Munroe Bergdorf

I am trans.

I was a follower of Munroe Bergdorf’s Instagram.

Munroe wrote a post about JK Rowling, calling her a dangerous woman to the trans community. Munroe stayed something along the lines of

“JKR is a dangerous cisgendered, white woman who is causing harm”

I replied to this post, asking why Munroe felt it necessary to mention JK Rowing’s racial identity.

I wasn’t Abusive. I just felt that it wasn’t necessary, in regards to what Munroe was being critical of, to mention JK Rowling’s ethnicity.

Within minutes my post was deleted and I was blocked.

I am trans, and Munroe has silenced me.

So it seems nothing can be questioned. Any intent to ask a question, or to strike up debate, will be met with being silenced.

This is fast turning into propaganda. This is fast turning into thought crime. This is fast turning into silencing. This is fast turning into something it should never have been.

When a trans person isn’t even able to question another trans person, what chance do “people who belong to sex that menstruate”* have?

  • Christ, I don’t even feel like I can use the word women here without being controversial.

I am so sorry for people to whom I thought I identified alongside (trans people) who are doing this to you. I feel sick and ashamed of what I am, because of people who are representing me.

I feel like I literally have no space left. And I can’t help but feel that a lot of biological woman are feeling the same way. And you have so much more to lose than I ever will, so I simply can’t imagine how this is making you all feel.

It might even be funny if a significant number of contributors had actually, honestly understood the serious, pertinent point being made about white privilege and how it blindly perpetuates oppression. Being blind isn't immoral, closing your eyes is.

This is Critical Race Theory tho.

There is more than one way to fight racism and work towards equality, plenty of black people think Critical Race Theory is a pile of old shite.

Such as Zuby, whose tweet Belle posted, and Coleman Hughes, who I posted an interview with either.

It seems to me that you are simply parroting stuff you’ve heard elsewhere, but have applied no critical thought to the actual issues, nor the solutions.

Why do you, personally, believe that Critical Race Theory will bring us closer to racial equality?

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 08/07/2020 21:52

@LemonadeAndDaisyChains

34 pages before it hit recipe and cake idea swapping, that's pretty impressive going, it's usually a lot sooner if anyone disagrees or offers an opinion separate to the Borg. Wonder weetabix hasn't been mentioned yet.
3 pages since I asked you what your evidence is (re: people moving towards the TRA positions, such as people can change sex and sex is spectrum.

No answer yet.

Giningit · 08/07/2020 21:52

@MadBadDaddy It’s hard not to take it personally when you side with one POCs viewpoint and ignore another POC POV whilst speaking on behalf of POC. We aren’t one homogeneous group. Also no, I don’t think MB should have blocked the OP. She asked a valid question which MB couldn’t answer so MB blocked instead of engaging.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 08/07/2020 21:56

She asked a valid question which MB couldn’t answer

You don't know she couldn't answer though, that's also speculating - it's just as likely she couldn't face 40 pages of privilege denying and oppression Olympics FRONT AND BACK on her answer if she had.

Kantastic · 08/07/2020 21:57

Why are trans women annoyed that JK Rowling expresses concern about the transitioning of young people ie children, especially as NHS has changed their guidelines and the GIDS safeguarding lead is a whistleblower for incorrect procedures? And Newsnight highlights a number of issues at Tavistock? What does this have to do with adult trans women, who are happy in their decision?

This is the million dollar question, and we aren't allowed to discuss it here - but this podcast interview with Helen Joyce, a gender critical journalist lays it all out very clearly. Sorry to give you a video link, I hate video links myself, but I think your question deserves an answer and Joyce is great in this.

Datun · 08/07/2020 21:58

Home2018 filled half a page and really tore into everyone and I found it very moving.

Ugh.

Giningit · 08/07/2020 21:59

@Kantastic Now I agree with this. Unconscious bias does exist and I like your analogy of baby and bath water. What MB did here is point to JKRs colour as a reason for her to not to engage in a conversation about women’s rights. I mean WTAF? It just muddies the water.

RandomGel · 08/07/2020 22:00

@MadBadDaddy

The Irish were viewed as sub-human throughout the 800 years of oppression. There are still very unfunny ‘jokes’ that abound about the Irish and the butt of the joke is always ‘ahh the stupid’ Irish.

One of the many reasons why I took objection to MB’s flawed article.

How can I take her seriously when it seems all her arguments are driven by a desperate need for attention? The living embodiment of ‘Big Brother’ Culture.

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 08/07/2020 22:01

You don't know she couldn't answer though, that's also speculating - it's just as likely she couldn't face 40 pages of privilege denying and oppression Olympics FRONT AND BACK on her answer if she had.

But the oppression Olympics are entirely constructed by the people who use privilege, or lack of it, to shut people down.

It’s the tool of Bergdorf and her friends, not OP.

Kantastic · 08/07/2020 22:03

I don't have "male socialisation", though

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 08/07/2020 22:06

It's not nice to make people laugh when they have a mouth full of tea...

Datun · 08/07/2020 22:06

🤣

Kantastic · 08/07/2020 22:09

It just muddies the water.

Grin This bathwater analogy is getting extended beautifully. That poor baby.

Seriously though it really sucks that a posture of anti-racism has been adopted by so many bullshitters and grifters, hopefully the baby will survive.

NotBadConsidering · 08/07/2020 22:10

There is more concern with attacking Rowling’s character than there is with addressing the points she raised.

There is more concern with the way Rowling used the term “conversion therapy” rather than the fact staff at GIDS report they actually witnessed conversion therapy in action.

And there is more concern that adult trans people will lose access to medications if scrutiny continues into the medical treatment of children, than there is about the medical treatment of children itself and the long term side effects of medications on those children.

It’s very telling.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 08/07/2020 22:11

Dunno what the biscuit's for - other poster's point was dismissed because "male socialisation" - just saying well I agree with this bit and what's male socialisation got to do with anything - doesn't mean you can't have a point, or if you don't have it you can't agree with points made.

Giningit · 08/07/2020 22:11

@Kantastic Grin

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 08/07/2020 22:12

Poor baby indeed, gulping down mucky water while someone shouts "I'm doing this for your own good!"

MadBadDaddy · 08/07/2020 22:17

Giningit Thanks for the straight answer. I'm sorry you felt ignored.

Sure, I "sided" with what Home2018 was saying, for a few reasons. But I still thought it was powerful chiefly because it was a pretty controversial and forthright view by this board's standards, never mind the wordcount.
I did just search your posts to this thread, and I remember reading them the first time through, they just didn't really differ significantly from the consensus, so I missed your 'as a POC' qualifier. Not sure how much that should have affected my impression, TBH.

I said elsewhere that whether MB engaged or blocked, their choice should be respected. For all we know she gets 50 messages like that every day. Obviously I think OP was being selfish

FantaOra · 08/07/2020 22:25

I am entertained at daddy's ingenue response to the white feminism rant from Home2018. It's basic undergrad nonsense that gets repeated endlessly to no real effect.

The assumption that everyone here will immediately have an epiphany and repent for their white feminism as a result and display it on this thread is amusing.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2020 22:43

Most TRA nonsense starts making sense if you apply this lens.

Indeed it does.

MadBadDaddy · 08/07/2020 22:45

That explains the dismissiveness then. I guess I didn't hear the whole board mutter "Tch! that old undergrad nonsense"

Good thing she didn't go all post-grad elitist on you and mention 'bean-counters' or things would have really kicked off. Then you might have had to finish her off with a Daily Mail link

Very amusing

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2020 22:46

Ugh

Yes, my thoughts exactly, Datun

12frogsincoats · 08/07/2020 22:50

Hm. Trans, are you? Well that's certainly convenient.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2020 22:51

No, we contented ourselves with debunking her incorrect statements. I know exactly what Fanta means though. It's interesting not really that you were so impressed with it.
