prison?

MrsKeats · 12/08/2020 16:44

Julie has now followed me! Feel special,
Astonishing article.

CharlieParley · 12/08/2020 17:02
Brilliant article. I'm sick to my stomach that Joyce was not sentenced to prison. And it's horrendously sexist to frame his "love of a good woman" as a mitigating factor. Once again, man is not responsible - here woman is cast as his keeper, in other cases she drove him to it.
