Munroe Bergdorf

I am trans.

I was a follower of Munroe Bergdorf’s Instagram.

Munroe wrote a post about JK Rowling, calling her a dangerous woman to the trans community. Munroe stayed something along the lines of

“JKR is a dangerous cisgendered, white woman who is causing harm”

I replied to this post, asking why Munroe felt it necessary to mention JK Rowing’s racial identity.

I wasn’t Abusive. I just felt that it wasn’t necessary, in regards to what Munroe was being critical of, to mention JK Rowling’s ethnicity.

Within minutes my post was deleted and I was blocked.

I am trans, and Munroe has silenced me.

So it seems nothing can be questioned. Any intent to ask a question, or to strike up debate, will be met with being silenced.

This is fast turning into propaganda. This is fast turning into thought crime. This is fast turning into silencing. This is fast turning into something it should never have been.

When a trans person isn’t even able to question another trans person, what chance do “people who belong to sex that menstruate”* have?

  • Christ, I don’t even feel like I can use the word women here without being controversial.

I am so sorry for people to whom I thought I identified alongside (trans people) who are doing this to you. I feel sick and ashamed of what I am, because of people who are representing me.

I feel like I literally have no space left. And I can’t help but feel that a lot of biological woman are feeling the same way. And you have so much more to lose than I ever will, so I simply can’t imagine how this is making you all feel.

Aren't oat cakes biscuits? What I have are cookies, chewy little round things made with oatmeal with chocolate chips in them.

Meanwhile, I see Giningit is still apparently clad in the invisibility cloak that always hides POC here who're saying something inconvenient from those claiming to speak in their names.

FantaOra · 08/07/2020 20:25

For that bonkers assertion in the Independent story Bergdorf was kicked out by L'oreal. Who have now been guilted into a new arrangement as a result of the mandatory angst we are all expected to be performing at the moment.

In between Labour also sacked Munroe as it wasn't a popular choice for labour supporters in general to be branded racist.
A later gig representing women in film at the BFI was canceled due to outrage that the person chosen to represent women in film was male. Oh the irony.

The NSPCC gig was short lived due to bergdorfs habit of inviting children to get in touch secretly.

So why we would want to weep and wail over Bergdorf and fans latest PR shitshow I don't know. It's all vanity and fluff to bergdorf.

It's not a good idea to Lecture people when you know nothing about them.

BelleHathor · 08/07/2020 20:26

As a person of colour, I don’t think JKR speaking about women’s rights means that she’s oppressing me. Funnily enough, her being white has no bearing on this particular discussion, or do you think women’s rights are only the preserve of white women and us black women have no skin in the game?
This 👆 stop using BAME women as some sort of stick to beat "White feminists" with. We are not your political football to bandy about as some sort of gotcha in your game of oppression Olympics.

notyourhandmaid · 08/07/2020 20:26

I am starting to think TRAs might be a little bit misogynistic.

Did someone mention cake?

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 08/07/2020 20:28

Munroe does have gorgeous hair though. Mine was once lovely, now peri menopause is making it go frizzy and fall out.

Kantastic · 08/07/2020 20:28

It would be great if the posters who literally just equated white privilege with "pregnancy privilege" that they contend women have over men would shut the fuck up now and go away.

You don't get to lecture ANYONE about white privilege after demonstrating so much of it so cluelessly.

Giningit · 08/07/2020 20:29

@MadBadDaddy

TehBewilderness You need to read the talk guidelines. I do it every morning before breakfast, thanks. I take a lot on the chin b/c I get that I'm peeing in your picnic basket just by letting you know I'm here. "here" currently being a thread by a trans person, about a trans person commenting on Saint Rowling's intentions regarding Trans persons. I only came to comment on OP's ignorance of their own entitlement but it turns out they have a lot of company. It's like Entitlement 101 in here and the fragility and denial is strong. You might even be a little less angry if you could accept this, but telling angry people to be less angry rarely ends well. Ethnicity is absolutely the main theme of this topic and the one POC that piped up to speak so powerfully from a POC's perspective and address the topic head-on was treated so dismissively that I feel sure she wondered why she bothered.
Is there a reason why are you’re ignoring this POC’s contribution to the thread? There wasn’t just one POC on this thread 🙄
MadBadDaddy · 08/07/2020 20:29

@Kantastic

It might even be funny if a significant number of contributors had actually, honestly understood the serious, pertinent point being made about white privilege and how it blindly perpetuates oppression.

Just again to repeat for the benefit of any latecomers to this thread: this poster is lying and is equating "pregnancy privilege" that they contend women have over males with white privilege.

This is of course a laughably unserious treatment of white privilege, comparing it to a joke privilege that doesn't exist and isn't a privilege. They should of course cancel themselves and hang their head in shame for being a liar who treats white privilege like a joke. They won't though.

I have no opinion on 'pregnancy privilege', whatever that might be, and don't at all see how it relates to white privilege or jokes about flying privilege. To me it just sounds like a distraction from the actual topic and I have no interest in it.

White privilege is about a power dynamic and an unconscious oppression of non-white people. OP wouldn't have started this thread, or been blocked, if they had understood that.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2020 20:30

This was the comment Sappho made that kittens was responding to:

I can't think of any bigger privilege than having the biology to grow a tiny human being and nourishing them after they are born. Women have the choice about whether to become biological mothers or not, trans women don't.

kittens

Birds have the choice about whether to fly at any given moment or not. I don't have that choice, because I'm not a bird, not because of "bird privilege".

Dreeple · 08/07/2020 20:30

From the Indy link:

you guys built the blueprint for this shit

I feel I must point out that blueprints are not “built.”

Kantastic · 08/07/2020 20:32

To me it just sounds like a distraction from the actual topic and I have no interest in it.

That doesn't sound like you, are you feeling okay?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2020 20:34

To me it just sounds like a distraction from the actual topic and I have no interest in it.

Then learn to read and parse and grasp things properly, and stop putting words in people's mouths if you can't be arsed to take in other people's arguments. It's not the first time on this thread.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2020 20:37

Is there a reason why are you’re ignoring this POC’s contribution to the thread? There wasn’t just one POC on this thread

I tried to point out your contribution earlier, and there was another POC as well who stuck up for JKR and the OP, but MBD is ignoring all women MBD doesn't agree with.

FantaOra · 08/07/2020 20:38

Even Bergdorfs white mum was upset at being called racist.

It missed her DNA apparently.

MadBadDaddy · 08/07/2020 20:38

Such impersonal. Very objectivity.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2020 20:40

Are fishcakes cakes?

Fish cakes (with a space, please) identify as cakes, they are a subset of the cake class. The clue is in the name. Fish cakes are cakes.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 08/07/2020 20:43

Even Bergdorfs white mum was upset at being called racist

Er...... still missing the point, did you even read the article?

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 08/07/2020 20:44

but MBD is ignoring all women MBD doesn't agree with

Don't blame her to be honest
Be like fuck this shit lol

Giningit · 08/07/2020 20:46

@BelleHathor It’s so offensive isn’t it? It feels like we’re being told what to think. I’m an educated 40 something woman FFS!

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 08/07/2020 20:46

Oh FFS too many initials, totes read that as MB (Munroe Bergdorf) not MBD (MadBadDaddy)

Arse

Giningit · 08/07/2020 20:49

@TheProdigalKittensReturn Grin

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2020 20:49

Don't blame her to be honest
Be like fuck this shit lol

So given that I was talking about the POC posters that MBD doesn't agree with, that's really your position?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 08/07/2020 20:49

(Starts singing)

"Invisible, you treat me like I'm invisible..."

(Annoys cat, who was trying to sleep)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2020 20:51

A later gig representing women in film at the BFI was canceled due to outrage that the person chosen to represent women in film was male. Oh the irony.

I thought Bergdorf just didn't turn up because of the Twitterstorm?

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 08/07/2020 20:51

So given that I was talking about the POC posters that MBD doesn't agree with, that's really your position?

If you notice my comment before yours I said oh FFS too many initials and I totes read it as MB not MBD.
