Why r/GenderCritical was banned by Reddit

Hi! TRA here! Thought I'd take a quick breather from all the crowing, high-fiving, etc. to throw a lifeline to any actual open-minded critical thinkers wondering why Reddit banned r/gendercritical. Basically, you have 2 options when it comes to what to believe:

  1. It's a true conspiracy: silicon valley, hollywood & the media are in the thrall of the well-funded TransAgenda, the need for woke points, child-groomers, women-haters, MRAs, etc. etc.
  1. r/GenderCritical was hateful - if you want evidence then go to r/GenderCynical which existed to harvest said hatefulness. Read their strictly enforced rules about hate speech, misogyny, anti-feminism, pile-ons, doxxing, etc. (NB: abbreviating "trans exclusionary radical feminist" is not considered hate speech on this subreddit) and then sort their posts by "top" and "all time" and judge for yourself.

The trans men, trans women and non-binary people of Reddit do not hate women and do not tolerate abuse. Have a better day. x

That was a bit of a reverse-psychology troll, admittedly.

That was trolling? Golly gosh, who could've seen through that ingenious piece of subterfuge!?

Maybe check out the talk guidelines...

Ah yes, the strictly enforced rules about hate speech, misogyny, harassment and doxxing that Reddit is so famous for! Rules that lead them to take down a feminist forum while rape fetish sub-reddits remain and flourish.

Only a conspiracy nut would question the impartiality of this decision

AnneOfCreamCables · 30/06/2020 00:19

I missed the thread on here but there were a lot of men tweeting about this before the MN thread appeared.
OP isn't explaining to them. I wonder why. It's almost as though OP deliberately decided to patronise one sex ... but how could that be when OP can't tell the difference between the sexes ? It's a real puzzle.

SetYourselfOnFire · 30/06/2020 00:24

What's the point in telling lies you know are lies and we know are lies, OP?

contactusdeletus · 30/06/2020 00:27

By the way, I'm not sure I'd be sending people to r/gendercynical in your shoes. I've visited both subs to compare, and all my time doing your recommended reading taught me was that TRAs weren't half as rational or sensible as the women of r/gendercritical. The entire sub seemed to exist to grab quotes, present them out of context, and carp about what terrible TERF bitches the women of the GC were. It was very childish. Make your own bogeyman, cry about that bogeyman, find a new bogeyman. Rinse and repeat. It was all very school yard and sad.

The main evidence of how "hateful" the women were seemed to be their insistence on fact-based language. They had a policy of using sex based pronouns. That was it. Eeee-vil.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/06/2020 00:30

I've read the trans subreddits. You can't see the misogyny there for the same reason that fish can't see water.

Quite. Me too.

God, if someone could ever answer that we could all go home.

So true.

tarkovsky · 30/06/2020 00:36

you’d have to be a proper numpty to think reddit deleting r/gendercritical was anything but empty virtue-signalling. they also deleted r/chapotraphouse which was a forum for edgy leftists that unequivocally supported trans activism. so by your logic reddit must also be transphobic? the bottom line is they want to make money in a very polarising socio-political moment in time and they are coming for any forum that is deemed remotely contentious and is constantly reported against(except for r/mensrights cause reasons). the fact that you think this corporation is your ally-for silencing those silly cis women-is hilarious though.

tarkovsky · 30/06/2020 00:39

the “silly cis women” part is supposed to be sarcastic btw cause I know it’s hard to tell nowadays.

There’s a never-ending supply just in case we accidentally think independently.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/06/2020 00:58

At least that kicked off some ok discussion despite the OP - I doubt this will.

VortexofBloggery · 30/06/2020 01:03

So many fab new joiners here and on spinster. Easier to organise with so many fired up women in the one place. Weird business model for reddit and hardly anything to crow about especially on FWR which is reaping the benefits. Justine will be pleased. Own goal? Didn't think it through? Nevermind.

LillianBland · 30/06/2020 01:07

Oh that’s fab. I’m looking forward to all those lovely GC women joining us. The more the merrier, I say. MNHQ will be very pleased to see their numbers of subscribers increase.

Yes I'm struggling to see the downside from a MN perspective.

Equally all these lovely new user threads have been brilliant in demonstrating the issues at hand regarding women's rights and the pernicious attitudes and motivations of hardcore trans activists.

We can't have enough of that!

Well Reddit is full of those things. When they ban 65k feminist women but keep multiple subs celebrating rape, abuse and grooming of children it's difficult to see them as anything else than MRAs on steroids.

Perhaps you could come back here when you have a solid plan to tackle those things. Seeing as you allegedly don't hate women.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 30/06/2020 01:42

People went to war and defeated Nazis. People climb mountains, explore remote forests and discover lost cities. Ordinary people have dug survivors out of earthquakes, protected homes from bushfires and saved their friends from sharks. Some people get up every morning and care for children or old people or go to jobs they hate, but do it anyway.

But some keyboard warriors got an internet forum closed and they’re celebrating their achievements?

Here, let me wave a damp sock at you in case the ticker tape parades are late.
