I dyed my hair blue last week. It's ok though, I didn't transform into a TRA.

I'll never look at hair dye the same again. Ruined. Ruined I say.

This doesn't surprise me tbh, Mara Wilson has been desperately trying to paint herself as 'super-queer!' for the past few years now.

Maybe to try and stay relevant? I'm not sure, child actors always seem to have so many hang ups as they grow older.

There's a bloke I've long had a bit of a thing for who periodically dyes his hair blue, or part blue and leaves part of it black. If he were to develop a gender identity I'd be very disappointed.

(Seems unlikely, thankfully.)

Child actors often don’t make it into successful adult actors. The number of ones that name money who end up suing their parents/managers etc or in rehab seems quite high too.

Ex child actors - not the people to listen to on anything really... they haven’t really lived ‘in the real world’ let alone had ‘ordinary’ life experiences (and have spent their formative years around luvvies and manipulators). Best to it ignore them.

ALittleBitofVitriol · 01/07/2020 10:31

Lol, if I cut my hair, it grows back.
If I get a mastectomy, those puppies don't grow back.

We can change (read:damage) biology. We can't actually transubstantiate it into another kind of biology.

I think that could be because if you look at child actors they tend to be much shorter than the average child so it is height first then talent.
They aren’t up against the children who are equally or more talented but taller than them.

Once in the adult world it is about being the best against everyone else regardless of height and a lot find they can’t compete

I think it's because her cousin is Ben Shapiro and she has to prove that she is completely opposite to him.

Holy shit, I had no idea! Shock

That would make some sense tbh. I have no love for Shapiro but he definetely comes off as the more 'reality invested' of the two.

SerenityNowwwww · 01/07/2020 20:50

I don’t know who that is.

She's surrounded by people all thinking the same way. Left leaning circles in the States see this as an article of faith. They genuinely think the least breath of demur is akin to KKK support. We're all a product of our cultures, and she's not going to be any different.

She was a child star whose mother died, I think of cancer, while she was that star, and who then found she was washed up in puberty because she wasn't dramatically prettier than the average person, which is what Hollywood requires. She talked about being in auditions with Kristen Stewart, who was (my words, not hers) no prettier as a child, but was strikingly so in her teens, so got all the parts. That's a brutal escalation of the normal teenage experience, played out in front of the world. She's written some kind, insightful pieces and though this is really stupid, she's not exactly going to be challenged on it, is she?

There are enough serious issues around all of this, without trashing someone who was put on global movie screens at an age when most kids can't even tie shoelaces. Damian Barr's hypocrisy and misogyny, and I'm in. But this young woman has just said something a bit silly. That's not hate worthy IMO. And I am so fed up of the febrility of it all, as it is, without pulling in bystanders who just voice the views of their peers.

CloudsCoveredTheSky · 01/07/2020 23:10

@wellbehavedwomen

I don't really get your logic. She's had a rough life(though infinitely more privileged than many) and she's young (not that young though, she must be pushing 40) so she shouldn't be held to account?

I don't see anyone here threatening to kill her or anything, they're just saying what a daft wee lassie she's being so not sure what the issue is really.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 01/07/2020 23:13

What have i missed

Who hates her?

No ones said that surely
