I saw this on a Twitter thread of Glinner, in which he said I'd better be careful. I'm extremely drunk and might tweet something like "Women menstruate".

I followed a few of the tweets and found this website :

periodpositive.wordpress.com/

This is where apparently media & menstrual product companies now working from and get the language. All about "inclusive" language. The words "woman", "feminine", "female" are taboo.

Grovelling apologies offered; I would have thought this was satire had I seen it anywhere else:

Just fuck off. Women menstruate.

SnuggyBuggy · 21/06/2020 09:01

Us woman can't have anything to ourselves these days.

Ginnyhip46 · 21/06/2020 09:02

If anyone ever tells me off for saying Mother and Daughter I'm going to go full Galadriel when she is offered the One Ring.

The fact that they tagged that post (promising never to mention women) as feminism is both tragic and hysterical.

PumbaasCucumbas · 21/06/2020 09:09

What are they coming for next....

“do these trainers come in women’s sizes?”

Shop assistant (trying to contain the shock that particular offensive word is actually used in public)

“Yes customer of undetermined gender until you tell me your preferred pronouns, the shoes for adult people who typically (but not always) have smaller feet are over there”

PumbaasCucumbas · 21/06/2020 09:11

(Although of course this flippant example doesn’t actually endanger the health of women for lack of clarity, muddying the waters with reproductive health definitely does)

ErrolTheDragon · 21/06/2020 09:12

I wonder if @glinner considered describing himself as a 'non-menstruator'?

Soubriquet · 21/06/2020 09:18

What is so fucking offensive about being a fucking woman these days?!!

I mean seriously.

We can’t even use mothers and daughters?!

Does that mean Mother’s Day will change to menstruators with children’s day?!

Imagine that in a card

LillianBland · 21/06/2020 09:18

I think it’s a very helpful post, because women now know which company to avoid. Go woke, go broke.

BaronessBrighterThanYou · 21/06/2020 09:25

A flow chart for periods?

It's a (rubbish) joke surely?

nauticant · 21/06/2020 09:27

Qollocks.

Winesalot · 21/06/2020 09:28

That link to rubycups is ridiculous. It really shows confused logic. For a start, they allow the conflation of sex and gender. Now they have to twist their thinking to reflect this ill conceived stance of allowing people to deny that biology that we are told isn’t happening. The example message they used as an explanation was someone who thinks that they are more male than female. Therefore they are following the sex on a spectrum theory based the proven sex is binary facts.

This language really needs to be sorted. And I think that the expectation of dehumanizing the majority of the sex to be inclusive needs to be viewed that there may well be a larger section of the population being excluded due to real language barriers. What 12 year old knows they are menstruators?

Lamahaha · 21/06/2020 09:29

“The automatic association between menstruation and women that almost everybody makes seems impossible to break. Whenever an ad comes up for a menstrual product, it shows young women.”

Jesus truly wept.

Soubriquet · 21/06/2020 09:33

If they start showing trans men and saying their product is for men too, i will not be impressed

Luckily I already use reusables and not disposables, but when dd is old enough to buy some, I would like to point her in the direction of ones who recognise and support WOMEN

TheSingingKettle49 · 21/06/2020 09:36

So many questions....

Why are they trying to erase women?

If you identify as a man why would you even take part in a survey about periods anyway?

If you’re taking part in a survey about periods and you have a period then you are a woman, you know you’re a woman, you’re just not comfortable being a woman, so why do you think everyone else should change their language to make you more comfortable rather than you accepting the facts?

How do you think it makes women who can’t menstruate for medical reasons seeing themselves separated from ‘normal’ (sorry, not the best way to phrase it I’m sure) women?

ErrolTheDragon · 21/06/2020 09:37

Does that mean Mother’s Day will change to menstruators with children’s day?!

Remind your kids, they need to amend their cards today to 'Happy non-menstruating parents' day'
...nope... that won't do, it might not be inclusive of Freddie the birth certificate law suit person. Damn. OTOH, it would mean both DH and I would be entitled to a lie in nowadays....We need to get this one sorted out urgently don't we?

FlamingoAndJohn · 21/06/2020 09:38

Some of the language on the chart I’m not so bothered by to be honest.
But you can fuck of with replacing Women with People. And with menstruator and non menstruator.

FlamingoAndJohn · 21/06/2020 09:40

Whenever an ad comes up for a menstrual product, it shows young women

I demand that adverts for Lynx, viagra and Gillette start using women.

SarahTancredi · 21/06/2020 09:43

Oh ffs I just bought a ruby cup because I loved the fact that they donate one to girls in Kenya to help keep them in school.

How are cups not even safe now. Ffs

PumbaasCucumbas · 21/06/2020 09:45

....elderly gentlemen on the clear blue advert, dogs advertising cat litter and babies advertising car insurance

Soubriquet · 21/06/2020 09:47

But how do you know those elderly men don’t identify with being a young woman?

I mean...god could you be any more ageist/sexist

HmmGrin

dancinfeet · 21/06/2020 09:52

how long before we have to refer to everyone as those who menstruate, and those who ejaculate? Imagine that on a christmas card (!)

MrsWednesdayteatime · 21/06/2020 09:53

Why isn't there a massive push to get sanitary product bins /dispensers into ALL men's toilets ... You'know if men menstruate too? Why aren't men asked to give up space and resources to include people who identify as transmen

And why didn't any headlines talk about Covid19 effecting older people with testicles? Why was the exclusionary word "man" used when not all people who identify as men will have the male biology that seems to put them at higher risk?

Lamahaha · 21/06/2020 09:56

@FlamingoAndJohn

Yes, some of it is OK, such as "starting puberty" and "menstrual products".

But the very premise is so, so dishonest. Why on earth should we -- all of us, not just women - change our correct language just for the hurt feelings of the tiniest minority?

I don't hear blind people objecting to the words "see" or "sight" or throwing tantrums when we use phrases like "use your eyes" or "shouda gone to Specsavers".

There is more I'd say about the inability to deal with objective reality and weaponising hurt feelings but it would get me banned. Does nobody know that it's possible to get over hurt feelings and even use them as a stepping stone for inner growth?
I think I am a much stronger person BECAUSE of the racism I had to deal with in my youth. I never went crying to the media.

You’ll never have to refer to men as “people who ejaculate“ because it is males and just a handful of confused females who are dictating how each sex is referred to. They wouldn’t dare tell men how to refer to themselves.
