This is what happens when you spend your childhood on film sets instead of in school I guess...

I demand that only clever people get to play Matilda.

BentBastard · 30/06/2020 14:08

Problem is because many fans are also dim they will think from her playing Matilda that she is super bright, due to struggles with fiction and reality, and will assume this is the intelligent book readers view point.

So, it's not a parody and not are any of the responses??

My head hurts. How the fuck can anyone believe such flat out stupidity,? Let alone think they are slam dunking some point but other when they spout it.

That really is a parallel universe they are growing.

I miss the days before Twitter when you could just like an actor and not have to hear their shit opinions all the time. Remember when the news was actual news and not just 'celeb tweets a thing'.

It’s definitely a world away from only seeing what they had for lunch.

Not sure about changing sex, but if I remove my glasses I do turn into a blurry blob like creature. More pufferfish than clown fish these days.

Report
mumwon · 30/06/2020 14:14

@crumpet Ah but eating those fish could mean you can change sex! because that's biology (trying to sound imitation smug with underlying irony!)
Is it an American site out of interest?

It's deliberate I think. She obviously knows there's a difference between a natural blonde and someone who uses bleach to have blonde hair. It's purely a points scoring argument, not one that's got anything behind it, or holds any water at all if you actually engage rather than use it as an excuse to bray at the awful women who aren't just staying quiet like we were told to.

I do like that most of the comments (well, as many as I could be bothered reading) are telling her how craycray that tweet is.

Anyway. Obviously dyeing your hair changes your biology, just like changing your clothes does.

I think people confuse her with Matilda and so assume she is smart. Well, she definitely disabused them of that notion. Hmm

Report
caramac04 · 30/06/2020 14:25

Good grief, does she actually believe her tweet????

Report
agentnully · 30/06/2020 14:26

@Pollyputthepizzaon

I can’t even think of a response Confused

That's no problem. She obviously didn't think in the first place.

Yep, dim.

''I have a family member who works in biology''

Ah well say no more your credentials are clearly that of expert.

Complete nonsense.
Glad I don’t do Twitter.

The idea that minor interventions 'change' our biology in fundamental ways, and thus also our humanity, seems to come from a highly superficial engagement with cyber-feminism.

I am sooo over the third wave, all this stuff that sounds edgy and cool but is actually just nonsense.

I liked her better when she had that massive beehive.

Continuing Mara's analogy...you can dye your hair, but it will grow back in the same color it was before, and the color you added will fade. The only permanent change to your biology is some damage to the hair shaft on the hair that was dyed.

Not sure this is really the argument for transwomen totally being women she had in mind.

It is hard to believe but there is some mind-blowing stupidity out there and, unfortunately, there are people who literally believe TWAW and think that medical science can change people's sex. Which wouldn't be so dangerous if unscrupulous doctors and therapists didn't play on this ignorance.

Christ. And these people walk amongst us. This depth of stupidity is really quite something 😮

Digressing but I hate that Twitter thing where people don't use punctuation. It feels really... self-consciously insouciant, if you know what I mean?

That is terrifying that people actually believe that.

Surely if it changes you’re biology, your hair would permanently be that colour? No. It eventually changes back

If hair dye changes your sex why bother taking hormones or having operations.

Problem solved

Report
MoltenLasagne · 30/06/2020 14:56

This is pretty eye opening. I always thought that people who said TWAW were being kind, but now it occurs to me that there are people who truly believe you can literally change sex, or literally be born in the wrong body.
